This is the first time I'm giving someone 5 star review prior to the completion of the job. I have an old/discontinued water heater, an unusual issue. Jontell has been very honest throughout the process and gained my trust. We're still configuring the issue with my heater but I feel comfortable to count on him. He helped me understand that my heater is an old unit and the part has to be on special order. He even came out to my place after hours to ensure hot water is temporarily up and running for me. When it comes to this type of services, I've encountered too many people who just wanted to take the money and not follow through. However, Jontell has been very professional and honest with me. The part to fix my water heater has been ordered and Jontell ensured he will do the installation again at no cost. I understand unusual situation like this happens in this business. We're dealing with electrical and sometimes it's just out of human's hands. However, I'm confident to count on Jontell to complete this job. No wonder he has over 100 positive reviews! He sure will have my future business as well as references to my friends. If you are looking for a knowledgeable, honest plumber who won't scam you and get the job done, you've got the right person here!

Very Honest! Super knowledgeable! Saved me over $700!! I thought, and was told by other plumbers, that I needed a brand new water heater. But after Keith came and did his diagnosis, for FREE I might add, he informed me that I could save money by just replacing some parts (i don't remember what the parts were called) and repairing the water heater instead of replacing it. I can't tell you how refreshing it is to have someone be honest about what you truly need instead of trying to sell you something expensive just to make money!

Fred was the first one to respond to my request for a hot water heater replacement. He took the time to explain what I needed to do to stop the water from continuing to flood the garage. He also explained what I needed to know to purchase the right water heater for replacement (height, width, etc). He gave me information on what causes water heaters to deteriorate and how to minimize that in the future (by draining the water heater at least annually). Fred came over immediately to start the water heater removal process and went to Home Depot with me to assist me in purchasing a new one and all the components that were needed for the install. It is obvious that Fred is a very knowledgeable and skilled plumber. He did a fantastic job from beginning to end. His pricing was more than reasonable. I would definitely hire Fred again and can also highly recommend him as a first choice for your plumbing needs.

Derek with Georgia Master Plumbing was absoluty exceptional! We discovered that our water heater was leaking early on a saturday morning. Derek responded to our request for help immediately, provided an impressive quote with a high quality water heater included, and answered a ton of helpful questions throughout the course of the weekend. He offered to come out immediately but his supplier was closed until Monday. We priced comparable water heaters at our local home supply store and Derek's price for what he offered just coulsnr be matched. We set up an appointment with him for Monday evening and he helped us to find a temporary solution in the meantime. Derek arrive on time on the day of our appointment. He was courteous, knowledgable, and quick! He installed our new (and improved!) water heater and removed and hauled away the old one in no time. We will definitely use Georgia Master Plumbing in the future for any plumbing needs that arise and will tell others to do the same!

While he did get the system going, it's surprising that he didn't have a wet vac with him, since that is used frequently . I had to get someone else to come with a vac the next day and suck out the water from the system.

I had a couple of well known plumbing companies come out. They were outrageously priced, so I googled other companies and hot water solutions came up. they were able to install a new water heater the same day. I was very pleased with the service I received and the reasonable price. Pleasantly surprised to find out that they do other plumbing work as well, even though they specialize in water heaters. They'll be my go to from now on.

Kingdom Plumbing in Marietta is fantastic. I contacted Shannon with a horrible plumbing issue that occurred one evening at my rental property. I was pleasantly surprised and shocked that Shannon answered my call being that it was late in the evening. He immediately came to the location and did a thorough job repairing the water issue. He was very professional and the work was an A+. One of the most rewarding aspects of working with Kingdom Plumbing (Shannon) is their competitive prices. I am very pleased with the company and will definitely continue using them in the future. Thanks, Melinda

I can't say enough about Freddie! He was so responsive when I submitted my request very early in the morning when I realized my water heater had gone out. His initial price for an install of a 50g gas water heater was $200 lower than the next plumber. Yes, while a lower price is always attractive, service is just as important. Based off the reviews Freddie had (about 4 since he just started with Thumbtack), I felt like Freddie was the type of plumber I could trust. I'm glad I went with my gut because Freddie blew away my expectations. He was so honest and his work was top notch. The value of what he provides is nothing like you'll get elsewhere. He installed my tankless water heater and his price was AMAZING. Freddie will be my go-to plumber from now on. If you don't pick him for your plumbing needs, you are making a huge mistake.

I am very pleased with prompt, thorough and professional service. What I thought was just a leaky faucet ended up being a bigger issue with my water tank. Without Plumb Medic’s service I probably would have been in a world of trouble down the line.

Roni and his team were amazing. They came out very quickly assess the work needed, gave me a very fair and competitive quote and finished the work within the week. They repaired some plumbing to fix water pressure issues, installed crown molding, added door casings to my home, painted trim and install a pedestal sink including drywall repair. I will definitely be using Roni and his team for any future home repairs needed. He was considerate of my family's time and ensured he cleaned up after each day of work.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long is a water heater supposed to last?

Your water heater is an essential part of your home, heating water for showers, dishwashing, laundry and more. On average, a traditional water heater will last 8-12 years. The general consensus is that it’s better to replace your water heater with a new one than to repair one that’s 10 years old or more. Older models are less energy-efficient and thus more costly to run than newer models with better technology. Here are some indicators of when it may be time to replace an old water heater instead of repairing it:

  • Leaks: If leaking is not caused by loose connections, the water may be seeping out through slight fractures in the metal of the tank that have formed over time.
  • Strange noises: Clanking, rumbling and other noises can mean that sediment has formed on the base of your tank, contributing to fissures leaks, and inefficiency.
  • Age: If it’s more than 10 years old, it’s probably time to replace.
  • Discolored or rusty water: Have a pro check it out; if the problem isn’t resolved by draining and cleaning, you’ll want to replace the heater.
  • Lack of hot water: Inconsistent heating and hot water supply that runs out too quickly likely means it’s time for a new unit.

When is it time to replace a water heater?

Although regular water heater maintenance and water heater repair may extend the life of your hot water heater, it won’t last forever. Most water heaters have a life expectancy of about 10 years. Many water heaters need to be replaced when they’re 8-12 years old — that’s when they start to show signs of fatal wear, such as leaking around the base of the tank. A water heater should be replaced when it fails to sufficiently heat water for the home; if your heater is operating erratically, check first for a blown fuse or a tripped breaker to make sure an electrical issue isn’t causing the problem. Another time to replace a water heater is when you want to upgrade to either a larger model or a more energy-efficient one.

Why is my hot water not working?

The most common complaint among homeowners is that their hot water isn’t working — and the water heater is generally the culprit. Typically, it isn’t making the water as hot as you’d like it to be. When the water isn’t hot enough — or isn’t hot at all — run through this troubleshooting checklist for basic water heater repair tasks:

  • Make sure the power is connected to the heater, then reset the thermostat.
  • If it’s a gas water heater, make sure the pilot light is lit.
  • Raise the temperature setting on the thermostat.

If these stops don’t lead to hot water, it’s time to either check the heating element in an electric water heater or the burner unit and gas control valve in a gas-powered heater. A water heater repair and maintenance company can handle these repair jobs. However, if your hot water heater is eight years or older, it may be time to replace the water heater instead of repairing it.

Who can fix a water heater?

When a water heater stops running effectively, it’s best to hire a water heater repair professional to troubleshoot the problem. Whether it’s a plumbing company that offers water heater repair services or a provider specializing in water heater repair and maintenance, most repair companies offer same-day service as well as weekend and after-hours emergency calls. Usually, water heater repair professionals are experts in both electric and gas systems, as well as tank and tankless heaters, and can repair any kind of unit.

Why is the water in my house not getting hot?

If the water in your house is not getting hot, it may be time for water heater repair. Nationally, the average water heater repair cost ranges between $120 and $200, although prices can range up to $400, depending on the problem and materials. Competent homeowners may also be able to try DIY fixes, whether they have a traditional gas or electric water heater or a tankless gas or electric heater. Troubleshooting the different issues that can arise with each of the styles requires some knowledge of how they operate and what red flags to look out for. For a natural gas water heater, the first step is to check whether the pilot light has gone out. It’s important to follow the manufacturer’s directions if you want to relight it yourself. If you smell gas, stop everything and call your gas company — the smell could signal a dangerous gas leak. If your household’s water is not getting hot enough, you can try increasing the temperature on the water heater’s front dial above the standard setting of 120 degrees; for safety, always turn off electricity to the unit before adjusting temperatures. If you keep running out of hot water, your household may simply need a higher-capacity water heater, so consider upgrading. Quick professional fixes include replacing the thermostat or heating elements and cleaning and repairing the thermocouple.
