Bruce came on time as promised. Did a very good job cleaning our duct and vents. There was some miscommunication in regards to the numbers of ducts and as result he charged more than quoted. He recognized that our coil blower was clean and didn't clean it but nevertheless he charged for it as well.

Kevin and his assistant very professional and polite. Did a good job cleaning grout and tile. Very competitive pricing. Only company that would provide an estimate based on the square footage i submitted. Kevin came out after Thumptack Estimate to verify measurements and to schedule job. Very satisfied with the results.

Eric from EZService did a great cleaning job for our home dryer air duct. He has earned our trust and I would call him again if needed. I would refer him to family and friends in a heart beat. His price was comparable to other companies. Because of his professionalism, great price and punctuality I also hired him for 2 more air duct cleanings for rental properties. Good job Eric!

South Florida Ducts did a great job for me again. My air conditioner went out a few nights ago and my AC guy was not calling me back. I recently had South Florida Ducts come out to do a duct cleaning and duct restoration for me and the guys were so friendly and knowledgeable I decided to give them a shot at the AC service. Sure enough, they came out the same night and took care of me. Pricing was very reasonable too, especially considering it was so late.

I needed to get my hot water working again after our Titan Instahot tankless water heater gave out. We've only had the house a couple of weeks so it was quite disappointing. I sent out a thumbtack message way after midgnight and by early next morning, Mike was one of the people who responded. When I called it was really great that Mike offered a free inspection of the plumbing, which he was able to do within a few hours that day. Not only is Mike familiar with tankless and was able to provide several options regarding that, but he was also able to provide me with estimates for going with an appropriate tank as well. Both options included what turned out to be an accurate estimate for the necessary electrical work as well. Mike was quickly able to recommend a great electrician (also called Mike) and everyone was able to work on the fix within 48 hours of the original thumbtack posting. Mike, Junior and Mike are great guys and I really appreciate how quickly and economically they fixed the problem. Couldn't be happier.

I had a problem with my microwave and washing machine and they were here within hours of my contacting them. Both technicians were knowledgeable, pleasant to work with, and trustworthy. I couldn't recommend them more, especially after having had some bad experiences with other repair companies since moving here to Florida last summer. They were wonderful!

I had Numerous people come to my home and charge for an estimate and never actually give me an estimate because they claim there is a wall blocking the duct work Well Anthony actually walked up in the attic instead of just taking a peek saw that you can get to the duct work! He quoted and completed the job and cleaned up after himself. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for work done

I had a buildup of gunk and dust inside my ductwork, every time i would get home my nose would start to get itchy . I tried everything from new cleaning products to special hypoallergenic filters you name it I did it. I called those other guys you know your w is hot guys. They looked around for about 10 min and recommend so much stuff I mean it was well over a few thousand dollars. I new My A/c system was less than 2 years old !!! They just wanted my money. Well a friend of mine recommend jesse. He came over and asked me what the problem was he inspected my system. He recommended a duct cleaning. I told him what the other guys recommended he said with all honesty your system is less than 2 years old what you need is a duct cleaning just think about what is lurking inside your ducts. my A/c system was new but my ductwork wasn't. . Safe to say to say jesse was right. he went as far as to build a special machine to really get inside of my ductwork at no extra charge . This guy is honest!! he really took his time to get to the root of my problem. From now on I only use him for all of my A/c needs

Had a bad problem with my air quality in the house. Checked the A/C and thought it might have been sawdust. Decided that I didn’t have dryer vent cleaned since I bought my house back in 2010. Gave Q’s Dryer Vent Cleaning a call. Set up an appointment for the next day. Met Eddie (who arrived on time) who was very friendly and courteous about the situation and what was needed. Took care of the problem in a timely matter and for a great price as well. Would highly recommend him for anyone who needs their dryer vent cleaned and hasn’t had it done in a while. Overall 5/5 stars for great service that was done right on time.

I was impressed from the start with this company. The young lady i spoke to was so knowledgeable about the process of the duct cleaning and was able to answer all my questions without hesitation, but the real test was when the technicians showed up. They were so polite and showed up on time. The cleaning of my ducts was exactly as i was told it would be when i called to schedule the appointment. These technicians took their time and made sure everything was done the correct way. I was happy with everything, but most impressed with not only how clean my vents were when they finished but how they cleaned up all the dust when they were finished. For months I would sneeze and have a stuffy nose, but only when i was home..... 30 mins after they left all that was gone!!! Absolute AC has gained a life long customer!!! I highly recommend this company!!

These gentlemen are AMAZING!! We required 2 new units for a newly purchased property and did some shopping around for quotes. 5 different companies quoted us 10k or more for a 3ton and 5ton. Met one of these gentlemen at a Home Depot and he was actually able to meet me later that day for an estimate. He was there for nearly an hour and unlike the other companies he actually inspected both systems and informed me that 1 system was fully operational and changing it out would merely be a choice (wife wanted it changed). He also took the time to climb into the attic to inspect the ducts where I learned that I had serious issues. More than half of the flexible ducts needed to be changed. I truly expected his price to exceed all other estimates but to my surprise with 2 systems and redoing entire duct (3200sf home) I still managed to pay under 10k. As stated in first sentence these guys are AMAZING!! No other way to put it. These will be the only guys working on our properties.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

How much does it cost to replace air ducts in a house?

If your air ducts have been damaged, you’ll need to replace them. The national average air duct replacement cost is $150-$280, which may not include materials. Factors such as duct material, labor, location of ducts and linear feet of ductwork will all affect your final costs. Labor costs will vary based on how accessible the ducts are and what material your ducts are made of. The least expensive duct material is a flexible, non-metallic ducting that costs approximately $1-$2 per linear foot. Flexible aluminum is generally more expensive and stronger than non-metallic ducting. Stainless steel ducting is the strongest, the least flexible (meaning installing it typically has higher labor rates), and usually the most expensive. An average price for air duct replacement could range between $35 and $55 per linear foot, including basic materials and labor. A typical single-family home has 6-10 duct runs; replacing or installing one duct run could average $150-$250 for labor.

How much does it cost to have your air ducts cleaned?

If you’re concerned about dust, allergens or mold, it may be time to have your air ducts cleaned. The national average cost for air duct cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Air duct cleaning costs will vary based on a number of factors such as your location in the country, the age and condition of your air ducts, the number of linear feet to be cleaned, and any repairs your ducts may need. HVAC cleaning companies should clearly outline what is included in their services and at what rate, so always make sure you understand and have a written agreement before work begins. Here are some examples of average air duct cleaning costs:

    • Tiered pricing for different levels of service:
      • Standard cleaning: $100, which may include truck-mounted industrial vacuums, high-pressure air wands and air snakes to clean all supply and return vents, branch lines, and main trunk lines.
      • Advanced cleaning: $200, which may include standard cleaning services, plus rotobrush or viper clean sweep in the main trunk lines.
      • Ultimate cleaning: $400, which may include advanced cleaning, plus insertion of a viper microline into all vents to force debris down the branch lines and into the main trunk lines, to be handled by the viper clean sweep. Typically, all ductwork surface is contacted, before-and-after photos are provided, and the furnace is cleaned.
    • A flat rate for unlimited vents: $289.
    • Additional fees for larger houses: $20 for each additional 500 square feet over 2,500.

How long does it take to get your ducts cleaned?

The amount of time air duct cleaning takes can depend on how extensive your duct system is, how old your air ducts are, and whether they have ever been cleaned. On average, expect a standard size home (between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet) to take 2-5 hours for one to two technicians to clean. Here are the proper protocol and equipment you should expect from a professional duct cleaning service, as recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency:

    • All doors and access ports opened to ensure the entire duct system is inspected and cleaned.
    • Thorough system inspection prior to cleaning to identify possible asbestos-containing materials. If asbestos is present, specially trained and equipped contractors must do the removal.
    • Use of approved vacuum equipment that exhausts particles outside of your house. If the vacuum exhausts inside your home, it must be HEPA equipment.
    • Furnishings and carpet covered and protected.
    • Soft-bristled brushes only on fiberglass duct board and sheet metal ducts internally lined with fiberglass.
    • Ductwork properly protected.
    • Adherence to guidelines and practices set down by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
