The professional was on time and was ready and had all of his equipment with him. Only complaint is that he wasn’t given all the information on what furniture we had even though I sent pictures and explained ahead of time. None the less he finished the work and our chairs and sofa are clean.

I usually don't write reviews but I must take a moment to say how awesome Carlos was. I'll put them in bullet point order: 1. completely flexible with arrangements 2. called ahead to confirm he was on his way 3. arrived right on time 4. was very nice and courteous 5. listened to my concerns 6. Did an AMAZING JOB cleaning all my carpets in the house and all of my upholstery, really took his time to make sure things looked great! 7. Got ALL of the stains out of all carpets and furniture, and ODORS too 8. It's only been an hour and my carpets and coaches are barely wet. In the past other cleaners would over saturate everything and it would take an entire day to dry. 9. Very clean and organized, didn't leave any water drips or anything. What else can I say? This is a 5 star rating and you can tell Carlos cares very much about the satisfaction of his customers, and pride in the work he does. Thank you Carlos! I'll be back next year.

Mark was very professional and friendly. He came in, did the job to our satisfaction, and was out of here in no time. He did a fantastic job cleaning our furniture, including adding a fabulous smelling deodorizer. We are very pleased and will call on Mark again when the need arises. ... to top it off, Mark even talked to my son about some fishing spots (which was a thrill to my son) ... Very friendly guy! Thank you, Mark!

Stephen and Jeff came and picked up a chest that needed repair. They took it, repaired the problem and returned it to my house a week later. They did a great job and were courteous and professional. I would recommend for a furniture repair/refinish project.

They did an excellent job of removing mold from our basement after a leak. Mold had also gotten on some of our furniture upstairs and they checked everything in our house and removed mold from all of it. They were so nice and very professional and did quality work in a timely manner. They just returned to do a follow-up inspection and we are still mold free. They always went above and beyond? I would highly recommend this company.

Our bookshelves were delivered last week and we are delighted with them! The attention to detail is superb...the molding matches perfectly, as does the paint color. We were able to unpack 10 boxes of books, as well as other decorative items and photographs and still have empty shelves. The cabinets hold toys and games with room to spare. Tim & Ginger were professional to work with and delivered everything that we asked for and more. We could not be happier!

Chrissie was referred to us by a friend, and that was one fortunate referral for us! Besides being a lovely person who is a joy to have in our home, she is an amazingly versatile and talented artist; we've used her four times already! She has refreshed our living room by fauxing a wood and tile fireplace and the flanking bookcases; she has textured the walls of our main-floor powder room, creating a unique space; she has made two hand-painted floor cloths for our kitchen; and she undertook the huge project of transforming a suite of dining room furniture -- dining table with two leaves, six chairs, a sideboard and a tea cart -- from a 1950s dull walnut finish to a gorgeous, marbled black-and-white finish that is one-of-a-kind. Chrissie even painstakingly made the marblizing flow across the leaves so that the table top looks like one piece whether or not the leaves are in!

Bradley and his assistant did a great job in addressing damage from a foundation leak in my basement. I had several quotes from providers on Thumbtack (some cheaper) but was really impressed with he went about the work and how thorough he was in his work. No shortcuts taken. Moved out all the furniture in the affected area, used heavy gauge plastic to quarantine off the area to contain dust and mold, removed all affected drywall, carpet, and damaged items, and remediated molded areas. Very professional, reasonably priced, and would highly recommend him to anyone.

Zoltan made five pieces of bedroom furniture for me - two night stands, two wardrobes, and a chest. These were intended to compliment an Indian antique headboard. The pieces were made from my drawings and some pictures. The furniture is exactly as I described, the workmanship was outstanding, and I could not be happier! What is more, Zoltan told me exactly when he could do the work, brought me samples of finishes so that we could be sure they would compliment the headboard, and kept me updated throughout the process. The delivery was as careful and thoughtful as the rest of the experience and exactly when he said he would deliver. I knew exactly what I wanted both in size and workmanship, and it just is not available in stores at any price. Thankfully, I found Torteli Custom Woodworks. Now, I have heirloom quality real wood furniture, of my design, made by a true craftsman. I highly recommend this shop.

It was a total pleasure working with Greg! I had problems finding someone in the past, and when I went on Thumbtacks, he responded immediately. I brought him my piece of furniture that I needed fixed, and he assured me that he could do it, and he did a beautiful job. His price was very reasonable, and he had it fixed in a couple of days, which was way quicker than I expected. I would definitely use him again for any work, and would HIGHLY recommend him to everyone. A true gentleman who was a pleasure to do business with!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is upholstery cleaning?

From your carpets to your drapes to your furniture, all fabrics need to be cleaned. Cleaning upholstery, or the fabric on your furniture, removes the dirt and oils that are transferred to couches and chairs through regular use. Because furniture upholstery can be delicate and colors can fade easily, it’s often a good idea to let professional sofa cleaners handle the job. They’ll determine the type of fabric — usually cotton, linen, wool, suede or microfiber — and the appropriate method for cleaning it, either steam-cleaning or applying a dry-cleaning solvent. In general, cleaning an entire piece of furniture includes a pretreatment, cleaning, and neutralizing rinse to the body, plus removing and cleaning all cushions and cleaning all crevices.

An upholstery cleaner may clean the entire piece of furniture, on a regular schedule or by request, or do spot treatments to remove pet, food, drink, or oil and grease stains. Furniture can also be deodorized to remove the smell of pets or tobacco smoke. Furniture that’s used often, like that in your family room, should be cleaned once a year to keep it fresh and extend its life. Sofa cleaners often also offer repair services to mend tears in fabric or patch holes in leather.

How much does upholstery cleaning cost?

The cost to have your upholstered furniture cleaned depends mostly on two factors: the size of the furniture and the type of fabric. The national average cost of upholstery cleaning ranges from $120 to $150. Most people have multiple pieces cleaned at once, but sofa cleaners will come to your home for just one heavily soiled couch or to spot-treat stains. The smaller the furniture, the lower the cost: A lounge chair may cost an average of $50 to clean, while a couch costs an average of $135 and an L-shaped sectional costs an average of $190. Delicate materials such as antique fabrics or suede upholstery are more expensive to clean than sturdier ones. Having the sofa cleaner do repairs will also add to the cost. Repairs such as mending a tear in fabric or patching a hole in leather may be charged by the task or by the hour; in general, repairs cost an average of $15 each. Special or delicate fabrics may cost additional fees, too.

Who cleans couches?

Even if your furniture doesn’t appear dirty or stained, your couches are collecting just as much dust, pollen, germs, pet hair and dander, and even food crumbs as your carpets. In general, the same professionals who clean your carpets and drapes can also clean your couches. Carpet cleaners usually offer upholstery cleaning services as well, and may offer a discount if you have your carpets cleaned at the same time. Alternatively, you can choose from a range of professional upholstery cleaners in your area who specialize in cleaning different types of upholstery fabrics, including delicate antique fabrics and other hard-to-clean materials such as suede. In addition to deep-cleaning the entire piece of furniture, sofa cleaners can spot-treat food, pet, and oil and grease stains. Most professionals also offer services to sanitize and deodorize your furniture and apply protectants to prevent future stains. As with carpets, experts recommend that you have your upholstered furniture cleaned once every year or two, depending on how much use it gets and whether you have children and pets.
