Justin Some Plumbing Tips You May Find Helpful: 1) A burst rubber washing machine hose is a top homeowner insurance claim. Spend the extra few dollars and replace those flimsy rubber hoses with stainless steel braided hoses and avoid all that trouble! 2) Personally, I'm not sure why anyone would do this, but there should be no bricks in the toilet tank! They can keep your toilet from flushing correctly. 3) Don't use liquid drain cleaners. They eat away at the pipes, and think about how much it would cost to cut up the slab of your house to fix them, that is if you can find them, then having to re-carpet or re-tile. Try a plunger, or hire a professional who has an auger to fix the problem quickly! 4) Know where the main water shut-off for your house is. You have no idea how many calls I've gotten where someone's screaming and crying that their house is flooding because a pipe has burst, and they don't know where to shut the water off. 5) If your tub or shower isn't draining like it used to, it's likely it's clogged up with hair. This is an easy fix for a plumber, but not something that I'd recommend you try yourself. 6) Those "flush-able" baby wipes are one of the main culprits for clogging pipes. They don't break down the way toilet paper does. 7) Do you like a lot of water pressure in the shower? It's against the rules to remove flow restrictors from your shower heads, but if you ask, sometimes we'll do it for you. 8) Are you always jiggling the toilet handle? Your flapper needs to be replaced or adjusted. It's a quick fix for someone who knows what they're doing. I find myself doing it at friends' houses when I notice they have a problem. 9) There's almost always an allen wrench that comes with a garbage disposal. Keep it under the sink. If you come back from vacation or if something falls down there and gets stuck, turn the garbage disposal off, insert the allen wrench in the bottom of the disposal; the hole's right in the middle, and try to turn it both ways. It may take some effort, but it should break your garbage disposal loose. 10) Before you go on vacation, pour some cooking oil down your garbage disposal. That should keep it from rusting and jamming. 11) Small drips can waste over eight gallons of water a day, and a continuously running toilet can waste more than 200 gallons of water daily. You'll pay more on your water bill over time than you would just getting them fixed. 12) When you're going out of town, shut off the water to your house, otherwise, on rare occasions, you may not be happy what you find when you get back. If you have any other questions, anything at all, I'd be happy to answer anything at all for you.
