Ms. Arp tutors my 9-year-old fourth grader twice per week with a focus on reading and writing. Prior to beginning her sessions, Ms. Arp met with me to gauge my child's needs. She was very thorough in her assessment of my wants and obviously very knowledgeable about best practices in teaching and remediation. I felt very comfortable being honest about my child's weaknesses and my fears for his future. Ms. Arp put me at ease, though, when she explained to me her plan for bringing my child up to grade level in reading. Ms. Arp spent the first sessions diagnosing my child's reading abilities. From there, she paid close attention to what he was doing in his classroom lessons, and her tutoring reflected the same subject matter as his teacher's lessons. If his class was working on identifying the main idea, that's what my child would work on with Ms. Arp during tutoring. Whenever I had a new idea for an area of focus, Ms. Arp always listened and changed her lessons to address those concerns. I feel like Ms. Arp is part of the larger team of folks who care about my child's education. My child has gained confidence and tangible skills thanks to Ms. Arp. I am grateful that we found a tutor who offered a convenient schedule and a reasonable rate. Giving your child the best opportunities in life should not exist solely for the wealthy. Ms. Arp allows my family to afford the extra academic attention while still having enough left over to keep my child in other extra-curricular activities. We could not have asked for a better tutor. Thanks, Ms. Arp!

Throughout the year I attended Tutelage Academy, Charles has helped me become a more productive student. Not only did he teach me how to study effectively through deliberate practice, but he also taught me lifestyle choices such as time management which I still implement into my life daily. Charles emphasized the importance of time and how it should be spent, and his work ethic exhibits this belief. Everything he states from a step-by-step technique to a witty life story turns into a lesson.

Charles Justus Garard, Jr. PhD I have known Dr. Garard for approximately 28 years and worked with him as a colleague, teaching at the college level from 1989 until 2003. During my association with Dr. Garard, I have observed his expertise not only in teaching and mentoring but also in his writing skills. He was exceptional at proofreading several of my documents and manuscripts, as well as offering other colleagues writing and literary assistance. In addition to his regular college teaching duties, he taught English as a second language on weekends to students in several minority communities in Atlanta. He traveled to China as a professor in English language, literature, and writing, where he served for seven (7) years. Dr. Garard has demonstrated an outstanding talent with the English language and is an invaluable asset to both writers and editors. Please feel free to contact me if I can offer further insight into Dr. Garard’s gifted abilities. Donald W. Blair 404-375-1435

About

Curiosity and discovery have brought me great joy and freedom that I have been compelled to share with others from the moment I could speak. And I have found the fulfillment of celebrating another's success through my teaching is just as sweet as having succeeded myself. After graduating cum laude in mechanical engineering, I completed a master's degree in engineering, teaching and counseling undergraduate students along the way. After graduate school, I taught introductory engineering at a local technical college. The way that I tutor is particular to the student and based on three distinct goals. First, I learn in what ways my pupil learns best so I can personalize the learning plan to the student. Second, I apply this style of teaching with each lesson until the student is confident enough to teach others the lesson himself. Then third, I transform the student's view until they see the lesson in the world around them--a mathematical formula in the way that the leaves move with the wind or a rhetorical strategy in the body language of two people chatting at the park. It is in applying knowledge that words on a page become truly powerful and the efforts of learning become fruitful. Through the study of engineering that lasted seven years and a career in engineering ever since, I have mastered many branches of mathematics such that I can see the math in the world around me. I make a living applying math.

About

when explaining, I used to point out what you need to memorize by heart and what you need to understand for applying on your work. It helps you go straight forward to the main point of the section (or chapter). After learning, you are confident when facing with tests of quizzes in your classroom.
