I am Asian, living in the States more than 15 years, and I always wanted to get rid of my accent. I took thirteen hours of private sessions a few years ago. Ms. Hoodwin had nice, easy to understand material for me to work with, and was very patient, kind and professional. In just thirteen hours of her sessions, I learned so much. No one else corrected or even pointed out the things I was saying wrong, or the words that were hard for natives to understand. I would never have known how to correct it on my own without her working with me step by step. I am so glad that I took her sessions. Now, I am more confident and don't have to hesitate to say anything. I am hardly questioned "What did you say?" anymore!! It doesn't matter what level you are at, I know that Ms. Hoodwin can help anyone who has an accent.

I would love to recommend Accents away and Marcia to all non-native English speaker professionals. I have modified my accent and I have improved the production of phonetical sounds to be closer to an American speaker. Today, I feel more confident at delivering verbal communications in an extremely competitive and high demanding environment. I can certainly relate the fact my colleagues are now more focus on the message commincated than the details of my native country. Yo will identify the basic opportunities of improvement to work through the program, In addition to those items you will need to incorporate in your day a day to truly modify your accent. Working with Marcia was fun and a great learning experience. She is not only patient but she understands the difficulty what a student is having. That said, she gives plenty of time to improve and yet works best with your schedule. I have improved in many ways with her teaching style and have learned a lot. I am a Clinical Psychology doctoral student, and I have been working with Marcia for a few months on the improvement of my accent. I have to say it has been a great experience. She is really good at what she does, she is very patient, professional and flexible with her classes, which is great for people with tight schedules. This is definitely a course all foreigners should take to improve clarity and pronunciation. Since taking classes with Marcia, I am much more confident with my oral presentation and attending conferences. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First, I will evaluate your speech and pinpoint the areas where you need improvement. You will be given a comprehensive manual and audio files so that you can practice daily. We will meet once a week, for an hour, in person or via Skype, for a total of 13 weeks. The last session, you will be given a post test to see how much you have improved. I will tell you want you need to do on your own to continue improving, or you may be interested in another class.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Master's Degree in Speech Pathology and specialize in accent modification and pediatric speech disorders. I have been helping people communicate more effectively for over 30 years.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Make sure that the provider has a lot of experience and is well trained. If you have an accent, make sure that the provider doesn't promise you that you will totally eliminate your accent.
