Corey was very thorough and did a great job. He was even was early for our appointment. In addition, unlike a lot of other maintenance type people, he made sure to clean up after himself and went above and beyond to make sure the job was completed to perfection and I had what I needed to provide to my property management company. He was very friendly and definitely went beyond my expectations. Note to Management Responding to Bad Reviews: As someone who provides social media marking for local businesses, I have to point out that it really isn't professional to be arguing with or correcting your customers on a public forum, or even at all. This really looks bad on your business and makes it look like you can't handle a bad review. I understand some customers are little bit more difficult to work for but their opinions still matter and responding in a kind matter will serve you better in the end. If I saw this behavior prior to my cleaning I may have passed up on using your services.

Manny completed several repairs around our home including re-caulking our shower, repairing the weather stripping around two exterior doors and other misc. small projects. He did a great job for a very fair price. We will definitely hire him the next time we need a handyman!

KATHY AND ROBERT ARE THE MOST HONEST OWNERS OF A HOME IMPROVEMENT COMPANY WE HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. FROM OUR INITIAL CONTACT WITH THEM IT HAS TRULY BEEN A WONDERFUL RELATIONSHIP. WE OPERATE A CHRISTIAN SCHOOL AND DAY CARE AND OUR PUMP AND WATER SYSTEM BROKE JUST BEFORE RECEIVING THE CHILDREN FOR DAILY CARE. THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT THREATENED TO CLOSE US DOWN UNTIL WE HAD THE WATER SYSTEM CORRECTED. ROBERT ARRANGED TO HAVE POTABLE WATER TANKS INSTALLED AND WITH AN ARRANGEMENT WITH THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD THEM DELIVER CLEAN DRINKING WATER TO OUR SCHOOL. THEIR FAITH IN GOD IS SO STRONG AND THEY STOOD UP FOR OUR RIGHTS AND WERE FEARLESS. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH.

I scheduled an appointment with 4 Sons Restoration for them to clean and seal about 500 square feet of tile floors of the house I just purchased. I couldn't believe how much better the floors looked! My grout went from black to a light grey. Mike was a very nice man and completed this job alone within an hour and a half. He was very personable as we swapped life stories while he cleaned the floors and I painted a room. I genuinely enjoyed my experience with this company and will be hiring them in the future to clean my back patio Thank you so much!

Ariel came in and fixed some broken drywall from water damage, new tile flooring in my living and dining room, and he also opened up and knocked out a wall in my kitchen. All of the work he does is Fabulous. He is very thorough. He came to my house and gave me a free quote and said the work would take two days to complete. He completed all of the work and stayed within budget and time he quoted. I would recommend him to anyone needing some house repairs!

I posted on thumbtack for a job that needed immediate attention at a local retail store. Paul and I had a nice conversation on the phone and I knew he was the man for the job. He promptly went over to the store, introduced himself to the manager on duty, and completed the job for us. The manager of the store was extremely happy with his professionalism, attention to detail, and the quality of his work. I highly recommend Paul for your next home project or commercial service call. Awesome! Gordon was prompt, very professional and quite humorous. He took care of business and got the job done despite the fact that he had to result to a back up plan to repair my kitchen lightning system. Gordon is definitely on my list for any future work.

Lou is an amazing handyman. He is very professional, he came in and assessed the project and provided me with a quote, even though he encountered a lot of issues due to the previous contractors work he still maintained his original assessment and completed the project with professionalism. I will be contacting him again for my future projects for sure and i would advise the next client to do the same.

I found Promaster Painting on the internet through thumbtack and hired Juan and his team to come out and paint our entire exterior of the house after reviewing 3 other companies. I picked Juan for his responsiveness and customer service, in fact, he was the only company that came out on site to estimate. They offer exceptional service at an extremely reasonable cost. It was a great experience and we were very pleased with their work! You can't find a painting company more trustworthy. Takes the time to explain and document everything for you and consistently kept me informed of every step. You will find how fortunate you are to find Promaster Painting to service all your painting needs! Their work is high quality at an extremely fair price. They're so good, I am hesitant to share them with everyone else. I own multiple Florida rental homes and will call Juan on all my painting needs now.

We had a remodeling job for my home and had 5 contractors bid the project. Sylvester at Blair Millenium Construction had, without a doubt, the best priced and most detailed bid we received and therefor he was hired.   He provided a detailed schedule and the only time we ran over on the schedule was when I had decided to change something. Even with that change, he finished in no time. I was extremely happy with his work and the final product. If I have another project Sylvester will definitely be our first call.

Our experience with Mainstream Maintenance Services was absolutely wonderful. Their team of professionals listened to what was required, made suggestions if there were any questions that were outstanding and offered other services beyond what we had originally requested. They were very responsive to our timeframes and worked extra long hours to complete the project in our requested timeframe. Mainstream Maintenance Services is a very professional team with skills in many different areas. We utilized their services for several different projects. We intend to continue using them for future projects as well. We feel strongly that the value of their services was very acceptable and would highly recommend them for other folks requiring home project skills. ALERT: To all present and future home owners, your first and only call should be to Mainstream Maintenance Services. They have contacts in all areas and have already provided us with not only the original service we requested but several other services as well. We highly recommend that you utilize Mainstream Maintenace Services.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

How do you choose a commercial general contractor?

A commercial contractor provides similar services as a residential general contractor but specializes in working with large-scale projects for businesses, schools, nonprofits, governments and development firms. When researching commercial general contractors, review their portfolio of work and confirm they have ample experience working in the area you need. For example, if you are building a small strip mall, ask if the contractors have experience successfully incorporating all the needed elements such as a parking lot, meeting ADA requirements, accessing the proper permits, and completing work on time.

Once you’ve identified several qualified candidates, request bids for your project and then compare the scope of work with your needs and budget. Your commercial general contractor should oversee design, permitting, construction, materials purchase, and adherence to building code and zoning regulations, as well as sticking to an agreed-upon budget and schedule. It’s important to establish clear communication with your future commercial general contractor, as this will mean a smoother process for everyone. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.
