We have struggled finding a reliable and trustworthy tax service or accountant for years. I can finally say after years of searching we won’t be going to anyone other than Timothy Pytel. He was knowledgeable, efficient and he put our mind at ease. I will be recommending him to everyone I know come tax seasons.

I had the pleasure of working with Streling Rose Consulting Corp. to help me develop my business plan. I looked at reviews before deciding to partner with the company and spoke with Jennifer. But I could of never imagined some of the most kind, knowledgeable and understanding people worked to make my vision real. Sterling Rose Consulting Corp. attention to detail is outstanding. I knew what I wanted and how I wanted to execute the plan but the team of advisor still brought their expertise for things like other target markets and potential opportunities. Durning my partnership with Streling Rose Consulting Corp. their were several hurricanes that effected them and the surrounding areas, but they never wavered in proffessionalism. I'm gratefull to have found Streling Rose Consulting Corp, I believe the stars really did align!

Andrew has been my accountant since I opened my auto repair shop more than 10 years ago. He is always on top of everything, takes care of my books, and even makes suggestions to help me save money. I have been very happy with his service and have recommended him many times to other business owners and individuals for their personal taxes. Andrew is the best!!

I have always done my own taxes but circumstances changed this year and I needed to file in two states. Could not wrap my head around it. I talked to several people and decided to go with Debra at Premier Tax & Accounting Services. She promptly answered each of my MANY questions and made me feel comfortable. She was prompt and prepared the return exactly when she said she would. She was great to talk with, I felt like I was chatting with an old friend. I highly recommend Debra

I hired Cititax to prepare my husband and my year end tax returns. We had a lot of life activities this year from having moved, gotten married and purchasing a house for the first time so we wanted to hire a professional to ensure we maximized our tax return. Shybi was a real pleasure to work with and extremely responsive from initial request to the time our returns we’re filed. His price was competitive and I feel we were charged fairly. We are very busy and could be difficult to get in touch with but Shybi was patient and efficient in all of our meetings. He provided valuable insight and was able to answer all of our questions. He turned our returns around within hours once I had provided him with all of the necessary data. We would definitely hire CITITAX again and refer to anyone looking for someone to prepare their personal tax returns.

I would like to say that I am very pleased with the results of working with Ms. Napier. I was worried with completing my Accounting course initially but she helped me achieve high scores and got me one step closer to graduating. I would use her services again, and recommend others for these outstanding results. Thank you.

Amy did an excellent job with our taxes. She is detail orientated, good with time lines, and pleasant to work with. She found several savings our previous accountant had missed. When one of her clients went over the planned on time allotment called me to push back our meeting. I appreciated her respecting my time. Amy is a very capable professional. David G in Kennesaw

Mr Aalen has been working with me on my back tax problems. He really has a lot of experience working with the IRS. He was the best person for this problem because ive worked with other tax professionals before. I feel that If he was my original accountant I would not even be in this position. I also relocated to another state and he is still working with me as if I'm still there and hasn't missed a beat and I can always get in touch with him unlike my past experience. He really knows how to take away any confusion, concerns and frustrations you may have . I have recommended him to 2 of my family members and they are very pleased!

George Varghese and his team at Business Financial Group are the best in the business, hands down! George is the most knowledgeable CPA with which we have ever worked. As a one time small business owner in both Georgia and Florida, I cannot count the number of times he has helped us to understand the ins and outs of the IRS. Whenever we have had any issues whatsoever, whether it was with federal or state taxes, George has always stepped up and handled communicating with the tax agencies, which has been a huge relief for us, and he has gotten any issues we have had under control in amazing time! We mistakenly thought that he could only deal with issues in Georgia where is office is located so, when we moved to Florida and opened a business, we procured the services of a highly recommended CPA there. What a huge mistake! We ended up with the IRS freezing our business accounts and trying to garnish our wages! At our wits end, we again reached out to George who, in his always very kind and gentle manner, explained that he could help us even though we no longer resided in Georgia. WITHIN 72 HOURS, OUR ACCOUNTS WERE UNFROZEN AND THE GARNISHMENTS WERE GONE!! He always makes time to explain things to us in terms that we can understand. If for any reason he is unable to answer our call, he always returns our call usually within a few hours or by the next day at the latest. Just as promised on his website, whenever we were feeling overwhelmed and at a complete loss, he has helped us to reduce our financial burden as well as relieving the anxiety and hopelessness that accompanies such things. His services are worth far more than what he charges and are, to us, worth far more than his weight in gold! My personal recommendation, DO NOT waste your time or spend your money with any other accountant! He also offers excellent business counseling. Since taking his business advice, we have had no more issues. He has been providing us with incomparable service for over a total of 10 years now and we will NEVER use anyone else! Thank you so much, George. You have been our savior too many times to count!

I am very good at keeping track of books. I am currently going to school for a BA in Accounting. I pay attention to details, and I am very good at getting things organized to suit whoever I am working with/for. My passion for accounting came when I was in high school and got to take a finance class. Becoming a mom put my passion on hold, but the time away from it is giving me more desire than ever to pursue it.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who can file my taxes?

Any individual with a preparer tax identification number (PTIN) is eligible to file your income taxes on your behalf. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean they will be the best candidate to provide the help you need with your income tax preparation. The IRS explains that CPAs, attorneys and enrolled agents are all allowed to legally represent their clients before the IRS. They have a more thorough understanding of tax code than an individual operating solely with a PTIN or an Annual Filing Season Program participant who provides their services on a volunteer basis. Consider the complexity of your tax return and what level of expertise you’ll require. Before entrusting someone with your private financial and personal information, do some research on their qualifications. The IRS has a searchable database where you can verify the background and credentials of your income tax preparation professional. Once you have selected someone, ask about their service fees and confirm their availability. Then provide them with all the documentation they require, including W-2s, 1099s and more. Always ask to review the paperwork before it is submitted, and never sign a blank tax return.

What is an accountant?

Accountants are financial professionals who have received an accounting degree from a four-year university or college. By trade, accountants prepare, maintain and examine the financial statements of an individual, business or institution. An accountant prepares reports for tax purposes and can also perform audits of public companies. Common tasks include creating budgets, analyzing profits and losses of a company, processing payroll, preparing financial statements for company leadership, and creating and maintaining financial database systems for a company.

Accountants do not automatically have a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation unless they have passed the Uniform CPA Examination and received the proper license. Regardless of whether they are CPA certified or not, accountants can assist businesses and individuals with bookkeeping and financial reporting, while CPAs are more knowledgeable in tax codes as a result of the CPA licensing examination and continuing education requirements. CPAs are also eligible to represent clients before the IRS if audit support is required, while a non-CPA accountant is not. Academic background, years in the field and professional reputation all can affect an accountant’s rates.

How much does it cost to hire an accountant?

Accountants’ rates vary based on their education, licenses, experience, and the work for which they are being hired. An accountant may charge an hourly rate when a company or individual needs their services on a short-term basis, such as when performing an audit or requesting assistance setting up a financial database or process. Hourly rates can range as widely as $40 per hour to $300 or more per hour, depending on your geographic location and the accountant. Check out the average hourly rate for accounting services in your region.

Accountants may offer a package rate for weekly, monthly or annual services to reward ongoing customers. Many accountants offer online services where small businesses can access online accounting software and payroll assistance, and the accountant — for a monthly or other recurring fee — provides financial analysis and reporting of their numbers. For basic monthly accounting services, an accountant might charge anywhere from $75 to $500 or more, depending on what was included in a given package, the size of the client’s business, and the complexity of work requested. Nationally, full-time staff accountants earn between $40,000 and $80,000, depending on experience and other factors.

How much does it cost to get taxes done?

Hiring a professional to help with income tax preparation can be priceless. Pro help can mean no mistakes and a maximized tax return. The cost to get your income taxes done depends on the professional you hire. Tax attorneys or in-demand CPAs will often have the highest rates for their services. Next in the pricing tier are enrolled agents, who will usually have higher rates than individuals solely working with a preparer tax identification number (PTIN). Nationally, the average cost of income tax preparation ranges from $150 to $190. Income tax preparation prices can also vary based on where you live and the complexity of your tax returns. Here are some examples of average income tax preparation prices from an enrolled agent:

  • Taxpayers filing only a W-2 tax form: $50.
  • Taxpayers filing a W-2 along with additional tax forms such 1099-INT and 1098-E: $150.
  • Taxpayers with several tax forms and one or two additional considerations such as a rental property, investment transactions, K-1 income, 1099-MISC or a simple small business: $225.
  • Taxpayers with multiple activities (rentals, K-1 income, small business, etc.), several stock transactions and more: $395.

Nationally, the average hourly rate nationally for a tax prep professional ranges between $150 and $450.
