He was the first to reply to my request for furniture assembly job. This was within 30 minutes of my post. He was professional on the phone and in my home. He was available for my job quickly and showed up on time. Assembly of the Table Tennis table was done correctly and in a timely manner. Great care was taken by Manny in setting up the table without damaging it or other furniture and flooring nearby. I encourage you Manny for furniture and sport equipment. I would use him again and trust that he would do the job efficiently, correctly and professionally.

I used Custom Flooring and Trim LLC for my entire house Bamboo Flooring installation. The house had carpet and titles. Curtis, the owner, had to rip off the carpet and demolish the titles, he then sand down the floor and resurface the concrete foundation floor to make the floor level. It was a lot of work to prepare the floor in order to get a completely even floor to install the Bamboo flooring. I am a perfectionist, and want everything in perfect condition. After watching how Curtis prepare and install the flooring, I would say Curtis is a perfectionist. The floor came out stunningly beautiful and flawless. After more than 2 years since Curtis installed the flooring, it is still in perfect condition. I am so happy with the flooring work Curtis did. Thumbtack sent me 5 carpenters upon my request. I interviewed all of them and picked Curtis. I am very happy with my choice. Curtis has the best workmanship in town, and he charges most reasonable price for his work. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend Curtis - Custom Flooring and Trim LLC.

Sladan, Mike and Dan were professional, proficient, personable and take great pride in their work. They did a fantastic job replacing carpet with laminate flooring in our family room and hall at our rental home. They also pressure washed the driveway, front porch, sidewalk, screened back porch and pool deck. We were so impressed with the outcome that we hired them to pressure wash at our residence. We highly recommend them!

I hired Franklin to replace over 2000 sq ft of carpeting in one of my properties. He came right out to offer a quote and had the carpet ordered and installed in under a week. He also did some vinyl flooring for me. It was much less expensive than ordering from Home Depot or Empire and he was such a pleasure to work with. I will use him again in the future. Well done!

A&G tiled master bedroom with wood look tile and family room with brick like tiles in herringbone pattern. Installers were professional, on time and worked diligently to finish job timely. The price was very reasonable and the finished product was excellent. I will definitely hire for future jobs. Also, installed crown molding in two rooms that looks amazing.

I recently closed on a new home and planned multiple projects before moving. Carlos responded immediately with his quote and included comments of what he would provide and work to be performed.. What do you look for when you have someone come into your home to do work? Show up as scheduled, prep the work area to protect the it, perform the work without impacting any other area of the home, complete the job as agreed, clean up afterward and leave the area as good as it was before arriving. This is exactly what Carlos did. A positive and professional experience from start to finish! Definitely 5 stars. I highly recommend Building Dreams Tile and Flooring!

Pierre is very nice. We hired them to do our painting inside entire house as well as installing bamboo flooring upstairs in our home. Painting took longer than time quoted as it seems they were overbooked or over committed on projects so they came a couple days in a row then didn't come back for 4 days. Flooring was done in time, due to us decreasing the scope of the project. Good work but make sure you have your vision and design in mind.

This is a little bit long but I need to tell how we came to get C&B flooring: First, I want to thank C&B Flooring for coming to our rescue!! With tile purchased, furniture moved and schedules cleared, we were stood up by another flooring company who decided at the last minute that they didn't want to do the job! I should have known something wasn't right when the owner, some guy named Raymond, came to give an estimate and after agreeing to do the job the following week, never sent a contract or messages. I sent a message asking for the contract to start and was told I "could write up a contract myself and he would sign it when he arrived to do the job." Then he just never showed up nor answered my phone calls. In a panic with Thanksgiving less than a week away, my daughter reached out to C&B Flooring. Feeling sorry for our dilemma, Gustavo came late that same evening to give us a quote. He promised to have it completed by Wednesday. I was skeptical but what else could I do with our furniture already cleared from 2 rooms and Thanksgiving fast approaching? He also agreed to match the original company's price. Well, we had 3 rooms of tile installed by Gustavo and his team. They worked consistently and quickly to get things done, even though they had to squeeze us in between another job they already had. True to his word, Gustavo and his guys were done by 7:00 pm Wednesday! They even helped to move back large pieces of furniture for us. I can't thank them enough for not only taking on our last minute job, but most importantly, for doing a great job and making our floors look beautiful!!

Pleasantly surprised and very pleased with the work completed so far and it’s near completion! After getting several estimates, I chose Southern Floors and Pavers to install approx. 1900 sq ft of laminate flooring that included tile removal. They work well as a team; very professional, ethical, courteous, sensitive to customer preferences, attentive to details and quality workmanship with in-depth experience in multiple trades. They clean up the work area daily and conduct daily walk throughs with me to address any needs and explain next steps. Pricing is reasonable and fair and they are prompt in arriving and sticking to their proposed schedule. I’m so pleased that I plan to hire them for several other projects...shower remodel, several door installations and fire pit installation. You won’t be disappointed with this company!

Great job. Compliments from every single person who walks in and sees your work. You should be very proud of yourself and your company. Not to many of them out there with such professionalism and integrity anymore. We will most certainly be recommending you to anyone who inquires about flooring. Schnaider saved a new bamboo floor that had been nearly destroyed by another contractor, and did it for 25% less the other guy wanted! Great service and Great price! Thank Schnaider

From the very beginning of this project John was great. He came out, measured for the flooring & baseboards. He suggested a flooring product when my original flooring selection fell through. John worked with my schedule, was very patient, honest, friendly, answered all of my questions and cleaned up daily. He installed my new flooring and new baseboards and everything looks fantastic, I could not be happier. He even helped me move the furniture back in place.

Joe the owner, refinished our oak floors in a home that was built in the 50's. He made the floors look like they were just installed. The floor is beautiful. I will definitely use him again for any further flooring needs. I highly recommend him to anyone who is considering having their floors refinished. Very professional and trustworthy.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
