Had a great move. Really glad I did not have to do all that heavy lifting. The guys worked hard for 8 hours and got it done. I felt like it was money well spent. The office staff is responsive and very professional.

Excellent movers. The guys were quick, courteous, and definitely knew what they were doing. I will definitely hire them again - for moving, odd jobs, painting, and heavy lifting when I rearrange the house.

My husband and I hired taggabox to handle the heavy items of furniture for our move. Brandon and Marvin did a great job handling the items carefully and did not damage the walls of either house. We are very pleased with their work and would hire them again. We also recommend them for your move. We thought the rate was quite reasonable for the work we requested.

Mr Carlos came to our help when our current mover ditched us on the day of the move which was also the last day of our apartment lease. We are very happy that Mr. Carlos agreed to do the move on the same day. His men reached our place in just 45 minutes after we hired him and they had us complete the move for 1 BHK (we had some really heavy moving to do) in less than 2 hours, which was exceptional! It was very good experience working with Mr. Carlos and we would really recommend him to anyone who needs good men for the move. He is a definitely a go to guy.

Awesome dudes. They did all of our heavy lifting, moving from a ground floor apartment to a third floor apartment, and did it super fast. Great price and a great experience overall.

We had a great experience with Jasean and his team. We had to move the entire contents of my condo, which contained a lot of delicate glass furniture and a pair of really heavy wardrobes. They made it happen even with the obstacle course of the narrow hallways and tiny elevators in my condo unit. Great services provided.

Eddie, Shahid, Zane, and Jair were fantastic! We moved a full household plus a storage unit to a 3 story home in 6 hours. This included a 45 minute commute between the houses. These 4 gentlemen worked extremely hard, were very friendly, and made the moving experience as painless as possible. We needed to schedule a move on short notice and were able to schedule a Sunday move the previous Wednesday. Thomas informed us that our start time would be 10 a.m. and all 4 guys showed up promptly at 9:55 a.m. ready to work. We had several heavy items that needed to be moved - we asked them to exchange washer/dryers, which meant moving them from upstairs in the old house to upstairs in the new house and bringing the old W/D set downstairs from the new house. They also moved two large couches, a refrigerator, a heavy desk, along with several other large items. We're happy to say that every item made it to our new house without any damage! I would highly recommend Tate the Great Moving Company. Our movers were professional, courteous, funny, and a pleasure to work with. It was worth every penny!

They are amazing!!!! I bought a washer and dryer from my friend who was moving out of town. There was no way two of us lifting and carrying heavy machines so I requested Aikins Moving for help! They booked me right away, arrived on time, wrapped them really carefully (it was raining outside but there was no problem!) Not only did they help us moving but also they helped me setting up (We had to replace the cord for the dryer and they helped me getting the tray for the washer!) Total price was generous for what they did. I would definitely recommend Aikins Moving and I will like to use them again when I move out from my current place!! ?????

I can't begin to say how pleased I was with the service I received from 2brothers! They were very professional in their dress and the way they conducted business. It all started with the initial call to make the reservation.Tashell was polite and very knowledgeable. She asked the right questions and took a complete inventory room by room. She was able to provide a recommendation based on the information provided and gave me a good quote. Micah did a full inventory when he arrived at my home as well. They had a system in place and began preparing for the move immediately. They shrink wrapped my furniture to protect it and padded it. They were careful to prevent damages to my home while moving the heavy items. There was no delaying the move with idle behavior. They worked efficiently and communicated well. Every person had a specific role to play. I must commend Dwayne who packed the truck for the move and my storage unit upon arrival. This is quite a task and it was handled with superior quality. It was very well thought it to ensure that there was no damage while transporting or during storage. 2Brothers moving is a professional company and I would highly recommend them if you are moving. I will definitely use them again when I am ready to move my things out of storage. Thanks to Micah, Dwayne, Jalen, Paul, and Pete for a great moving experience. God Bless!

nothing short of excellent. they are prompt, courteous, effective, efficient and fairly priced. After having them do a great deal of heavy lifting, inhouse furniture moving and trash runs, I was so pleased that I awarded them contracts to cut down and remove some tree, repair patio screening, and they will be installing two ceiling fans and Painting a large, paneled bedroom for me. I would recommend them to anyone.

I was really nervous hiring Pros with only a couple reviews. I was referred to this company by a close friend of mind who told me to "Ask for Bernard to do your move". After contacting Kmaps, a young lady by the name of Rosa explained that Bernard would be completing another move today but insured me that she would send the best. Nervous as hell, I agreed! Carlos and his crew showed up on time and there 1st impression was everything! 100% comfortable within first 10mins! They carfully pad my furniture, laughed and joked with me the entire time. No damage and very good attitudes. Honestly it's entertaining how they move all this heavy furniture and keep a smile the whole time. All in all from Rosa in office to Carlos and crew This Was Surprisingly My Best Moving Experience

Great experience. I hired 3 guys with a "small" truck (it was 23' long, ha!), and estimated it'd take 4 hours. Their rate was substantially lower than the bigger name companies around Atlanta, and they finished 90 minutes early! I was impressed and pleased with how hard working and courteous the guys work, and I'd happily hire them again. The only caution I would give is that they seemed like they were nearly overbooked. The crew who helped me (led by Darius) were doing three jobs that day, mine being the second. They busted their humps getting my heavy lifting stuff done, helped me set-up one piece of furniture, and then hit the road. This was GREAT for me... I can do all the other stuff myself, and I prefer not to pay someone to do it. But some people want/expect the kind of move where they help you arrange the furniture, plug in the lamps and unpack some essential boxes. These guys' scheduling doesn't really leave room for that... But I can't imagine them saying "no" if a customer asked them to do it, which might leave a later-scheduled customer up the creek. So my advice to prospective customers would be: 1- book them as early in the day as possible, to remove the risk that an earlier customer will run-over and screw up your schedule 2- don't expect or count on them to help you do lots of unpacking (and if you do ask on-the-spot, remember you're probably screwing up someone else's moving day) All in all though, 5 stars easy.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
