Kathy was delightful to work with. I wanted to have family pictures done for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. Between 2 small children and 1 very mobility limited senior, we were a challenging group to work with. Kathy was patient, funny, approachable. She let me direct traffic, even when it involved me rolling on the floor to get the kids to look a certain way she just let it happen naturally. While most of the pics were posed, you can clearly see the natural joy in the moments. I highly recommend Kathy for her professionalism, her timely turnaround of the project, and for the high quality of her work.

I recently had a wedding with 14 people for hair services by Tiara Styles Beauty. It was a great, positive experience! She and her partner did a wonderful job, helping to create hair styles the individuals had in mind and were very creative when individuals gave them free range. They worked well together, entertaining everyone the whole time, they arrived on time and brought music! I, the bride, had a beautiful updo and can attest to quality work! My pictures are not out yet, but I will try to post once I receive them! Thank you!

I hired Nuricproductions for my wedding Nov 12th 2016, and I am so pleased and impressed at the amazing job you did! The DJ was nice and dressed to impress, did an excellent job of getting everyone up and dancing or relaxed when needed and knows how to feel the room. We weren't very specific on our song choices for most of the evening... But it was perfect!! Everyone complimented me for choosing a good DJ. I'm very impressed, they went way above and beyond with lighting and photo booth! I will definitely hire you again, and have been referring people to Nuricproductions. Thank you so much!!

Stephanie is amazing to work with! The first time I worked with Stephanie was several years back taking personal pictures and also of my dog. Working with pets is not easy but she captured many awesome shots of my Cam. So it was a natural choice to use Stephanie as my wedding photographer. We had Stephanie for our engagement pictures, my bridal shower, and then our wedding pictures. Stephanie takes amazing pictures, very professional, works with you and the space you're in to get the right shots. Stephanie is very quick to turn the pictures around for you to review, I've never had to wait to see when the pictures would be ready because she would send it to me before I even ask for it. Thanks Stephanie!

Eddie was the photographers at my wedding in Sarasota, FL. He did an excellent job. He took some great pre-wedding photos with the ladies getting ready and then took some pictures of the guys. During the ceremony, I did not even notice him. He got some very creative shots. After the wedding, we had some family photos taken. He had a great eye for the best location for photos with the background and the lighting, as the sun was starting to set. He got both beautiful posed shots and some really great candid shots. He was able to work well with my nieces that are 1 and 3 years old. I couldn't be happier with Robert and Eddie's work. I will cherish these photos forever. Here are two of my favorites!

Scott was a pleasure to work with from the moment I first reached out to him to inquire about his background and experience. Although Scott is fairly new to wedding photography, you would never know it. He, along with his partner that day, Allen, did an amazing job shooting our wedding. They split up and went to the grooms location to capture the guys getting ready while Allen got great pictures of me and the rest of the bridal party. Scott then drove my groom to my location so we could squeeze in a quick first look (which I'm so glad we did)! Scott then took my groom to the church in his car while Allen road with us in the limo and got some great pics! I got so many compliments from family and friends about how great my photographers were and my pictures are proof of that! Not only is Scott and his team talented and passionate about what they do, they were an absolute pleasure to work with and we genuinely enjoyed having them there on our special day. I highly recommend slomback photography and plan to use them again in the future for the next milestone in our lives. Thank you again Scott & Allen

Earl is the ultimate professional. His work is amazing. We used him for our engagement photos. Since our wedding was a destination wedding we were not able to use Earl for our wedding photos 😂. I was unhappy with the quality of pictures for wedding photographer and felt helpless. I mentioned my Selina to Earl graciously agreed to edit my wedding photos 🙏🏾. His work is beyond quality and he connected with my husband and I and that made us feel at ease and produced a more fun and relaxed shoot.

Hiring Real Deal Photography/Peter Obetz was the best decision we ever made for our wedding. They were professional, creative, organized, and best of all, we were laughing and joking as though we had hired friends of ours to photograph our wedding. They did an amazing job capturing our special day and even recreated scenes from my parents' wedding photography that were spot on!! Real Deal and Peter Obetz did such a beautiful job and it was such a pleasure to work with them that we have hired them again for our family photos!

Ron was great to work with. He was extremely friendly, professional, and provided a great finished product in a very short amount of time. I asked Ron to help me put together a full length video from a bunch of very short video clips of my wedding. The original videographer for the wedding took a bunch of quick shots, and only provided us with a brief highlight video and the raw footage that was unfortunately hundreds of somewhat incomprehensible clips. I reached out to Ron to see if he could put all of the clips together so that my wife and I would have a wedding video that showed everything from beginning to end. Ron did an excellent job putting everything together beautifully, even adding some classical music at the beginning and the end. Ron kept me informed and updated throughout the process, and made sure to ask me important questions so that he could provide me with an end product that I would be happy with.

Colleen was the photographer for our wedding. We had so much fun working with her. She was so friendly and nice and she felt like an immediate friend. She had such a fun and light-hearted attitude and caught some of the greatest moments of our wedding on camera. Afterwards, she was quick to share the pictures with us and she put together a beautiful album. We have some of the pictures hanging in our house and often get compliments on what a "great shot" it is! We were so happy that we chose her!

Michelle and Bill were amazing. They did the photography for our wedding in March on a dinner boat. They were great to work with and the pictures were better than we could have hoped for. Michelle was quick to respond to messages and communicated with us. I would recommend them to friends and family and will definitely use them again.

I liked Jill's initial ideas, and she kept making tweaks until the logo design for my consulting company was perfect. I felt like she fully understood my needs and delivered exactly what I was hoping to get. While I'm in Ohio and she's in Arkansas, I felt like we almost knew one another, as her communications were friendly, professional, and prompt. I liked Jill's work so much that I also hired her to design a logo for our upcoming wedding. Two of the designs were so good that we decided to purchase them both! Hire Jill without reservation. I am sure I will be asking her for help on a project again soon, and will refer her to others without hesitation.

DJ PeeDee did an absolutely amazing job for our Son, and his Bride's wedding. I would recommend him highly to anyone wanting to have a DJ that handles everything so smoothly! He made their special day so fun and memorable for all. He met with us months ahead of time, stayed in close contact, did everything requested, and with a wonderful personality. I can't give him enough praise for a job well done!

There is nothing NOT to like about Les. He was the best value I found for our wedding, but that did not deter from the service he provided. He worked with us to build a playlist and delivered. He not only plays what you want, but sings, interacts with you crowd and will even provide Karaoke if you want. Everyone loved him. Thanks for making our special day even more so Les.

I recently got married and Bob was an amazing photographer from begginin to end. He got there early and took pictures of the ceremony and reception. Pictures quality was amazing and he was easy to talk to and always following me around. Friendly, punctual and photos were ready in less than a week. And also, he quoted us a perfect price right on my budget which I had a hard time finding before. Thank you Bob, for have being part of our wedding... without you, we wouldn't have had so beautiful pictures of the wedding! All the best to you! 😊

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
