Al was very responsive and came on time to fix our issue with the curtain rod. His prices are reasonable and he finished the job in a very efficient and professional manner. Would recommend him to anyone needing all sorts of handyman jobs around the house. Thanks Al.

I had mold issues in the crawl space of my rental house. Sick building group remediated the mold, replaced the air ducts and fixed the water issues. They were prompt, professional and reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend their services!

Robert did an excellent job installing custom built-in cabinetry. He was fairly priced, punctual, and detail oriented. I will look to use him for future jobs and recommend him others. Thanks!

I hired TNT to do a rebuild and re-pitch of a roof over my sun porch, delete skylights, install 2 new doors for said porch, and fix various places that had water damage around the house, to include an area under the deck that was causing the deck to pull away from the house. With that amount of work needed, and before I talked to anyone, I knew the price for the work would be in the upper thousands. I chose TNT because they had a very fair price in the middle of the range of quotes I got, and the best value for that money. One thing I encourage anyone hiring a contractor to do is make up and sign a contract with them. DO THIS with ANY contractor, and LEAVE THE DEAL if they give you a hard time about wanting a contract. Michael and TNT have a contract already made up, and you and them can add/take out whatever you want before the job even starts. Michael even told me that he really liked that I asked for a contract because it protects BOTH parties. On my end, I put in a provision that before I gave him any money, I had to have a walk around with them and let them know whether or not the work was up to my liking. This was no problem, and they would answer any questions my wife or I had, and showed us examples if needed. So, really everyone, always get a contract!! As for the work, everything looks great! Our roof actually lets water drain into our gutters instead of leaking into our sun room. Our house does not have any more holes in it from water damage or animals, and it really helped the curb appeal of the house. Most important, the deck was not just pulling away from the house the joists under our master the deck was attached to were water damaged. I was shown where all of the problems were so I could understand what was happening and how they would be corrected. It only added 1 day to the timeline, which we were glad about. The guys (mostly Michael's sons) came on time, and cleaned up after themselves everyday. We have 2 dogs who use the backyard and the gate was not left open once when they weren't there. We can't even say that about ourselves. Hopefully you have read this far down and I hope I have helped ease your mind about going with TNT. You won't regret it. Ask for the contract, make it your own, and enjoy whatever project they do for you!

We hired Tim and his team to design a custom built-in unit in our bedroom for storage including open shelving, cabinets, drawers, and a space for a TV. Overall, Tim and his team did a wonderful job. Their work is excellent and we've been enjoying the finished product immensely. They worked with us throughout the project and were very flexible as we made small changes during the process. Unfortunately, they did have a few internal hangups that caused some delays and a few scheduling hiccups. The doors and drawers needed to be resprayed more than once; there were delays due to other jobs that required me to rearrange my day around the team; communication was not always clear. However, the quality of the product was always prioritized and held in the highest regard, which ultimately made the hiccups worthwhile and left me happy and satisfied once the project was finished. Tim and his team are real craftsmen and take pride in their work.

Gutter Master installed gutters, and repaired some fascia. They installed flashing where our metal carport meets the house where leaks have been prone to occur in the past. After a very heavy rainstorn I did have a leak but they returned to correct the leak. So far, very satisfied with the work and would recommend them to a friend. John Pruitt Conley, Ga.

Traci did an excellent job painting at our new house and we will definitely be hiring her again for future rooms! Our first non-thumbtack painter did a very poor job, so Traci had to come in and clean up his mess in several rooms. Punctual, precise and professional are a few words to describe the quality service you will receive. As an added bonus, our 2 dogs loved her so we didn't have to worry about leaving them home alone while she was working. Five stars!

How many times have I used contractors in my life? 100 times? 200? Maybe more. How many can I give a 5 star rating to? ONE! 3CB are amazing! They performed various projects in my house, the main one being painting all the walls, ceilings and trim. My house is an awkward 2 story, 3,000 sq.ft. home with high ceilings. They finished the job on time, on budget and to the highest standard of quality. I simply cannot say enough good things about this company. Leo went "above and beyond" in all aspects of the job. As my wife will tell you, I have ridiculously high standards and expections and Leo and his team exceeded them. As with all customers we changed our minds on several things and Leo accepted them patiently and politely. He too is a perfectionist and even repainted (a second time) two of our walls (for no upcharge) simply because he saw a minor imperfection in the walls (builder's fault, not 3CB). Simply the best company out there. He came to us recommended by some friends, and I will be recommending him to everyone possible! I'm connecting him up with a friend who is a high end home builder as I know he can do the perfect job for him too! 5 STARS as I can't give him six stars!

Big Mike's came out and built a loft for additional storage in my garage. They did an excellent job, it has held up well for over 2 months now. Excellent customer service, showed up on time and got the job done within the time frame specified. Very professional. He even used the extra material to build a quick dog house free of charge because I mentioned needing one to protect my dogs from the rain. I will definitely be calling Big Mikes to fix my deck up in the summer.

I worked with Keith Snapp to build our house back in 1994. In fact, it was 21 years in August that we moved in and we are still enjoying the house today. Keith was great to work with and helped us design the house based on Southern Living house plan. The plan was heavily modified to meet our needs and Keith provided a custom architectural design to make it a reality. It took approximately six months to complete and was completed on our planned date. We worked closely with Keith throughout the build process and were able to make small design changes along the way. We have been very happy with the quality of the design and construction over the years. I would highly recommend Keith as a home builder and remodeler.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

    Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
