Scott was great to work with on my 24 tree/bush project. He was very professional, took his time assessing the project, and priced very fairly. He was the last of 4 tree services that I met with and I am glad I did. He showed me his insurance information in writing and worked with a great subcontractor, Speciality Stump Grinding to finish the work after the trees were down.

NB Landscape was responsive and professional. The price was affordable. However, they did leave a lawn bag where they cut the grass, but I will remind them that the grass and trash related to the cut must be hauled away because the community does not have lawn trash removal. And, they cut/pruned my trees and bushes, but they missed one tree. I will continue to use the company and make send an email about the trash haul and the tree missed. They accept payments via online, and they sent an estimate in a timely manner. We agreed to a regular two-week cut, and I requested them to fill-in a hole that has developed on the property. So far, I am pleased.

Lucio went above and beyond with the tree cutting project! He was very professional, turned up on time, courteous and above all was very attentive to details. He took additional time in cleaning up the area very thoroughly. It felt like Lucio didn't do this as just another job, but he spent concentrated time and effort to ensure that he did an excellent job and he definitely over delivered! And the price that he charged was very reasonable. It was a true pleasure to have Lucio take up our project and it was a positive experience. I would recommend Lucio for any landscaping/tree trimming projects without any hesitation.

Great job. We were so fortunate to have found TREE SQUAD.tree squad were always on our side working to make sure our project was done to our taste. The best part about working with them was that, they were always more focused on answering our questions, giving us good advice, and doing quality work needed than was on closing a deal. We would recommend them to anyone.

I worked with All Pro Tree Service to cut down a tree in the backyard of my rental property and I was very impressed with the job they did. Their communication, the cleanup, and most importantly their quote. I had a second company go out prior to them and Allpro's quote came in exceptionally better! I have worked with several tree removal companies in GA and they are hands down one of the best! Thanks for everything!

Dale gave me a great quote right away and came out the same day. He was very professional and offered suggestions which i took up on his advice and did more to my yard. His prices are very reasonable for the work he does. He used his bobcat to remove all shrubs and small trees. Then leveled out the areas and removed all debris. He then came back and placed pavers and mulch in the project areas. I am using him again for another project.

Nothing but superlatives for Greer's Tree Service. From initial contact through cleanup, Justin was professional, respectful and attentive. I'm an attorney and notice the details. During each step of the process, I watched him and his team work. He took enormous pride in doing things right. Communication, professional admin, and the work itself, all A+. I plan on using Justin Greer for future tree work without hesitation. Russell B. Acworth, GA.

Our home has better curb appeal with the tree that was trimmed in the front and the tree trimmed on the side looks great as well. The squirrels no longer have convenient access to the roof. I'd recommend this company to anyone.

Mr. Crawford was knowledgeable, $ reasonable, professional, and completed the project within the needed timeframe. I needed my side and back yard redone. He resurfaced areas, added topsoil, placed sod and seeded. In addition, he pruned some trees and placed pine straw. I appreciate his attention to detail....he watered the yard and told me when, how long, and how often to water. I will definitely use him for additional projects!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
