Tony helped me with the backsplash tiling in my kitchen yesterday since I did not want to do this alone and did not have all the tools. After having had a bad experience with another contractor before, it was a fresh breath of air to meet Tony and work with him. He is punctual, courteous, super friendly and fun to have around. His work ethics are something you don't see much around anymore: he genuinely cares about his customers and what they need and then delivers. And he is honest to tell you when he can't do something. I have hired Tony to come back next week and do some more work and will recommend him to my neighbor as well. Great guy to have do your projects and his prices are reasonable for any budget.

Jorge was an absolute pleasure to work with. He responded very quickly. He had the quote done the same day that I posted the job on Thumbtack and the roof was fixed the next morning. The other larger roofing company that gave me my first quote wanted to tear up a huge part of my roof for one small leak and charge me an astronomical amount of money. It seemed like overkill to me. Jorge, who has worked with tile roofs for years, said the leak could be fixed with only opening up a very small portion of the roof and his price was a fraction of what the large roofing company wanted to charge. Also, Jorge provided a year warranty. The other company only offered a 90 day warranty.

We had a great experience using John. We hired him to make some repairs to areas leaking in our bathroom. He regrouted and sealed our shower and tub, and even replaced a damaged tile. He also completed some drywall repairs to our damaged kitchen ceiling which was leaking from the damaged areas in the bathroom. He was quick and very flexible with our schedules ,and even came back a couple of extra days to make sure the job was completed properly. He also did some extra work for us when asked at a reasonable price. We will definitely be calling him again for future handyman services needed around the house.

Nelson sent an installer to install 6x24 wood look porcelain tile in my master bedroom and enclosed porch along with new baseboard and crown molding. The installer was very punctual and professional and did a fantastic job of laying the tile on a very uneven concrete floor. He did a beautiful job and in the end both floors are incredibly flat with no "toe kickers". I will definitely be contacting Nelson for other jobs I need done around the house. Thank you Nelson and Estenio! Oh yeah, and the best part is, the pricing was very reasonable!

Carlos and Allen were great to work with, even though we had a language barrier- Carlos made it work. The only reason I did not give 5-stars is because they didn't bring a shop vac, therefore the dust was everywhere in the house from the tile removal, and there were a few carpet stains as a result of pieces of ceramic tile getting grounded into the carpet. Overall, lovely people and good work.

Julio exceeded our expectations in every way! When we requested an estimate he asked for some pictures to better understand the complexity of the job; I was pleased with the reasonable estimate that we received. Julio kept in contact with us from the day we hired him until the day of installation, even letting us know that he was on his way that morning. His attention to detail is superb. Julio does meticulous work; we are extremely pleased with our stone kitchen backsplash installation. I would highly recommend Julio Barizon for your tile installation needs!

We hired Jorge to install Hardwood floors, travertine floors, remove a built-in entertainmemt center, tile a shower and apply stone venneer to a fireplace. Everything came out really nice but I'll have to say my favorite were the wood floors. Outstanding job on the floors. We came across a few challenges with materials and he was able to work his magic so everything would be to our liking. They were always on time and very respectful. The only reason why I don't give them 5 stars is because the promised delivery time was delayed a few days causing some inconvenience. I would hire them again and recommend their services to friends and family.

They were not the cheapest bid but I felt they were very honest in their assessment and experienced when answering my questions. I had concerns that several tiles in my bathroom needed to be replaced. I got estimates from other companies and Restar was the only one who stated based on their experience that there was likely mold or rotten wood behind the tile. They included the repair in their quote and they were right. Once the tile was down I could see the water damage for myself. Had I gone with another " cheaper" company I would have had unexpected expenses that I was not planning on. With Restar I was able to plan in advance and make decisions ( material selections) according to my budget and not go over based on their recommendations. Additionally the men who came to my house to do the work were very professional and hard working. They did not consider the job complete until I was 100% satisfied with the work. I would use Restar again for my house repairs. They arrived on time and remained in contact with me to schedule what was a several day long full bathroom renovation.

Sylvester just finished our popcorn removal and painting of our entire house and of remodeling of our bathroom counters and cabinets, I am so happy with the results, I felt compelled to write a review. A lot of times, people only write reviews for bad service or work that was poorly done, so I thought I'd take the time to recognize some excellent work. I was beyond impressed with Sylvester. After we had a lot of trouble with another contractor doing our kitchen counters and cabinets, we knew we had to find someone different for our bathrooms and other things we needed done. We had at least 4 different contractors come over to check out the job and give us quotes. Sylvester actually came in at the best price. On top of that, he really worked with us to get it within our budget. With a baby on the way and limited funds, his flexibility was MUCH appreciated. Not one of the other contractors was willing to work with us in that way. I would definitely hire Sylvester again, He was such a pleasure to work with. He's just a great guy all around and his work was way better than we could have hoped for. I'd say we got more than expected for the money we paid.

One of the most honest contractors/handymen I have ever dealt with. Was very transparent over his charges and was a pleasure to deal with. The work involved matching travertine tiles to create two wide long mid-steps down to family room which originally had an 8 inch drop down which was too high. Also removed old laundry room sink and replaced with a new one. Repaired some pool enclosure doors and the front door which was cracked at the bottom.

Rafeek is amazing. He did a wonderful job. If you are looking for assembly line work - this is not the place. Rafeek is truly an artist/designer - he is meticulous in the work he does. He installed a lovely mosaic backsplash for me with a tile and compartment boarder - the cuts are perfectly matched. He even accompanied me to the store to ensure I had exactly what would be needed. He was very neat and incredibly knowledgeable. I love my kitchen. If you have the time to allow for an exemplary job that cannot be topped,my recommendation could not be higher for this gentleman. He will take his time to ensure the work is excellent and nothing less. You get the best of both worlds, a designer and a contractor.

I had a great experience with Jeff and his team and will use them again. They removed a wall and 1100sf of tile flooring, leveled the concrete floor and installed LVP flooring. They also replaced an exterior door and installed new baseboard, a new toilet and a new microwave.

We hired him to remove wooden floors, put down ceramic tile and repaint the living room as well. He did an outstanding job. He finished within the time frame that he said he would and on top of that his prices were beyond reasonable. We were so impressed and satisfied by his work that we hired him to remodel the bathroom as well. This by far was the greatest decision we made. You won't get prices like his anywhere & the quality of his work is impecable. He has a lot of patience and even makes recommendations and gives you options based on his experience. We will definitely be hiring him for some more projects!

Finding a good, reliable, courteous and professional contractor these days is very hard to find. Lucky for us, Felix was available and fit all of these. So far, every person who has walked into our house since Felix laid down the tile, has raved about it. You'll be glad you hired him!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

    • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
      • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
    • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
