Unprofessional. I used Thumbtack to get some estimates on website redesign. I was able to get 3 other quotes without having a meeting. I sent EMG the same information that I sent to others, and was asked to meet. Considering many companies were reaching out, I was not holding meetings before narrowing down the potential web designers (because who would have time to meet with 20 people?). I explained that I just needed a quote and was ok with going elsewhere if they weren't able to do that. The response was "I don’t work like this. Sucks Thumbtack charged me almost $400 for this lead." Yeah..no thank you. I will never do business with someone who blames the potential client for their inability to meet the client's needs. but as you said, "BEST WISHES!"

I understand how this prospect feels but was I wrong for requesting a meeting to get more details on a potential job that I didn't quite fully understand? Should I have just given a quote when I wasn't clear on what all the project entailed? Did I truly deserve a 1 star because I expressed how dissatisfied I was that Thumbtack (not the prospect) charged me almost $400 for a prospect who wouldn't meet me halfway about a project she needed done? I didn't work with this prospect obviously but apparently she feels justified in giving me a 1 star because I expressed my dissatisfaction at thumbtack for charging me so much money for an uncooperative prospect. This is my first 1 star in almost 2 and a half years. That says a lot about my professionalism, character and attitude with my prospects. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricing: Marketing services for contractors begin at $1500 plus ad spend. Typically our clients will spend at least $2k/month and generate at least $10/m in profit on the low conservative end. We do 12-month agreements. We've found that contractors that commit to our strategy for at least a period of 12 months see the best results.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We have two calls basically. One is what we call an introductory call. This is usually just a quick 15-minute call to really learn a lot more about your business and see if we can help you in the first place. If we determine that we can help you, then we'll book you into a video call where we'll both be able to see each other and we'll delve deep into our strategy to catapult your business to fresh and new heights.
