About this pro

How does your business stand out?

I am super efficient. I can juggle household chores and am highly adept at remembering activities and dates. I am quite able to take note of personal preferences, likes and dislikes, which helps me interact quickly and efficiently especially when planning outings, parties, and doing home design work.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

Creative license is something I cherish. I enjoy being able to add a little of my own personal flair to my projects. I enjoy getting to know my clients and learning their likes and dislikes. Once I get to know clients, and gain an understanding of their comfortability levels, their artistic styles, their ideas of 'home' and comfort, I enjoy being able to flow forward and build upon that. Although creative license is one of my favorite parts of working as a consultant, I make it a point to make sure that my clients are comfortable and also included in the process. If I am planning parties or taking on a design project, I continually keep my clients updated as to any changes in ideas, costs, times, and scheduling as these arise.

Erin was great. She helped me transform my boring apartment that I got for work into a nice place. She did it all on a very limited budget and even painted a few pieces of furniture I bought off craigslist now I can resell when I move out and make 3x what I originally paid. All together I would definitely recommend hiring Erin for your interior decorating and even for making purchases. She is responsible and stays on or under budget.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I do quotes on a individualized basis.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes, whenever the opportunity arises.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I suppose I didn't decide, it is more a line of work that chose me. I spent many years trying to be less creative than I am, and one day I decided that happiness is really about embracing who I am, and what makes me happy. I enjoy working with others creatively and home 'helping', as I like to call it, because it is an all-incompassing term for what I offer, provides me that opportunity professionally.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Interior decorating, party planning, child care, household management, pet care, housekeeping, personal assistant, artistic advising, secretarial work, etc.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Actually, it was redecorating my own bedroom. I often spend a lot of time focusing on my clients, so when I recently was able to spend some time updating my personal space it was a very unique experience for me. I had to focus inward more than usual, and it was an experience that I greatly cherished. I often search the internet for ideas to use in my work, and was pushed by a online post to redesign my personal space.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Be open to sharing brief emotional windows. When I was working as a news editor, my advisor recommended an exercise which I still find very helpful. He encouraged me to focus on short scenes. As an exercise I would pick a single event, and focus on describing it. I enjoy bringing out ideas of comfort and friendship in my job. If the client is able to focus on some specific memory or objects that bring up strong feelings, it is very helpful in order to personalize each project. Personalization along with creative license are really what enable me to be successful when working with clients.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I am very detail oriented. I try to make sure things are always on schedule. I work with a large group of people, so I am able to acquire pieces from many different places. It is important to me for my clients to always have interesting artwork, ideas, and fresh new looks. I try to find inspiration in new places, which surprisingly is often the past. My idea of future forward decorating is often drawing on feelings, emotions, and past experiences.
