We hired Brandon to build us a free standing swing set. We agreed to go to Home Depot together so he could get the lumber and hardware needed and I would pay. I was fine with that. What I had issues with was he demanded to be paid full labor in advance because he said he needed to put gas in his truck and pay the employee he hired for that day. If he's operating on such a short shoe-string budget, I think that's a problem. We were pleased with the look of the finished product until we went to swing on it and it almost collapsed on my daughter and I. The whole set shifted to the far left because it had not been constructed properly. I called another General Contractor the next day who said it wasn't only a safety hazard, but not even up to code according to state regulations for playground equipment. I asked Brandon to rebuild it and he said NO. I asked him to at least take it down before it fell on a child to which he also said NO.

I would advise a customer to look for someone with at least 10 years experience as a carpenter,and must know the saftey Minimum distances for proper installation.
