I am relocating to another state and Arlen helped me by rewriting my resume, providing me with an adaptable cover letter, reference sheet, and set up my LinkedIn profile. The job was done through email and several planned phone "meetings". Arlen's turnaround time was quick...seemed as fast as I could hand him information, it was done! I was very impressed with Arlen's people skills; he communicates well through both email and phone. After a couple of phone conversations he was able to extract my best "soft skills"; creating the perfect "snapshot" of me on paper! I found Arlen to be extremely skilled and knowledgeable regarding resume writing; he turned my 5 page (yes, yes it was...) resume into a very readable 2 pages AND he did it without loosing any information. My resume succinctly and accurately reflects my experience, competency, and skills in the mental health field. This resume has what it takes to ensure initial contact upon application for employment. The experience was further enhanced by Arlen's collaborative spirit; he offered explanations regarding the changes he wanted to make in my original resume as well. He went above and beyond expected services by providing me with "tips" which would increase the amount of initial contacts by prospective employers, showing me how to easily adapt my cover letter to any job I might apply for, and by supplying references (upon request) to job recruiters located in my future state. Arlen has also made it clear that he will be available to me as a resource for employment needs as I move through the process of finding a job and relocating. It is extremely comforting to know that I have a professional to turn towards should I need the additional support. I, in all sincerity, do not know how Arlen could have improved on my experience with him. Nothing went wrong, his product was exceptional, and his service outstanding. I highly recommend ARC Resumes to anyone who is currently seeking employment and needs that high impact resume which will land interviews.

I am very impressed with the final product of my business plan. They did a great job of listening and incorporating my vision for my business in the plan as well as including a comparison analysis of my competitors. The plan is very detailed, organized, and it was completed in a timely manner. They were very patient and applied corrections and changes upon request. Communication was very effective and the financial projections were very reasonable and accurate. Overall, I am a satisfied customer and would recommend this service for business owners that need guidance in writing a professional good quality business plan. After I paid in full, they still were available for questions and made additional changes changes to the plan with no hesitation. Thank you for this great experience and for helping me bring my vision or this business to life on paper.

David did a tremendous job helping me with my resume. He demands that you look inward and ask yourself the tough questions that ultimately make you shine. By the time you have a resume to hand out, you'll also have confidence in your value. I couldn't have asked for a better mentor for resume writing and career coaching.

My Experience with Monica was great she is so knowledgeable of word usage, writing styles, and resume/cover letter design. What set her apart of the others was the simple fact that all I needed her to do was write me a cover letter and she went as far as to give me resume suggestions, go through a couple interview question, on top of writing a great cover letter. I assure you I will continue to use her in the future, thanks Monica your the best!

Charles Justus Garard, Jr. PhD I have known Dr. Garard for approximately 28 years and worked with him as a colleague, teaching at the college level from 1989 until 2003. During my association with Dr. Garard, I have observed his expertise not only in teaching and mentoring but also in his writing skills. He was exceptional at proofreading several of my documents and manuscripts, as well as offering other colleagues writing and literary assistance. In addition to his regular college teaching duties, he taught English as a second language on weekends to students in several minority communities in Atlanta. He traveled to China as a professor in English language, literature, and writing, where he served for seven (7) years. Dr. Garard has demonstrated an outstanding talent with the English language and is an invaluable asset to both writers and editors. Please feel free to contact me if I can offer further insight into Dr. Garard’s gifted abilities. Donald W. Blair 404-375-1435

    About

For the past 13 years, I've been working in the field of behavioral health and developmental disabilities. Currently, I am serving on the region 3 planning board, the Dekalb County Task Force to end domestic violence, the fatality committee and volunteer for the women's resource center, as well as lifeline animal clinic and paws, both nonkill animal and rescue agencies. Previously, I had worked in visual communications, with a double major in English and journalism. I also have worked from being a fashion editor to new business development presentations to ad copy to monographs for oncology CEUs and brochures, to mention just few types of examples. I've even written screen treatments and dialogue, but I'm mostly interested in writing grants and worked for two years to get the New York Foundation placed on the Georgia list of providers so that my tuition could be covered as I attended their more intensive programs. I am interested in an opportunity to participate in writing grants, in particular for the purpose of dealing with the underserved population in Georgia, particularly the disabled, the homeless and children of domestic violence. This is my passion.

    About

I'm an investor of people, so I work from the heart while using my head. I take pride in my work, as I work with the genuine intention to be of help to others and see them succeed.

    About

I am a writer, copy editor, proofreader, and manuscript evaluator with experience working with independent writers. I have written book reviews, policy manuals, job and business descriptions, web content, articles, employee manuals, query letters, and book synopses. I have edited and proofread novels, web content, essays, and religious sermons. As a manuscript consultant, copy editor, and proofreader, I bring a fresh eye to a writer's work. In evaluating a piece, I search for strengths in character development, plot, and storytelling, and uncover errors in grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. I use what I learn about a writer's manuscript to assist the author in transforming his or her book into a tightly written piece.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

    • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
    • Strong writing skills.
    • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
    • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
    • Expertise in your target area.
    • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

    • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
    • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
