I highly recommend Jontell with Ransburg Maintenance. What started off as a request to fix 2 faucets that were left leaking by a prior contractor turned in o fixing 2 faucets, adding shower heads, attaching washer and dryer hook ups, and adding a ceiling fixture. He is timely, and explains any issue that you may have. I would recommend anyone to Jontell that needs a handy guy! His prices are reasonable and he guarantees his work!

Kris replaced couple of our 14 years old water heaters. Initially I thought about getting the heaters myself from HD/Lowes and just hire a contractor for installation, but then decided to go with Kris since his pricing included Rheem Professional series water heater, expansion tank, new ball valve, gas flex line, labor, code and also removal of old water heaters. He presented upgrade options for the tank but didn't upsell it. He has done a very thorough job and no surprises. Would definitely hire him for other plumbing needs.

We discovered a leak in a hot water heater yesterday morning. On the recommendation of our HVAC contractor, I went on Thumbtack and looked for highly rated plumbers. Derek responded within a matter of minutes, we went over the parameters of the job and he gave me a competitative quote. Most importantly, he was able to be at the house in less than 24 hours and completed the job without a hitch. While he was here, he was able to fix a leaking toilet too! He was very pleasant, thorough and we were extremely happy with his work. I would definitely recommend him to anyone needing a plumber for large and/or small jobs. Gil Sandy Springs, GA

My backdoor threshold was rotten and needed to be replaced. All other contractors indicated that I would have to order a new door, but Mr. Wilkins said he could replace the damaged wood and reseal it. He quoted a fair price and was able to schedule the job quickly. Due to some of the water damage, my wood floor needed repair as well. I had some extra pieces and he was able to replace the floor too. Work was done in a few hours. I am really happy with the work performed.

Hunter did a fantastic job. He dropped what he was doing on a Saturday to help me deal with a leak and still charged me a very reasonable price. I’d have paid double if I went with one of the big plumbing companies. He was very knowledgeable and took care of the issue quickly. I’ll definitely use him again.

Elmer was on time and fixed our sink. He brought shoe covers, which my wife appreciated. He added a coupler to the pipe beneath the sink to make it easier for me to fix my clogs in the future. He did some extra work, which he charged for, but in the end the entire job (fixing the clog, snaking before and after the clean out, snaking all the way to the city sewer line, degreasing the pipes, ) ended up costing the same as what the everyone else was quoting just to fix the clog. Saving his number for future jobs.

After having three plumbing contractors come to my house prior to Vince, I started to get frustrated. Vince was very professional and had the best price! He did a phenomenal job installing a brand new bathroom in my basement. Don’t hesitate on booking him. It’s finally nice to find someone reliable in Atlanta. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

Although technically the plumbing job was not an emergency (sewerage was not pouring onto the floor), I could not use any toilets or take a shower until the job was done. Others were all saying they could not give me an estimate until they arrived. I have had this clogged toilet issued repeatedly and knew precisely what had to be done. Pipe DreamZ Water and Sewer delayed less urgent customers in order to come to my home at 7:00 pm to clear the line. The price matched the estimate given. Both of us were satisfied. Others who said "You never know what it could be" just irritated me. Further, Pipe Dreamz suggested 3 solutions that would prevent this from recurring. 1 - use CHEAP toilet paper that breaks up quicker and easier in the long pipe that runs horizonally the length of the house. That will SAVE me money. 2. Flush twice - Kind of defeating the purpose of the darned low-flow toilets. 3. If that does not work, since this problem started when I had to replace the original toilets with low-flow toilets, he suggested I upgrade to toilets that flush with more power. That would cost perhaps $800 but would put a end to these clogs. This guy is a true professional (and a really nice person)!

Dan did an outstanding job taking what we thought was a complex and potentially impossible project and making it a reality. From the first site visit, he not only envisioned it a possibility, he made it happen. Our home had an unfinished and unused bonus room upstairs next to attic space that was not reachable except through a hole in a closet. Many other contractors told us it was not possible, and if it was, the options were not reasonable or very expensive. Dan saw the potential, he made it happen and created over 800 sq ft of livable space for us upstairs. Dan’s professionalism and integrity is without question a breath of fresh air. His team was very friendly and professional the quality of the work speaks to Dan’s leadership and experience. We are very happy with our new space and we will be working with Dan again on other future projects. We highly recommend Dan and Projects Unlimited!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often do you clean a septic tank?

For homeowners with a septic system, it’s important to have a regular septic cleaning schedule. To protect ground and drinking water, the Environmental Protection Agency recommends residential septic cleaning every three years. Many septic system companies state that you can maintain a healthy system with regular septic cleanings every three to five years. In addition to cleaning, a septic tank inspection once a year will uncover problems and can save you thousands in cleanup and repair.

When waste goes into your septic system, it separates into three parts. The solids (sludge) drop to the bottom, wastewater floats in the middle, and a layer of scum rises to the top. Regularly scheduled cleanings prevent the sludge in your septic tank from building up and clogging your tank, leading to an overflow. Pricing for a standard septic cleaning ranges between $200 and $500, with the national average cost at $315. It’s easier, more cost-effective, and better for your home health to keep your septic tank maintained.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

Who pumps septic tanks?

Septic system professionals pump septic tanks. Pros in different states will have different licensing and certification regulations. Make sure the company you hire is licensed and certified, is a legitimate business, and has the appropriate insurance. Damage to your septic system could cost thousands of dollars in cleanup and repair, so it’s best to hire a qualified professional from the start.

Using an industrial-strength vacuum hose connected to a tanker truck, the septic tank company will pump out the contents of your tank. First they break up the scum of the top layer, then mix the sludge (on the bottom) into the wastewater for removal. To get all the sludge and scum from the tank, pros may use a tool called a septage spoon that loosens stubborn waste from the sides of the tank. After the tank is hosed down and empty, it is inspected for any cracks or leaks that could lead to trouble in the future. The waste in the truck is then transported and disposed of at a waste management treatment center, a cesspool or an approved dumping site.

When should you clean a septic system?

Experts agree that you should clean your septic system every three to five years for optimal system health and safe water. You should also have it inspected every year to catch minor issues before they become major. If you think you may be overdue for a septic cleaning, here are signs that you should call a pro immediately.

  • You’re at capacity: If the bottom of the scum layer is within six inches of the bottom of the tank’s outlet or if the top of the sludge layer is within 12 inches of the outlet, your tank needs to be pumped, according to the EPA.
  • It stinks: If you can smell wastewater, call a pro right away to clean your tank, pipes and field.
  • Sewage backup: Raw sewage backing up into the pipes in your home is no fun. The pros can pump out your pipes, clean your tanks and clear any clogs, but it will be a complex and messy job.
  • Pooling water: Water collecting around your tank or drain field can be a sign you need to clean your septic system.
  • Super grass: If the grass above your septic system drain field suddenly gets vibrantly green and lush, the septic tank leak could be leaking sewage and fertilizing your lawn in unwanted ways. Call a pro to inspect it right away.

How much is it to clean a septic tank?

Nobody wants their septic tank to back up. Regular septic cleaning and pumping is important to keep your ground and drinking water protected from harmful bacteria. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends septic system cleaning every three years. The national average cost for a septic tank specialist is $315. Costs for septic cleaning may vary based on where you live, how large your septic tank is, and how long it has been since the last cleaning. If it’s been many years since you’ve had your tank cleaned, the process of breaking up and removing the solids may take longer and could cost more. Typical residential septic tanks range in size from 1,000 to 2,500 gallons. The price range for septic cleaning usually averages $200-$500, with varying by tank size. Repairs or replacement parts will also add to your cost. To keep your septic tank in good health between cleanings, only flush approved items such as toilet paper, and don’t rely on your garbage disposal for composting. Items that don’t break down easily (like lemon rinds or feminine hygiene products) can back up the septic system, leading to clogs and overflow. If you smell the unmistakable odor of sewage or can see sewage bubbling up above your drain field, call for a septic cleaning immediately.
