I worked with Tony while I was at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy. He prepared me well for college golf and he helped me improve every aspect of my game from full swing to my mental game. Most importantly I learned how to develop a winning mentality, and how to respond to my emotions on the golf course. He helped me get through the problems i had on the golf course and invested his time in order for me to achieve my goals.

Golf instruction. Picked out a major flaw immediately and I hit the ball much better and much more consistent than before. Brianne asked what my personal goals were and she got to know me and my thoughts on golf as we worked.

Awesome Experience!! Vincent is very good at teaching anyone the golf swing. I'm very happy with making my decision on Vincent being my golf instructor. In my past I been a lot of golf lessons like golf tech and lot of private lessons. Vincent is by far the best teacher that I ever used. Vincent actually care about making you better with a great personality. He teaches the golf swing and makes it easy to learn that will make you want to come back and learn more. Do yourself a favor and use Vincent to teach you the swing and fitness of golf.

I first heard about Nick, through a friend. That friend and I were pretty even as far as our skill level in golf. But all of a sudden that same friend started hitting the ball 20 yards past me. We were no longer even as far as golf skills, he was way better!! I ask him what happened? He mentioned taking lessons from Nick. So I decided to go see Nick , cause I wanted to find out what he was teaching my friend. Well that was the best decision I could have made. In one session with Nick immediately improved my game!! I hit the ball longer and straiter and now I'm hitting it longer than my friend! Nick gives easy to understand steps, and was able to explain what I was doing wrong. I would recommend Nick to anybody that wants to improve their golf game.

My son thoroughly enjoys his golf lessons with John Koestner. Mr. Koestner is very good at giving instruction in a calm and professional manner. He uses a lot of positive reinforcement and also uses video technology to help my son understand his swing. My son looks forward to his lessons and his game is improving!

Michael is a very patient coach. He is willing to work with what you have instead of completely changing your natural swing. His passion for the game resonates within every instruction. What a great guy! I saw significant progress shortly after the first lesson.

Mike is awesome. He literally took me from knowing nothing about golf and not being able to hit a ball straight to being a pretty decent golfer who bought a golf cart and joined a country club in a matter of 5 weeks. I still get a lesson in with him whenever I'm able which is roughly 3 times a month or so and its been 7 months since I first started with him. I can't recommend him enough. You won't regret it. Not to mention his pricing is very reasonable and he's a really cool guy to golf with. Thanks Mike!

Jason was extremely patient and really helped me learn the fundamentals of golf. As a beginner, new to golf, he really did break it down and make it simple for me to understand the basics and I continue to improve as the result of his lessons! Awesome teacher! Highly recommended.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What makes a good golf instructor?

A good golf instructor is someone who has the playing skill you’d like to achieve, is qualified to teach golf, and is someone you can get along with. Some experts recommend you only take golf lessons from coaches with active accreditation from reputable associations such as the PGA, LPGA, or similar organizations that focus on continuing education. You’ll be spending hours out on the green with the pro during lessons, so a good rapport, strong communication and the right personality fit are key. A proven track record is also important. Read reviews from their current and former students to make sure they have helped people achieve their golfing goals, and always ask about the instructor’s experience before signing on for lessons. Years of providing lessons can contribute to a deeper understanding of how to teach the sport. Just because your friend or partner is great at golf doesn’t mean they’ll give good golf lessons. Invest in a professional golf instructor who knows how to teach the sport from short game to full swing.

How much are golf lessons?

Golf lessons are a great way to break into the sport or take your golf game to a new level. The national average cost for golf lessons is $50-$60, but prices will vary based on what type of lessons you want. The most expensive golf lessons will be private instruction with top-tier coaches. These are golf instructors who have held high professional ranking and have a good reputation. Regardless of who is teaching, private instruction is always more costly than couples’ lessons or small group lessons (usually up to four people). Teachers often offer a lower price per lesson when you buy a package of several lessons at one time. Here are some examples of average golf lesson costs:

  • Individual lessons:
    • Standard pricing for 60-minute private lesson: $60.
    • 60-minute lesson with renowned golf coach: $100.
  • Couples’ lessons:
    • Standard pricing for 90-minute duo lesson: $100.
    • 60-minute lesson with renowned golf coach: $125.
  • Golf lesson package pricing:
    • Purchase six individual lessons at one time and save $10.
    • Purchase 10 individual lessons at one time and save $40.
    • Purchase six couples’ lessons at one time and save $40.
    • Purchase 10 couples’ lessons at one time and save $200.

What age should you start golf lessons?

Golf lessons for kids can start as early as age four or five. They’re too young for formal training, but you can keep them interested and engaged and give them a feel for the game. U.S. Kids Golf recommends starting formal training for junior golfers at six years old. It’s important for young golfers to swing clubs that are the right length and weight for their body; U.S. Kids Golf provides a fitting guide.

Golf lessons for kids, especially young kids, should be about encouraging success rather than correcting mistakes, according to U.S. Kids Golf. If you want your child to love golf for life, you want their early experiences to be positive. Golf lessons for kids are less expensive than golf lessons for adults. A monthly rate (including four lessons) for group golf lessons for kids may average $100. Semi-private golf lessons for kids may range from $150 to $200 per month. Location and instructor reputation can also affect cost. Often, discounts are provided when multiple months are purchased at one time.
