We used Next Door Relocators twice in a matter of 2 months. Once to put our furnishings from our 5 bedroom house into a storage facility and then 2 months later into our new 4 bedroom house. They were professional and didnt fool around with chattering. We especially liked the fact that nothing was broken. We would definitely use them again and have referred them to a relative moving out of state Kenneth and Irene Sears

Jeremy Green is without a doubt the most professional mover I have ever dealt with. He is well priced, knowledgeable, efficient, courteous, responsive and honest! The support staff he brought with him were also very respectful towards me and my furnishings...nothing felt harried or insufficiently handled. Great care was taken to carefully wrap and protect my furniture and my artwork. It was a long day of packing, loading, traveling out of state and unloading...ALL items arrived in PERFECT condition with Jeremy and Shevod still maintaining a positive, calm demeanor and they exhibited great care with my art and furnishings. It was a WONDERFUL experience as moving can be quite stressful. I HIGHLY recommend Big Deal Movers and I will use them in the future and recommend to all of my contacts. They are trustworthy, experienced and careful. I am absolutely delighted with the results from the move. Thank you all so very much for providing me with a stress free move!

Can't recommend Deitric with DA Lowe Movers Highly Enough for my Long Distance Move!! They were beyond Awesome from Start to Finish. They (3 movers) arrived Saturday Morning at my Apartment in Johns Creek, GA and had it packed up in LESS then an hour, they then drove to Tampa, Fl and met me there 7 hours later, they then unpacked and had my new apartment set up in less then an hour! I was completely move from one state to another in less then 10 Hours! Deitric quoted me his price (which was the lowest of all my quotes) and didn't charge me a penny more! So grateful for my experience with DA Lowe Movers and how painless they made this move. They are simply the BEST!!!

I was very pleased with the guys from 3 guys and a truck. They arrived on time and and started working immediately. They handled my furniture and belongings with care and situated everything perfectly in my storage unit. My rate was very reasonable to move me across state lines. I will definitely use them again and recommend them for your next move. Thanks JR and Will!

Diendre came to review and provide an estimate followed by Sharon with the quote. On the day of the move, Mervin, Kenneth and Joseph showed up. The surveyed the work, talked to me about their plans and then set about getting the job done professionally. They asked questions, made recommendations and worked as we directed them to. They dis-assembled my Furniture efficiently and didn’t loose a screw. In my new house, they saw new floors and immediately realized that they have to cover the floors. The moves my items in very carefully to make sure they were clean as possible and then cleaned up after that. This the first move I have had where everything went as I had wanted and it came in at the original estimate. For a local city move I would go with them.

I just relocated to douglasville from another state. I had made arrangements for another moving company to unload my belongings from the trailer. When that company did not show up, i went to thumbtack and found in and out movers. Carlos, called me within 15 minutes. He assured me that he could be to me within an hour and his prices were outstanding. Orlando and jay arrived to my new apartment in one hour as promised and they had the best attitude. Both guys were friendly and very hard working. My move was truly a last minute, same day order for them, and they treated me as though i was a long term client. They hauled my things up three flights of stairs and smiled the entire time while doing so. They worked hard, when i asked what could i do to help, they said "tell me where to put it and we'vegot the rest." That they did. Even when i asked them to move something twice they did! In and out movers turned a nightmare into a daydream. Thank you carlos, orlando and jay.......

Tate the Great was GREAT! From my first conversation with Thomas where he broke down the costs to the move itself, we couldn't have been happier with what can be a very stressful experience. Thomas provided outstanding customer service. Having moved many times before and being hit with hidden charges, we were very satisfied with how well he communicated the charges beforehand and was happy to answer our questions. Come moving day, Eddie and his three man crew arrived on time and worked hard taking great care with our stuff. We would use Tate the Great again and would definitely recommend them.

Tony provided great work and his rate was very reasonable. He assembled a lot of Ikea furniture for my daughter who was moving into a house. The other roommates parents ended up hiring him for their projects also. He did a great job and was very professional and nice. Would highly recommend, and we will be using him again.

When you are faced with the task of moving out of state you have a huge decision on choosing a moving company. With a short timeline our time to research the options was brief. The moment we started talking with Ronnie we just knew he was the one. He is professional, articulate and committed to providing excellent service. His quote was quite reasonable and did not change on moving day. He stayed in communication throughout the process. On moving day he and his crew could not have been better. The guys were every bit as good as Ronine promised. He himself, did the move and unpacked us with one other team member at our new home without a hitch. Not one item was damaged or treated roughly. We fully recommend Ronnie and his company to anyone who wants a safe and successful move. We have already recommended him to a neighbor and family members.

Jason and Chris were fantastic! My husband and I had to arrange a quick move to another state for work and they made a stressful process so much easier. On top of the convenience, they loaded our items with care and were a joy to interact with, just don't make them drink sparkling water. :)

They were punctual and overall good. There were no surprises in pricing. Be aware,On top of the $ per hour there is $125 for staircase , per location (our old apartment was on 1st floor, new was in a high rise with elevator, so we paid $125). Also there was about $100 state and fed tax which I am not sure we paid addition to hourly charges when we moved two times before in the last year. Again, we knew about this when we booked service. Overall good.

The guys were great! We had a somewhat difficult move today (moving from two apartments on different floors), but the crew was very accommodating. Brandon, the supervisor, was friendly and helpful throughout the entire process. Unloading was the quickest part. I was surprised with how fast it was done with only two men. Hire these guys. They did an awesome job and I'd recommend them to anyone.

I relocated my family and I used Pick Up Movers for the move. I found them through a moving website and emailed them. They responded within 10 minutes and it took another 30 minutes to finalize a quote. We were moving from one state to another. The moving team didn’t break anything. They said not to worry about placing them at our new place. They cleaned up everything and were very efficient. I was very happy with their service and would recommend them to all.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
