FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
In terms of tutoring (either ESL or English composition), I usually charge about $30 per hour. As for editing work, that would have to be discussed by the employer, as projects vary in complexity and length of time.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Absolutely. There is always more to learn, so keeping your mind fit and continuing to turn over new stones is very important. Even when I am not enrolled in a class, I am always looking things up that I am unsure of and reading up on editing and tutoring techniques and general linguistics. If not to improve my understanding and capability, I do it for fun.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
For as long as I can recall, language and writing have always been my strongest suits as well as my favorite subjects in school. It was when I entered college that I decided to make it a career, because it was something that never felt laborious or unpleasant. I loved learning about language for the sake of it, and having studied it for so long, I decided it made complete sense to make it a lifelong endeavor.
