They did a great job removing a large old citrus tree, limbs and stump; and hauled away an old bed, couch and doors. They were at my house within a couple of hours of first submitting the job thru Thumbtack. They had the best prices! Quick, prompt and professional! I will definitely be using them again for tree trimming and lot clearing!

A tree root broke my sprinkler pipe. Tried to get it repaired the same day. After 3 tries and the standard reply of 1-2 weeks, I looked up Chris Thoms on Thumbtack. He responded quickly and promised to try and work me in. He came through. Super friendly and helpful in repairing the break and getting my rain sensor working (this will help save on my water bill). Exceeded my expectations.

Matt was very knowledgeable and had a crew that did an outstanding job. They cleaned and took away all the debris. He answered my numerous questions regarding the Oaks (have 11 of them) and pointed out that I have 6 air plants in my trees that will bloom after he cut, trimmed and took out a lot of Spanish moss. With the clean up of my trees I now have a home for a pleated woodpecker (endangered and nest in old dying oaks) that had been pecking at this tree. I wanted to save the tree and so Matt trimmed instead of taking down and did not charge me so it would be stable just for the bird. His arborist also took a passion vine that was in the tree and they cut and instead of throwing it away -- the arborist helped me in potting the cuttings!! The price was fair, was on time and when he was suppose to come.

One word describes Aron and that is AWESOME. Very respectful, friendly, and cares a great deal about his work. We wound up taking a small job and increasing it to include cleaning/weeding around shrubs and trees which had been overgrown by grass, laying 4 pallets of mulch, and installing soaker hoses throughout the yard. Could not be happier!!

Initially I thought Dan was the right pro for the job however upon hiring him I was disappointed with his lack of communication. He was schedule to show up at one time but didn't actually come until hours later, which would have been fine but at least a heads up would have been nice. Both days I had to reach out to him to ensure he was coming. Very unprofessional. He did finish the project on time however my reason for the poor review is the quality of the plants installed as well as what I deem as a lack of knowledge. He states the reason he was late one day was because he had to go to Tampa to get the plants because this nursery had the best plants. Before the plants were installed they looked half dead to me. Trusting his judgement I let him proceed without making any remarks. He told me to water the plants once a day for 30 days. After a few weeks some of the plants appeared to be dying. He mentioned that he guaranteed his work for 30 days. Well before 30 days I called to let him know that I was doing exactly what he instructed and the plants didn't seem to be thriving. He was in the area, stopped by and said it was normal for them to look like that. Thinking perhaps I didn't give them enough time I accepted that answer. A few more weeks went by and the plants are still not thriving. Frustrated and upset I contacted him again this time to request that the dying plants be replaced. He agreed to replace the dying plants. 2-3 weeks went by and I heard nothing from him. I reached out to him again to ask if he forgot about me. He stated he planned to come see me Friday. Friday came and went and I never heard from him. At this point I'm tired of trying to hunt him down to do what he said he "guaranteed" he would do. I feel like I was over charged and he didn't deliver. I would not recommend this landscaper. Now I have 3 dying plants (including one palm tree) that need to be replaced. The attached pictures are what the plants looked like no more than two weeks after install. This does look like high quality plants to me. Either he didn't know or didn't care. Had he have kept his word and replaced them this would have been a totally different review. I can look past being late and some of the plants not thriving, because perhaps that's out of his control but if you "guarantee" to do something, you should do it. I should have to wait a month and never hear from you. DO NOT HIRE HIM.

He came prepared, was polite, and did a good job. I would highly recommend Ryan for tree work and any other work that I had available. He was honest, showed up when he said he would and did a good job at a fair price. Thank you Ryan.

Adam with Lawn & Tree Salon provided a prompt quote that was more competitive than the other companies. His team was able to come out and do the work within a few days. They did a fine job tearing out a yard full of bushes and shrubs, leveled out our yard and put down new sod in a matter of hours. Well done. Thank you.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
