Very professional, punctual and an extremely hard worker. He honestly does not finish until the works done and the customer is satisfied. He assembled a 12x14 gazebo with tin roof for me and it's wonderful. I highly recommend him and I will be using him in he future!!!!

Great work! Aaron stayed till 3 am till my massive IKEA build was completed. He knew his stuff and stressed safety and building the products to high specifications (there were no screws or bolts left over when he was done)! He knows IKEA stuff and built me 3 chest of drawers, 1 makeup vanity and 1 bed. He also helped me hang a painting above the bed. Highly recommended!

Movers arrived on time and got right to work. Everyone was very nice and worked non stop. Move took longer than expected due to location of the new place in the building with long halls to walk and not having a freight elevator. The traffic was extremely bad and ate up a chunk of time which was no ones fault however another guy and the owner came towards the end to help catch up so it wasn't a factor. Settling the bill was clear and concise with no hidden charges. I would most definately hire again and refer to others to use.

Great to work with. Austin put up with my crazy sleep schedule. He and his crew removed at least 11 huge tree stumps from my yard, with two of the largest being in a tight space between my house/deck and my neighbor's fence. They removed them without any damage to either structure. They completed the work in a very timely fashion, gave me fantastic advice, and even acted as contractor in finding me a company to build a fence for me. I highly recommend Overstreet Lawn Care. I will be having them return in the spring to help me with my landscaping.

Ace constructed a desk, hutch, and technology center table/ cabinet for our home office. He arrived early and he arrived prepared with a wealth of tools. The final products are sturdy and seamless in their connecting parts. It was amazing to watch him build the furniture from scratch (there were so many pieces in a box). It was my first time using his services and it will not be my last. He assured me that he can assemble large items out of the box, and he was absolutely right!

He's very humble, with awesome work ethics and provided excellent services for my family on two separate occasions. One where he did some light paint job around our house and the other was when he mounted my tv on the wall and assemble my son's bed. I was very pleased with Celise's work and would definitely recommend him to anyone.

Where to start! I feel like we've gained an outdoor landscaping partner for the long haul. We had a huge tree fall in our yard from our neighbors house this spring. (we live close to Virginia Highlands) It destroyed the front yard. We were looking to re-do the front flower beds anyway and then realized after this we needed an entirely new lawn. We got multiple quotes for a full sod restoration. (changed from fescue to Zoysia) Working with Nelson and his entire team at Legacy Outdoor Living was an absolute pleasure! It's rare to find a company that communicates well from start to finish in the landscaping business. Outdoor stuff does not always go as planned but Nelson did a good job being in constant contact as we dealt with the natural ebbs and flows of the calendar due to weather, etc. Nelson spent a lot of time with us on the front end of the project discussing vision, time frame, expectations, etc. He was quick on his quote turnaround and was sensitive to all of our requests, including budget. (Legacy is very reasonable and we feel were the best value out of all the quotes we got) - plus you get what you pay for and these guys are well worth it! We had them take out all the existing destroyed fescue, replace with Zoysia and also take out all of our old and dying trees, shrubs and plants in our plant beds lining the house. The new yard and plant beds look exceptional! One thing Nelson will really try to work hard on, is helping you build out a yard that looks great, but is also manageable for a person without a "green" thumb- My wife and I are now excited about taking care of our new lawn as opposed to being intimidated by all the previous work needed to tend to an "over planted" front yard. (prior owner's doing) We cannot wait to use Legacy later this year on the back yard project! Nacho is awesome as well! Great to work with! Sincerely, HK A happy "in-town" Atlanta customer!

Tom and his crew were awesome. His communication with us about start date and estimated finish was seamless. He is very professional, skilled, and meticulous with his work. He started by quoting us for backsplash, then paint, then deck repair, then tile repair...We let him do all of it!!!! Everything looks amazing and his pricing is very reasonable. We are about to hire him again to build a stand alone deck for our yard. You will not be disappointed with Tom!

PERFECT EXPERIENCE!! I'm an extremely happy customer! I'm an interior designer who is very hard to please, but I didn't have this problem working with Gabriella, Fernando and Juan. They met and exceeded my expectations with customer service, design ideas and work quality. They delivered " customer satisfaction" My kitchen was all brown and I decided to have it painted since the cabinets were good. They gave me competitive pricing plus ideas so I choose them. They removed all my cabinet doors, hinges and sliders. They caulked and sprayed my cabinet doors at their shop. They then, covered my appliances and sprayed by cabinet cases to perfection! They then installed new hinges and sliders plus the new doors. I am extremely happy and will share their contact info with everyone who is interested in building/restoring furniture or kitchen cabinets. They also build EXCELLENT furniture. Whatever, it is, they can build it to perfection. Lastly, I must say, they gave me EXCELLENT attitudes and was easy to work with.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
