- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Unlike many personal chef services who create a set rate for a specific amount of meals, I charge by the hour. This allows clients more flexibility and control over what I prepare for them.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
While working as a social worker, I became increasingly aware of the impact that food and nutrition has on people's lives. Although many of the programs and organizations that I worked with provided nutrition education and concrete support for accessing food, little to no attention was paid to whether people had the skills or resources to prepare healthy meals for themselves. Shortly after, I enrolled in a chef's training program. Since then, I have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to put my skills to work.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
The type of work I do varies depending on the client. I provide personal chef services for clients that are either too busy or unable to cook. I also provide meal planning services for busy families and professionals that are looking for healthy and simple meals ideas and recipes. In addition, I might work with a client who has already met with a registered dietitian and received dietary guidelines and sample meal plans, but needs help developing strategies and cooking skills to integrate that plan into their daily life. Finally, I teach private cooking classes and parties as well as public and private cooking demonstrations in a wide range of venues.
