I’ve never corresponded with someone as friendly, responsive, and positive as Mark Shaver, the owner of Buckhead Paws. He quickly quoted me a fair price for pet sitting our cats within moments of me placing a project on Thumbtack, and quickly answered all my questions in a way that made it enjoyable to communicate with him. He walked me through the process of scheduling the pet sitting appointment and was patient with my questions. We set up a meeting and Mark showed up with our actual pet sitter to be, Kim. It was nice having the owner of a company take the time to come over to meet our kitties also. Both were really nice, and asked thoughtful questions as we showed them where everything was. It made us feel we were in good hands. While we were away Kim gave us daily photos and updates of our kitties, many of them funny, which were very much appreciated. They were often the bright spot of our day. Kim picked up packages as needed and even cleared our deck for window washers. We knew he was only a text away if we needed anything. But the true test was seeing how the kitties were when we returned. They were calm and cheerful, the house clean, even the trash emptied. We are really pleased with this service and will definitely use Buckhead Paws again.

Sarah is wonderful! I was nervous to find a pet sitter because I was always lucky enough to have family in town to take care of my cat Kate. But that wasn't the case anymore and luckily I found Sarah! She was exactly on time for our first meeting to get to know her. I went over everything and she took notes and asked questions. After each visit she let me know how Kate was doing and sent me some pictures. She went out of her way when I needed her and I would recommend her to anyone looking for a pet sitter. I have just relocated to a new state and will miss having Sarah to watch my sweet Kate!

I highly recommend Lori and We Tuck Em In for pet sitting/care. My husband and I went on vacation out of the country for 2 weeks and hired We Tuck Em In to take care of our little dog, Lulu. Lulu is VERY important to us and after meeting Lori, we felt so comfortable leaving Lulu in her care. Everything went great, Lori sent us pictures and kept us informed about Lulu. We greatly appreciated that. When Lori brought our house key back after our return, we could tell that she and Lulu had truly bonded. Lulu was very excited to see her again. This was a very good feeling. We have already booked We Tuck Em In for another trip in January, 2018. We highly recommend this service.

This was the first time using a pet sitter and our total experience with Linda from Coweta Fayette Pet Sitting Services was absolutely superb! Upon returning from our 4 day get-away, our two cats were totally relaxed and happy as though we had not been away. Not only did she take great care of our cats, she also looked after our chickens and ducks with no hesitation! Linda did everything that we requested and more. The rate quoted/charged was very reasonable. We will continue to use Coweta Fayette Pet Sitting for our future pet sitting needs! THANKS Linda for great care and a great overall experience! P. Wade

Since my kennel was already booked I was looking for a place to board my cats at the last minute. I found the staff at Whiskers on Kittens very helpful. Morgan was accommodating, great to work with and did a great job. The facility was first class and my cats were very comfortable and cared for. Whiskers on Kittens is now my first choice for boarding and sitting my cats. Since I live in Johns Creek the convenience is great.

Janet just finished house/dog sitting for us and we are so happy to have found her! We have five (yes, five!) high-strung dogs and in all honestly, I thought she would have declined providing a quote after coming to visit us. The dogs were taken care of as if they were her own. She walked them, loved them, and protected our home for four days. The house was spotless when we returned and communication throughout our vacation was excellent. Thank you, Janet!

Rita is very knowledgeable and professional. I trust her completely with my pet family and my home. I have used her about 4-5 times within the last year and a half. She has stayed with my dogs and cats as long as 8 days straight. It is comforting to know your pets and house are being cared for when you travel. Don't hesitate one moment hiring Rita! She's the best!

Carol is fantastic! She is professional and timely. She is much more mature than most pet sitters around. Very reliable! She is comfortable with older dogs and cats as well as puppies and kittens. She says she can do fish and birds too! She can administer meds and handle emergencies like a pro.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

  • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
  • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
    • 45-minute visit: $28.
    • 60-minute visit: $32.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
  • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
    • 12 hours: $100.
    • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
