Carlos showed up on time to install an electrical receptacle and cable outlet above our fireplace. His helper Jose did a fantastic job repairing the drywall and matching our paint in the living room after the installation. Carlos also mounted our TV bracket and installed the TV above our fireplace. He was extremely professional and courteous. We experienced an electrical issue after the installation and Carlos was more than willing and came back out the very next day to replace a bad existing receptacle that was causing the issue. I would definitely recommend him as well as contact him for later projects as well.

We are changing my 95 year old Mother’s bedroom into the guest bedroom. With the room needing some drywall work contacted some companies for quote on drywall and painting. The first company that came out quoted $579 for drywall repair and $259 per wall to paint. A friend suggested we check out Thumbtack. We contacted companies and the first to do quote was CDJ. The quote was reasonable, able to start immediately and the BONUS – the job was completed in one day, both the drywall and painting were excellent and minimal disruption during the process (major concern with caring for elderly Mother in the home). We will use this company again for other projects. I gave Doug and his crew the impossible job of repainting my entire 1600 square foot condo, repairing many, many drywall issues, taking down wallpaper and covering dark and metallic paint. Not only was his estimate the lowest, he got it done in 5 days! The condo looks perfect!!! This is the only company that I will ever use. Not only are they fast and professional, Doug is a genuinely nice guy!

Franklin did a great job replacing the drywall in the ceiling of our garage at our rental property. His price was very reasonable. We also appreciated how he stayed in touch with us while during the job to let us know what was happening. We will definitely use him again.

The response time with Turbo Clean USA is wonderful. They were able to pick up debris from a construction project in less than 24 hours! To top that off, everything was cleaned to the point that you would never suspect broke drywall was on the floor. I would absolutely hire them again for future debris removal!

Alan came into our home to work on an extensive Drywall project which included replacement of all ceiling drywall, finishing, painting, texturing and second-pass re-work of any areas requiring additional work. Alan was then further hired to complete post-construction patch work on drywall damaged from other construction projects. We were so impressed with his work, demeanor, work ethic, timeliness, cost, and reliability that we asked him to complete trim work throughout the house at a later date. I cannot recommend Alan highly enough. If you have a project requiring his skills, he is the person you want to complete it.

Jairo was very pleasant when he came to give me an estimate on replacing the drywall on the ceiling of my guest room, which had water damage. He gave an estimate, and although I mentioned I had someone else coming to check as well, he didn’t push. Turns out, he had the better price and could do all of the work in one day. The water damage had me freaked out, but he fixed it so easily, and made the process so smooth. I’m planning to use Jairo for other services around my house.

As the name says, Rafael does all work-painting, flooring, plumbing and electrical. Quality of work is excellent and price affordable cheaper than most other agencies. Committed and dedicated to the work and understood all issues including the fact that I have a baby at home and took care not to disturb normal life. I would hire Rafael for all my works and very happy customer

I had 3 companies provide estimates for attic insulation. Phiil was the only one that addressed my needs. I did not need my house sealed for $8000 or just blown I insulation without sealing anything. Phil sealed all gaps in the attic, installed knew-wall insulation , blew in a lot of insulation to get an R49 rating and also installed all accessible outlets with electric switch sealers on all outside walls to reduce draft and heat loss. The outlet seal is a nice extra. He left me extra sealers for additional outlets I could seal myself after moving some furniture. Phil was on time ( even a little early on the day of install which I appreciated) and the crew was nice. They did a great job and I can highly recommend his services.

I recently hired Luis from Sierra Handyman to finish a project in my basement. We were putting in a kitchen for our in-laws and realized quickly that it was a task better given over to the professionals. Luis was prompt and gave us a great estimate for the work required. We had him run new plumbing for the sink, install cabinets and countertops, as well as lay flooring. He completed some drywall work and came up with a great solution in getting rid of the outdated drop tile ceiling and put in a tray ceiling for us. You can hardly tell it's a room in the basement! He was respectful of our time frame and did a great job! Exactly what we envisioned. Will work with him again on additional projects for our home.

The insulation installer was prompt, professional and courteous. The house was for sale and under contract, so time and precision was important. He even took extra care to clean up any debris from the attic and make sure the area was spotless and free from insulation debris.

Luis provided exceptional quality and service when helping me get my house ready to go on the market. He replaced rotted wood around 3 doors frames, painted and replaced wood on the porch and put up a new ceiling fan. At times I would ask him to do other things around the house and he would do them with no hesitation. I truly appreciate everything he did and will definitely use him again!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

    • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
    • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

    • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
    • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
    • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
