Esme did an excellent job grooming my two cats in my home! She was nothing but kind and caring of my petrified, very anxious cats. She somehow put them at ease and it was so great to see the care and the pride she puts in her work! She did an amazing job with them! Also, She was very responsive and reliable and kept me posted ever since the moment I decided to schedule with her! We will definitely be calling her to return again!!! Thank God we found her!!! My Persian Kitties are now mat-free and look so happy with their new haircuts! Thank you, Esme!!!😻😻

Jamie did a great job working with my 9 month old Shih Tzu. She had numerous mattes so I opted to have her shaved down for this time. She behaved beautifully under Jamie's guidance. There are still to significant mattes, one under each of her ears that concern me, but we'll get those taken care of. Jamie was prompt, very informative with questions I asked, cleaned up well after himself. All I had to do was sit back and watch. Thank you Jamie for a great experience of in home pet grooming. AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING... my poor old dog had to be cut super short due to being matted in places we could not even tell. After it was all said and done... I have a very happy old dog that can finally be comfortable and the kids also love his cut. This is a groomer that takes his time, works with the pet to put them at ease and ensures everyone is happy. GREAT GREAT job!!!!

My husband, Ray and I rescued our five year old Bichon Frise, Phoebe and she immediately became very attached to me. We struggled with her skin conditions and food allergies. But she was most troubled when anyone would come near us or our house, barking (screaming) hysterically and nothing we could do would break her focus on the perceived danger, even picking her up and taking her to a back room of the house where she would continue barking loudly. She also snapped at people, especially children, who would move toward her to touch her. We were afraid to take her into situations where other people were gathered, such as our group camping outings. In desperation, we contacted Sam Ivy K9 Consultants, and our trainer, Enzo, began teaching us how to teach Phoebe. He was very patient with us, and within two visits, Phoebe stopped her frantic barking on our "STOP" command! Enzo continued to teach us how to give her the necessary commands that every dog should know: Sit, Stay, Down, Come ect. He also addressed her occasional night-time peeing in the house (she is very afraid of the dark so one of us has to go outside with her at night). Our fluffy Phoebe is so much better behaved now and we are very thankful that her training has made her a better, loving companion.

She did an excellent job! I needed a dog sitter for a week while I was out of town getting married. She stayed at my home to care for my four dogs and two cats. They were very well taken care of and were all in good health when I came back. She sent me texts and photos multiple times a day and let me know about everything going on. I highly recommend her services!

Tammy was great! My dog is a very senior dog and has many issues which is why I have not taken her to the groomer for so long like I used to and she was great with my grumpy old lady. She addressed her health issues prior to arrival and followed up after. Now my little old lady looks like a little teddy bear again! She is adorable an think she even feels better!

Angeldogs offers private lessons where we come to your home. Each lesson lasts at least one hour, but have been known to last two or three. From basic obedience to behavior problems, all breeds, ages, and issues are handled with positive yet assertive leadership skills. Angeldogs serves all of Sarasota County, Englewood is included of course. As a founding member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (A.P.D.T.) all of the lessons are based on positive reinforcement training. No use of choke chains nor prong collars. We have over 27 years of experience in behavior modification and have found this to be the most effective, fun, and lasting way to train. Our main concentration is in training you and every one who handles the dog on a regular basis. That way every one may be consistent in doing the same thing, the same way, so your canine family member will learn, even when the trainer is not around. I give a 10% discount for millitary and family.

About

Promise Pet Care offers pet sitting in your home. Are you going on a vacation? Are you working a lot of hours and can't get home in time to let Fido out? Are you sick or unable to walk your dog as it needs? Are you too busy to take your pet to the groomers, vets, etc.? Let your pets feel safe in their own environment. In-home pet sitting reduces stress and chance for illness for your pets. It also gives you some home security while you're away. Hello. My name is Janet, and I am a professional pet sitter who is bonded, insured, and certified through Pet Sitters International and Pet First Aid. My passion for animals is what motivated me to start my own pet sitting business. I take care of your pets in your own home and care for them as if they're my own. Not only do I feed, water and clean litter boxes, but I also give lots of TLC and playtime with them. I care for most domestic animals, including reptiles and birds. Also, I provide minor home security if desired. That would include opening/closing blinds, alternating lights, picking up mail and newspapers (or anything not previously being held), watering plants and other minimal home duties. Check out my credentials, memberships and referrals! I would love to work for you. I provide trusted pet sitting (and dog walking) at your home.

About

I have 15 years of experience! I'm certified, and my passion for animals has gotten me where I'm at today. There is nothing like making a dog feel wonderful after a good old scrub and haircut!

About

For about a year, I've worked in a veterinary clinic as assistant for doctors and boarding kennel experts. Under their wing, I've learned a lot about proper animal care. I have walked hundreds of dogs, with special needs, and lively as 1 year old Jack Russell. I have followed a regimen with feeding schedules for 20 dogs/cats at a time. I'm fairly experienced with handling animals, including cats, dogs, ferrets and rabbits. I've owned multiple dogs and a few ferrets. As far as cats, I recently fell in love with them about 2 years ago when I met my fiancee and her four family cats. I understand that cats take longer to adjust to a new person in their lives, but I'm willing to work with them. I recently graduated with my AA degree, and I will be attending USF for my bachelor's degree. I am 21 years old, responsible, friendly, and polite. I am very patient and an animal lover. I will happily provide a list of references upon request.

What I do to make my business great is to get along with my dogs and have fun time with them, like running with them, taking them outside a lot, playing around with them, and keeping them company.

Well, I love to walk your dog so he or she doesn't do any boo-boos in your house. Trust me; I know about that cause I have two of them.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

How much does it cost to groom a dog?

Dog grooming costs depend on the service your pet requires. Nationally, the average price for dog grooming ranges from $40 to $100, varying by location. Not surprisingly, dog grooming on New York’s Upper East Side costs nearly double what it costs in a small town in Montana. Dog groomers typically handle every aspect of your dog’s beauty and hygiene, from tooth brushing to hairstyling. One potential way to save is to have your dog groomed at your doggy daycare — sometimes they offer discounts on dog grooming prices for clients. Here are some examples of average dog grooming costs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please note these prices would include transportation fees for picking up and dropping off your dog to your home:

  • Nails: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Toothbrushing: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Tooth scraping (removal of plaque from teeth to prevent infection), with anesthesia: $600
  • Tooth scraping, without anesthesia: $400.
  • Wash and dry: $60
  • Ears: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Grooming package: $130 — includes wash, nails, teeth, ears, gland expression and haircut

How much do you tip the dog groomer?

Do you have a dog that you get groomed regularly? If you do, you’ve probably wondered how much — or even if — you’re supposed to tip your dog groomer. Treat your dog groomer as you would your own hair stylist. A 15 percent to 20 percent tip is an appropriate amount to show your appreciation for a dog grooming job well done. If your dog didn’t get clean or their nails didn’t get properly clipped, then you certainly don’t have to tip. But if you’re satisfied with the service, consider the tip part of the standard dog grooming price, and just plan it into your dog care budget so you’ll have a happy groomer and a well-groomed dog. Here are a few examples of when you should tip extra:

  • Your dog bit the groomer! Not good. A big tip will help.
  • Your pooch barked like a wild beast or wrestled the groomer the entire time.
  • Your dog’s hair was extra gross and dirty — think dog poo or major mud matted in their hindquarters.
  • Your senior or disabled dog can’t stand on their own and needs extra care and support.
