"A truly amazing experience getting a 90 minute body massage. Katya was the ultimate professional, getting there 10 minutes early to set up, asking the pertinent questions before the massage and hitting every spot needed. My muscles and body felt so alleviated and I was so relaxed after this amazing massage. I even took it a step further and asked questions about healthy eating and she gave me a whole 20 minutes of her time to give me healthy eating tips! I recommend Peace Bodyworks for all!"

"Before even the thought of a gym would give me a headache; mostly it was because I have not exercise in a long time and never set foot in a gym ever! Plus with my hectic schedule I did not know where this would all fit! Add to that hiring a trainer - now I was extremely nervous. - However Frantz Pierre changed it all. Our first meeting he made it his business to get to know me by listening to what my goals and fears were while he came up with a plan centered around me and my busy schedule. - Now I see the Gym in a whole new way to the point where I'm actually looking forward to the new challenges he has for me. They are difficult but he will stay right there with you and helping you stay focus. - He is a serious trainer, really fun to work with and knows his craft. Before you know it, the session is over. So whatever your motivation is to exercise, you will not go wrong with Frantz Pierre. - He is the first trainer I have ever hired, and I would not have it any other way. Within a week of starting, I already lost 4 pounds. Looking forward to losing some more!"

"Ken is my brother, so I knew from experience that he is ultra talented and knowledgeable. When he trains me - it is always a great workout with the best direction and if you ever want an ultimate, great deep tissue massage, I can say first hand that his massage therapy skills are extremely high. I am a chiropractor, so I have had the opportunity to compare. Outstanding!"

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
