She cooked a plated dinner for 12 people as a birthday surprise for my mom. Everyone loved the 4 courses and loved the event. We started with curry crab soup followed by a wonderful kale salad. The sweet and smokey dressing was amazing and the soup was spicy and delicious. The entree was a Spanish braised chicken on top of risotto and the dessert was an apple crisp with home made cinnamon ice cream. She was awesome and left my house cleaner than it was to beforeign she arrived. It was a great evening.

Sabrina was amazing! I decided to have a surprise dinner and cocktail party for my boyfriends 30th. She helped me make an amazing menu selection for the dinner and cocktail. She even went as far as helping create 2 specialty cocktails. She was beyond professional and so was her assistant Kevin. They made me feel at ease with the planning of the surprise. She was very accommodating as well. The food was delicious! The salad she created with pecans, cranberries, blue cheese, and a delicious dressing was amazing. The steak was very juicy and tender and the sides (mashed potatoes with a special gravy and asparagus w/lemon sauce) were great additions. The dessert, peach cobbler and ice cream, was to die for! I took the leftovers of that for the next day and it was just as good as it was that night. She had the table set beautifully. I am definitely using Sabrina for all my events in the future (bridal shower, birthdays, etc.). My boyfriend was so happy and he will never forget his 30th. He is still smiling and talking about it.

I have been working with David Engle for 15 years now. My name is Heather of Heather Corinne Signature Events http://hcsignatureevents.com/ and as a certified wedding/event planner, I use Simple Service Catering and Three Scoops Mobile Ice Cream Parlour for my off premise events. You can count on Dave to return your calls and emails promptly (hard to find in the catering industry). The food is always abundant and delicious! Recently Dave called me to manage a beautiful white wedding at Bonaventure Town Center in Weston, Saturday November 29th. The food was fantastic and the staff excellent as usual. Beginning with cold appetizer display and butler passed hors d’oeuvres; the menu included “live action” pasta station and a carving station with filet mignon and turkey, topped off with coffee service and their ice cream sundae cart. Guests had a great time and danced their hearts out. Their staff is always professional and friendly. I know when SSC is on my team I don't have to worry. There's peace of mind knowing he's there to make my events seamless, from set up to breakdown. They go beyond just providing food and service; the staff will assist me with table and chair set up, bar set up and service, and rental orders. It truly is a full service catering company. As an individual, David is a wonderful Dad, trustworthy, always fair, and GLBT friendly! There are many catering companies to choose from out there but why? His pricing is competitive and the quality is top notch. I highly recommend him for any occasion, in fact, for all of your events. Over the years he has established multiple repeat clients, some families have used him for all their kids' mitzvahs/birthdays. Couples, who hired him for their wedding, also use him for their rehearsal dinners/bridal showers, and again for their baby showers. Corporate clients book him for grand openings, open houses, networking events, employee appreciation days, and holiday parties. He’s currently working on a fantastic new website! The website will feature menus, photos, and will include the mobile ice cream parlour and candy buffet business. That’s right; you can hire Dave to bring your sweet treats. The old fashioned mobile ice cream parlour and themed candy displays are a great addition to any event or may be ordered individually. Call David today to book your next event! Feel free to call or text me if you would like a direct referral or event planning services at 954-348-8954.

Antionette and her staff did a very good job in catering a graduation party for a total of 150 people. The food presentation was very nice, food itself was good, the ice tea and mineral water drinks were delicious. Overall good job the only thing I would have liked is for the food to have been left behind after the staff finished serving, as we had some guests who arrived very late. Would use again.

I asked Matt to prepare heavy apps for an 80 person birthday party. Additionally, I wanted food that could be served either cold or room temperature and it needed to be impressive (no chicken tenders and pigs in a blanket, please). Heirloom tomato and watermelon gazpacho? Wild mushroom and brie bruschetta? Smoked salmon on cucumber with dill and cream? YES! I couldn't have been more pleased with Matt who got my vision and executed perfectly. Highly recommend him for sure, he's a very talented Chef!

Chef Lou is a teacher along with being a chef. He is engaging and encouraging and will help you learn. I had him teach us baking recipes: macaroons and cream puffs. He gives tips to help you and gets you involved in the cooking. I would encourage anyone who wants to learn a specific technique along with anyone who wants an excellent chef to reach out to Chef Louis! (We also made a French apple tart: best pie crust ever!)

I absolutely LOVE Elegant Events By J&S! They have the best prices in town (trust me, I am the research queen) and it was great to be able to book all of my services at one place. My consultant (Sheran) was amazing! She planned my entire wedding (including invitations, cake, catering, venue, and decorations) in just a mere ten days. She is my hero! I will be using them again for future events. They are so creative!

Christina Daniel owner of The Cook's Delight did an amazing outstanding catering for my wedding! She's extremely professional and her set up was more than what I ever imagined it to be for my wedding. Everyone at the wedding said it was the best food they have had at a wedding EVER!! She made everything from scratch, it was so fresh and just wonderful! People were taking home plates of her food and she made cupcakes for my cake! Absolutely delicious! She even went so far as to making 4 different flavors for my guest from chocolate, strawberry with cream cheese, maragrita, & red velvet! I HIGHLY recommend her for any and all events of your choice! She can do it ALL.. Thank you Cooks Delight for making my day even more special by going above and beyond for us.

Had an Excellent authentic Italian dinner thanks to Chef Brooc. His Carbonara was truly the best I have had. His expertise is not limited to Italian, so I cannot wait to try one of his other cuisines! The icing on the cake is his knowledge of healthy, clean foods. He was able to accommodate my clients allergies with ease! thank you Chef Brooc!

This was my first time using Blace Ice to cater an event but it will not be th elast. Mr. Frazier did a rehearsal dinner for about 35 people and the food was outstanding as evident with the empty plates and words of praise stating what an excellent choice. He did a pulled chicken(that was juicy, flavorful, and well prepared) and a couple of sides with a peach cobbler and everything was great. In addition to the great food he was very professional, timely, and just a great host throughtout the event checking on the guests. So again first time using will not be the last and would recommend his catering to everyone. Best bang for your buck!!!

It would be fair to say I am an expert on cake..eating :) and the cake I had at Pastries by Valerie was the best ever. Literally. From the beautiful piped icing to the light delicious cake. It was a highly customized cake and she did an amazing job 😊 It was, I think, what heaven on earth actually tastes like. Anyways they are great, Pastries by Valerie is clearly a true master pastry and cake chef, a Rembrandt using flour and sugar as tools. You wont be disappointed.

Sogno Gelato recently catered my son's birthday party with all his favorite flavors....Staff was very friendly and professional. They arrived on time and provided great customer service. The staff was great with all the kids; they even came from behind the cart to hand the gelato cup to the kids. I will surely use them again. My sister is planning a wedding - we plan to use Sogno Gelato service.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

How much should catering cost per person?

Catering prices can range from about $10 per guest on the low end to $150 or more per person on the high end. Catering costs represent the quality of food, presentation, variety, ingredients and service. But catering prices are more than the cost to cook the food that will be at your party; they also include the cost for the company to do business. Here is a simple breakdown of catering prices:

      • Menu: The food you serve your guests will directly affect the price per person. Organic ingredients, complex recipes, elaborate presentations, or high-ticket items like lobster or filet mignon all add to the cost.
      • Service: Buffet, family style, plated dinners — how you serve the food affects the cost per person. For example, a true plated meal can cost about twice the price of a staff-assisted buffet because of staffing costs. Hiring waiters, bartenders and cleanup crew will all be calculated into the per-person catering price.
      • Drinks: Providing beverages and alcoholic drinks for guests greatly increases your catering budget. Hosting an open bar can cost as much per person as the meal.
      • Rentals: Seating, plates, glassware, etc., will all have an effect on the cost per person for catering. For example, a plastic conference table that seats 10 costs about $6 to rent on average, while a wooden farmhouse table is about $80 to rent on average.
      • Business costs: Any catering cost will also include the cost for the company to do business such as insurance, employee wages, commercial kitchen space and more.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
