"Scott is one of the most thorough and skilled massage therapists that I’ve ever had the pleasure of benefiting from. He worked on me for several years when we lived close (about 8). He is very intuitive and proficient . His goals are that you feel better and he can come up with a plan to help you reach your physical goals. Massage has many benefits, ranging from relaxation to therapeutic and rehabilitation benefits. Over the years I have received many types of massage, from stress relief to helping me heal from an injury. Once you try Scott’s massage you’ll definitely be glad you did, and you’ll want to share his skilled hands with your family and friends. You’ll look like a hero and feel like one too. Linda"

"She is very thorough, and helped with the pain I was having on my shoulders. I definitely recommend her to help ease your pain and mental stress through massage. She also gave me some pointers on how to stretch and keep the tension from building. "

"Best massage I have ever had! Bonita is very knowledgeable about the human body and really listens to her clients. She helped me so much. I have been in pain for a long time and had many massage therapists but none as good as Bonita. I am feeling so much better!"

"I was a bit "on the fence" about pursuing a Reiki experience, however, due to my reasons for wanting to have a session in the first place, I felt I had nothing to lose. So, I didn't know what to expect when I first met Jodi. I'm so glad that I was connected with Jodi, because she is amazing! She was, fortunately able to fit me into her schedule rather quickly, which I was grateful for. Upon first meeting her, she has a very calming, reassuring presence that put me at ease. She patiently took her time to establish a rapport with me, to understand why I was there, and how she could help. We went on to have our Reiki session, and I felt the effects immediately, and in the days to follow. At the end of our session, Jodi went on to take her time to help interpret what she found, and gave me specific therapies to use to continue to help me help myself to get to a better place. I went back to see Jodi for another session since then, and plan on continuing to have more sessions with her, because I sense a true connection with her skills and abilities as a healer. I'd like to make an important point, something I had to remind myself of when seeking out a Reiki practitioner...Don't get caught up in the aesthetics of the facility that the practitioner is in, or be distracted by whether, or not the facility has a lot of "bells and whistles", shiny objects, or seemingly, the right appearance. The therapy room where I visit Jodi is in a non-descript, office park, albeit a very pleasant facility, once inside, where Jodi shares space with a chiropractor, and massage therapist. The session room is much like you'd find at any private salon, or spa, and Jodi has made it quite nice with scent, candles, calming music, etc. The most important thing, and I suppose, should be obvious, is the practitioner themselves. Jodi is amazing, and I believe she has a true talent, or gift that I am grateful for!"

"Regular massage from Amanda has been a significant part of my overall healthcare for years. In the last three years, I have had two babies and was so grateful for the massages and support she provided during each pregnancy. She was able to work well with my changing body and help address different physical issues those changes brought. I was always comfortable with her care and left each session feeling better and more centered. I cannot recommend Amanda enough."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
