When I came to Dave Lockwood for guitar lessons, I was struggling in kind of a self-taught rut. I could play chords for a lot of songs, but I didn't know the theory or anything you would call "advanced". Dave's methods show you how to understand the fretboard and why certain notes and chords go together. He is really helping me become a complete player. Mostly though, Dave is a very patient teacher. He doesn't mind going over the same material with you until you understand it and he'll take different approaches until you get it. I really appreciate this about his teaching methods.

We were able to experience Dave as a teacher for both my teenage daughter who came to him with several years of acoustic guitar study under her belt, and my son who was younger and new to electric guitar. In each case Dave was a most capable teacher who expanded their understanding of theory and the fretboard, while teaching them to play diverse styles well, including songs they chose and wanted to learn. The lessons were really enjoyable. I highly and unreservedly recommend Dave Lockwood as a patient teacher for students of all ages. He's great!

We have yet to start guitar lessons with Mr. Lockwood but so far he has been a dream to do business with! He has been prompt with responding to questions and he has been incredibly accommodating!

At age 44, I've had a lot of coaches and teachers in my life and I rank Keith right up there at the top. Keith starts with a free introductory lesson for a reason - because he is not going to sit around and teach you how to play your favorite songs - he is going to teach you how to play the instrument and music theory from the ground up. If you are serious about wanting to learn to play the guitar and willing to put in the hours and practice - I can't recommend Keith highly enough.

My experience with Cordell Music has been great. He's always easy to contact, fast to respond, and flexible with my schedule. He's a very knowledgable musician, and a great teacher. I started out with basic rhythm guitar, and now I'm learning to read staff notation. Keith has been great at explaining the music theory as we go, and I've learned more than I originally anticipated. It's been a fun journey. Highly recommended!

Paige is fantastic! She responds to messages quickly, she is very professional and such a great teacher. She didn’t interrupt me playing a part of music when I made mistakes, she let me try to figure it out myself and when I didn’t, she’d point it out. She’s very encouraging and patient, I would definitely recommend her to my friends if they played violin. I am new to violin, and with her I feel like I can really learn this instrument.

Taking violin lessons (and now viola) with Paige. It's been a much better experience for me than my first time trying to learn violin. I appreciate that she's willing to adapt her lessons to my own goals and also select music that is actually pleasing to listen to even for an absolute beginner. As some other reviews mentioned, she's also very quick to reply to any messages.

It was my 9 year old son's first guitar lesson and he responded really well to Paige. He even commented on how "supportive" and "nice" she was. Professional and Punctual. A great find in the neighborhood.

Eric has been my 11 year old daughter's guitar teacher for several years. We can't imagine taking guitar from anyone else. He is laid back, kind, and easy to work with. He's funny and relates both to kids and adults. Eric always tries to find music my daughter enjoys and mixes her lessons up so it never gets mundane. If we need a make up, he's more than accommodating. I cannot sing his praises enough!

I am retired and have little to no experience playing a musical instrument but have always wanted to play guitar. Eric is very patient and can adapt to anyone's musical level and talent. Blues, Rock, Jazz he cuts a wide path as far as his musical knowledge and is very adept at passing that on to his students. A "Rock" solid instructor!

Excellent first lesson. As an adult learning guitar, Eric's was a more holistic approach that got right into a meaningful lesson activity directly applied to the genre of music of interest to me.

I have been taking lessons from Ryan for about 10 months now and each week I see myself growing and sharpening my skill. I took guitar lessons when I was a teenager, but I wanted to get back at it and take my talents to the next level. We restarted my training and went from the building blocks of scales to the formation of modes. Now I am almost to a point where I can play any scale and mode horizontally and vertically up the neck of the guitar. He's a brilliant instructor who finds the best method of teaching for each student. Looking forward to taking more lessons with him. We even do Skype lessons since I moved out of the Alpharetta/Johns Creek area! Happy Shredding! -Andrew Briggs

I decided I wanted to learn how to play guitar at the age of 54, and I knew I needed an experienced teacher. I heard Ryan play at a club in Roswell and he was fantastic. Then I submitted my request on thumbtack, and he was the first guitar teacher to contact me. I've been taking weekly lessons from him since August 2013 and I am very pleased with how it is going. I went from knowing nothing about the guitar to being able to play over 20 chords and two songs since we started. Ryan is an excellent teacher and has also become a friend. He is a great guy and I highly recommend him if you want to take guitar lessons.

I've been taking bass lessons from Jim Coley close to three years now and the experience has been nothing short of amazing. I came into it knowing absolutely nothing about bass with the exception of knowing I wanted to play. I didn't even know the note names of each open string! I'm still learning and have much to learn but I couldn't have picked a better teacher. He's patient, supportive, encourging and experienced. I came in aiming to be as well rounded as I could be and he has covered so much ground with me in a diverse curriculum spanning every genere possible. He is also more than willing to teach you songs by your favorite bands or artists. He goes above and beyond every time and has been flexible with me at every turn. Its more than worth your time and is one of the most valuable insvestments I have made since moving here. I strongly implore anyone with the desire to learn to take some cash and spend a few minutes with him and see how it goes. You'll be glad you did!

I've been taking guitar lessons from Jim Coley for a couple of years now. I was self taught on "cowboy chords" and decided in my mid 40's I wanted to learn different styles, be able to read tabs and learn more about the structure of sheet music. Jim's teaching style has made this challenge a fun and enjoyable learning experience. The selection of music and lessons he works with me on has tremendous range and style from Classic Rock, Latin, Funk, Jazz, Blues and more. I would highly recommend some sessions with Jim. It has been and continues to be a great experience.

Jim is a great guitar teacher He caters to exactly what you want to learn, he is well equipped to write musical arrangements in tab and official notation so you have both to learn from I teach guitar at a music school and I still study with Jim because he keeps challenging me so our lessons help me be a better teacher all around !!

I have known Valencia Giles for 7 years, and working with her and getting lessons from her has been an amazing experience. She cares for all of her students, and makes sure that they are succeeding not only musically, but academically as well. Valencia Giles as well as the rest of the staff are all extremely nice and caring. They all have years and years of experience. I would trust each and every one of them to give me lessons. If you are deciding on a place to send your child/children to get piano, violin/viola, guitar, and/or singing lessons, or if you want lessons yourself, then don't hesitate to call V.C. Giles Music Studio.

I absolutely loved my time at V. C. Giles Music Studio. I learned so much about music theory and technique. What I learned even helped me when I joined a chorus class. Even though I have not taken piano lessons in over a year, I still play for fun occasionally. Mrs. Valencia is also a great role model. She taught me a lot about life and happiness and helped me become confident in who I am. I have only good memories from this studio!

What a great experience my son has had since starting guitar lessons at Lawrenceville-Suwanee School of Music. The staff could not be nicer or more professional. The teachers are all highly experienced, and you can just tell that they love what they do. They make the children, and the parents, feel like family. I wouldn't take my child any place else, and I would highly recommend this music school to anyone - great place!

Teaching my grandson piano he's only nine years old and had about 5 lessons he's doing very well. Mark seams to be very good he's keeping the interest of the lessons on my grandson's level and they work well together, looking to see great things open up for my grandson. Very happy🎹🎵. My grandson already want to learn guitar of course after he's got the piano down ( Mark also offers guitar lessons)

I took private lessons with Mark for 2 years, and he's a fabulous teacher. I started off learning "metal" scales and riffs but later decided to take a classical route. He's a well rounded instructor and I would highly recommend him. I have a personal friend who encouraged me to take lessons with him who is now a classical guitar instructor at a university and he learned from the best :-)

I've been working with Derek now for a few years and I have learned so much and have expanded my guitar playing more than I could ever imagine. He encouraged me to truly be a part of the music and song. At first I was afraid of making mistakes and he taught me that keeping the integrity of the song is more important than focusing on the mechanics of playing. I can't imagine taking guitar lessons from anyone else!! He is a very encouraging teacher and has an incredible amount of experience in the music industry. If you're interested in taking music lessons, I highly recommend contacting Derek Ferwerda!!

Derek is a number #1 when it comes to the music world. If you need instrument lessons from bass, guitar, drums - he’s the guy that’ll get you to where you want to be. You’ll learn from the ear and he’ll show you the way. I learned from hearing a song and playing it. After awhile I could hear what I was supposed to play. Derek has a great heart and will make you feel welcomed into a group of students & friends that’ll show you what they’ve learned and even jam together. Derek is a long time friend and mentor. I’d never need to go anywhere else to learn.

Derek knows his students and tailors his lessons accordingly. He's not just a guitar instructor; he's more like a music life coach helping with technique, new habits, songwriting tips and band arrangement. It's a very open and laid back environment and you don't even realize what you are learning while it's happening. Very intuitive approach. I highly recommend a visit.

About

I share 55 years of experience in six-string guitars and 40 years under a steel. I prefer students who are beginners or a little higher. You will need the best comfortable guitar you can afford. I would like to know the make and model of your guitar. If you prefer an electric, bring ONLY the guitar. I have plenty of amps. I am not an exponent of one style of music; instead I teach you the basics so you can easily play any style you like. I expect you to practice 15 - 30 minutes a day, 7 days a week. Why? Well, you won't learn guitar from me: you'll learn it from YOU. Those times when you start applying what I teach you is where you start making that guitar your own. You also need regular practice to toughen the 4 fingertips of your left hand. About

Does your child enjoy music? If so, then it is important not to squelch that flame. If your child found an instrument that he/she truly enjoys and excels at, would you support and encourage him/her to learn that instrument? As a professional teacher, I can tell you that it is possible for anybody to learn an instrument if he/she has a good teacher, somebody to support him/her, and he/she is using his/her natural strengths. Would you like to discover the best path for your child? Within 20 minutes, a key music assessment will shine a light on the path that will give your child the best chance for a lifetime of enjoyment and benefits that come with learning an instrument. The first steps we take often determine our success. A wrong start can lead a child into a class that demands too much from a skill set that is not yet developed. All the student knows is that he/she is struggling and could feel like he/she is not talented enough to learn. The truth is that he/she is talented enough but chose a path that focused on the wrong skill set. The solution is to learn who you are and what is natural for you and use those talents first. With a single assessment, you could be sure you have helped your child put his/her best foot forward as he/she begins her path to music lessons. Are you interested in a key music assessment for your child? We don't want the testing fee to be a barrier to any child wanting to learn music. As a result, the fee is waived for children under the age of 15 years. Contact our studio right away to schedule a free assessment, and we look forward to meeting you! Key Music Center Norcross, Ga
