Introduction: It is not enough to simply accept the project with an author. I first want to see whether we are a good match in terms of where the characters are headed, who they are, their motives, etc. This is how I get a feel for the story and whether or not I can do it justice. Meeting the author; getting to know the writer is key to how I approach editing the project. Some writers are very specific about what they want and what they don't want. A face-to-face meeting or at least a phone conversation (if they are in another state) helps us to bond or not.
