I was very satisfied with the work Oliver's crew did with pruning a couple of large trees in our back yard. They took down all but two of the dead branches since one of them was incredibly high and almost impossible to reach and the other was small and they just missed it. They also did a great job cleaning up all the debris afterwards. I would definitely use them again for future tree pruning.

El Maguey did trimming, mulching and pressure washing to clean up my courtyard / patio area. Not only was the quality of the work excellent, but they were very responsive and made some suggestions. I am considering them for larger landscaping needs in the future.

They were great. Helped educate us on which trees were healthy and should be saved (saving us money) and which were fine and just needed to be pruned. The crew showed up early and had our project taken care of in record time. They cleaned up behind themselves so well, you would never know we had work done. No matter what happened they always acted guest first from the quote, to the leader on the job day of and even the team. Super friendly. They have our business for life!

NB Landscape was responsive and professional. The price was affordable. However, they did leave a lawn bag where they cut the grass, but I will remind them that the grass and trash related to the cut must be hauled away because the community does not have lawn trash removal. And, they cut/pruned my trees and bushes, but they missed one tree. I will continue to use the company and make send an email about the trash haul and the tree missed. They accept payments via online, and they sent an estimate in a timely manner. We agreed to a regular two-week cut, and I requested them to fill-in a hole that has developed on the property. So far, I am pleased.

Highly Recommend. Great communication. Very Professional. ArbSmart did an excellent job pruning a large oak tree in our front yard. Jon-Erik was very careful with the prep and setup. He understood our request and worked to assure us that only the necessary branches would be removed. He arrived right on time and completed the job without delay. The team then cleaned up the area and hauled the trimmings away. We will definitely call ArbSmart for any tree services in the future. S.Fincher Acworth

I had a home purchased as a REO.... Thinking I was making a savy investment; the home came with an unforeseen amount of work and maintenance to just get it to safety. I neglected the outside of my home... Doing the bear minimum and now it's just so far from manageable.... I needed to call in the pros. My home had overgrown kudzu, Ivy, over 20 over grown shrubs, trees and 5 large beds that looks like The jungle book. Needless to say... It was disgraceful and on the brink of causing me an anxiety attack. I call a few professionals for quotes but everyone was concerned about rover selling me vs giving me a practical solution. Meeting Marcos was a fresh of breath air. Humble, honest, genuine and intelligent.... He listened to me ramble about all of my issues and made sense of it all. He gave me tiers of service to help me budget short term and long term visions of my home. As a woman, having dealt with other contractors; I've become increasing aware of how we are regards. Well NOT Marcos, he is incredibly sensible, fair, And hardworking. His cost will generally be 1/2 the price of other contractor bc he won't draw out the project. He took down 2 trees, 8 shrubs, cleaned out 3 LARGE beds 20x3 and trimmed back trees, edgings, pruning and mowing on my 1 acres lot in 1 day. He's in my phone as a trusted vendor who I will continue to do business with in other areas of my business. Marcos is a top notch professional with an extremely efficient way of running his business Investors or homes owners that are looking for LARGE clearing of lawns for site prep, lawn makeover before selling or just maintenance... He is your guy!!! Thanks Marcos!

Very pleased with our revamped back yard!! After grading, we no longer get massive puddles across the entire yard, and the sod is already greening up nicely. :) Highly recommend; DYG Landscaping was able to completely clear brambles and underbrush, grade the entire yard, lay sod, lay pine straw, and even prune a tree for us in a single day! Fantastic work!!

I can't say enough good things about the quality of this company and the owners. This is the third time I've used called them a job and I look forward to working with them in the future. This time Cole did a spring clean-up: weeded the garden beds, fertilized (all this using organics), pruned, repositioned the trellis, leveled all large pots, and put a heavy layer of mulch around. The garden looks incredible, walking and sitting out there is a calming, peaceful experience. I find myself smiling everywhere I look. Cole is responsible, caring, and has a great artistic eye. It's easy to tell he loves his work. I can't recommend Organiculture highly enough.

Seth was fantastic- he was quick to get to the site to quote it out, was competitive in his price and got the job done in record time. He took down overgrown trees (that were bushes), pulled out dead bushes, trimmed and pruned front lawn and included before/after pictures. We live out of state so this was stressful but his regular communication and other reviews helped us hire him. We are so glad we did. Thanks for everything!!

I was very impressed with Denny Westhoven of WESTHOVEN TREEWORKS! He is a very nice gentleman who came out to review my job the day after we connected through Thumbtack. I wrote up a detailed list of what needed to be done. We agreed on a fair price and he started my landscape and tree pruning project about a week after we met, working for 2 days to complete everything I had asked to be done. Then, he volunteered to come the next day (a Sunday) do even more to enhance the cleanup by pressure washing the driveway, sidewalks and spreading 50 bales of pine straw all over the pine islands to give my yard a well cared for, finished look. His assistants, Steve and Dillion were very polite, courteous young men with whom we enjoyed conversing. I hope Denny is available the next time I need tree work, pressure washing, stump grinding, landscape pruning or mulching. Contact him at dewesthoven@yahoo.com. this THUMBTACK idea worked really well for me. I will use it again, I am sure.

We have worked with Mark for the past few years and have steadily been impressed. He comes with a lot of knowledge and experience. He recently finished a major pruning of our property in Bent Tree Estates. We have many mature trees, some of which were hanging over our pool cage. Mark managed to cut back and remove trees and branches with no peripheral damage what so ever. Our garden has never looked better! Mark is a man of his word and we could not recommend him highly enough.

Mr. Crawford was knowledgeable, $ reasonable, professional, and completed the project within the needed timeframe. I needed my side and back yard redone. He resurfaced areas, added topsoil, placed sod and seeded. In addition, he pruned some trees and placed pine straw. I appreciate his attention to detail....he watered the yard and told me when, how long, and how often to water. I will definitely use him for additional projects!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
