George did a substantial amount of handyman work at my home i just bought. He is a very meticulous painter that doesnt miss spots or leave a mess. George can handle jobs as routine as mounting ceiling fans or hanging pictures or window shades, all the way up to stripping, sanding and staining natural wood stairs that were hidden underneath carpet. These turned out great thanks to George. George works quickly and wont stop until a job is done to your satisfaction. I highly recommend him and will use him again myself.

Donnelly Construction remodeled my office replacing the carpet with tile and adding office space. Completely painted and added crown molding. Vanity replaced and bathroom done. They did exactly what I wanted done and had no problem making changes and did more than I asked for. Mike Donnelly is a the most honest hard working builder I've ever met. I highly recommend him for all your construction or home building needs.

We are new to the Sarasota area and did not have any reliable way to find good dependable contractors. I used Thumbtack to contact Kimball and Sons.Ryan Kimball and all of his crew were very professionall, punctual and did high quality work. he made sure that the subcontractors he called were also responsive to our needs. If you are looking for an excellent and trustworthy contractor...I would highly recommend Kimball and dons...

Price was the best I had seen. He came out and gave me a good quote then showed up on-time the following day. He worked hard all day and got my house clean after a full remodel/renovation. The windows are so clean they almost look like mirrors! The downside were my floors: My main concern or item of greatest importance -- which was explicitly stated beforehand -- were my floors. I had a large amount of drywall dust in the new grout and he was unable to get it out. I ended up having to scrub the grout for 8-10 hours with industrial vinegar to get the grout clean again. That said, I would definitely use his services again. He worked hard from 9am to 7pm and my house looks great. If you want a detailed and clean then yes -- if you have stubborn construction dust... good luck

Steven listened closely to our requirements - even as they changed as we began the job. He arrived on schedule, worked quickly and cleanly, per our direction, and completed the job on the committed schedule. What more could one as of a contractor?

John Reece was a pleasure to work with on home remodel including complete kitchen remodel, new floors, relocating front door and windows and updates to bathroom. John shared great insights for ideas at every stage of the project. His professionalism and communication were key, as we were working with him from out of state. As with any remodel, expected to find things along the way and he had great ideas - both quality and affordable options. His work is high quality and was ahead of schedule. We are thrilled with the results and highly recommend John Reece & Associates.

Bryce came to my home with excellent ideas and plans to remodel my kitchen. From start to finish the job site was clean and plan well executed. We where informed daily of the progress which we liked very much. At the end of the day all debris and mess was cleaned up. He even made a point to wait till we got home daily to discuss the work that was performed that day and answer any questions or concerns we had. I know have a beautiful custom kitchen and love it. I recommend him highly for any of your remodeling work, and look forward to working with him again. Thanks Bryce

START: We got many offers for tile job for remodeling our master bathroom. When Noah came to look at the job, he seemed to know what he was facing at this project. Our floor needed complete relevelling. Plus we asked them to build a shower pan and also change pluming quite a lot: the shower drain was moved, we had a new toilet seat and cabinets. Noah said he had a group of 5 people to work around our project. We also had a challenge with the time. Noah said it can be done inside 7 days, as we asked. We had picked marble tile, which wasn't the easiest to work with. RESULT: They worked very long hours (as we set the limit; working between 7:30 am - 10 pm) and ALL was finished in 3 DAYS ! Everything was as promised, work was done properly, and there was everyday 3-5 men working in different location around the bathroom. The finishing touch was really good and they clean up after all was done. We talked with the men working and for example the senior tile men had done tile works for 18 years. And that really showed on the tiles! We were so happy with Noah and his group that we ask him to do another job around the house next week! And again: we were very pleased with his work! He is very honest and hardworking professional, who has a good group of men with him. We really give Noah and his group 5 stars!

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
