When I came to Dave Lockwood for guitar lessons, I was struggling in kind of a self-taught rut. I could play chords for a lot of songs, but I didn't know the theory or anything you would call "advanced". Dave's methods show you how to understand the fretboard and why certain notes and chords go together. He is really helping me become a complete player. Mostly though, Dave is a very patient teacher. He doesn't mind going over the same material with you until you understand it and he'll take different approaches until you get it. I really appreciate this about his teaching methods.
I am retired and have little to no experience playing a musical instrument but have always wanted to play guitar. Eric is very patient and can adapt to anyone's musical level and talent. Blues, Rock, Jazz he cuts a wide path as far as his musical knowledge and is very adept at passing that on to his students. A "Rock" solid instructor!
I've been taking bass lessons from Jim Coley close to three years now and the experience has been nothing short of amazing. I came into it knowing absolutely nothing about bass with the exception of knowing I wanted to play. I didn't even know the note names of each open string! I'm still learning and have much to learn but I couldn't have picked a better teacher. He's patient, supportive, encourging and experienced. I came in aiming to be as well rounded as I could be and he has covered so much ground with me in a diverse curriculum spanning every genere possible. He is also more than willing to teach you songs by your favorite bands or artists. He goes above and beyond every time and has been flexible with me at every turn. Its more than worth your time and is one of the most valuable insvestments I have made since moving here. I strongly implore anyone with the desire to learn to take some cash and spend a few minutes with him and see how it goes. You'll be glad you did!
Jimmy was one of my friends who play guitar, When I started learning Jimmy was an outstanding friend who always encouraged me. Once he saw I was kinda serious he used to give me scales and exercises to get better. I have nothing but great things to say about Jimmy. He has a great style of teaching and encourages you to be better than you thought you could be. He is smart punctual and very flexible. He can teach you to play anything he is truly the most versatile musician I know. Jazz, rock, acoustic, classical , he can do it all and teach you effortlessly.
When our youngest son acquired a serious interest in learning double bass, Chris was one of the instructors recommended to us. He has a diverse musical background professionally and academically. Nearly two years later, our son has continued to study and make progress in musical theory, technique, performance, and general appreciation of the instrument. Part of the trick with kids is to keep them interested and inspired. Chris has been able to teach our son how-to-practice, tune the instrument, warm up, practice techniques and fundamentals, how to use tools like i-phone apps get the most out of the time spent. Finally, Chris is not just teaching the theory, he is himself a top-notch performer and a recording artist. Our family has seen Chris perform w/ Jazz groups at local venues like the Velvet Note which was inspiring for our son and helped to enrich the teacher/student connection.
Derek is a number #1 when it comes to the music world. If you need instrument lessons from bass, guitar, drums - he’s the guy that’ll get you to where you want to be. You’ll learn from the ear and he’ll show you the way. I learned from hearing a song and playing it. After awhile I could hear what I was supposed to play. Derek has a great heart and will make you feel welcomed into a group of students & friends that’ll show you what they’ve learned and even jam together. Derek is a long time friend and mentor. I’d never need to go anywhere else to learn.
Nick is an awesome teacher! He has a great rapport with my daughter, who takes piano and guitar lessons. He's always on time, polite, and professional. I was amazed by the talent of his older students at the last recital.
In a few words, I never thought I was going to be able to play the bass. Now I am. And I owe it to Linda. She's the most patient, talented, resourceful teacher I've ever met. She's fun to be around and is always interested in learning new songs just so she can teach me. I would recommend Linda to anyone who not only wants to learn how to play an instrument but is also looking for having a good time while learning. Thank you for everything, Linda!
My 13 year old son has been taking bass lessons from Max for over a year now. Max is a talented, enthusiastic and committed teacher. My son loves working with him and he continues to progress. We highly recommend Max. He makes the lessons fun and always productive.
Kaye Mero was my sons piano teacher while he was in high school. What she taught him went far beyond piano lessons. She ignited in him a passion for music that still burns brightly. Ms. Mero not only taught him the basics of how to play, but also exposed him to many types of music, opening his mind and building a great appreciation for everything from Beethoven to the Beatles. He took what he learned and applied it to other instruments and spent his years in high school involved in marching band, jazz ensemble, pep band and wind symphony. In his senior year, he was awarded the Patrick S. Gilmore award by his band director. In music, and with instruction from Ms. Mero, he has found his true calling. He is currently pursuing a music education degree with the intent of continuing in music therapy, so like Ms. Mero, he can share his love for music with others. We are grateful to her for starting him on his path.
Stephen is a phenomenal musician with an inherent ability to feel out music. He can pretty much play everything from jazz to classical to blues to metal. If it's music, Stephen can pretty much play it. He's taught me plenty of stuff. Mostly chord theory. He definitely knows his stuff.
I would highly recommend bass lessons with Drew.I went in not knowing anything about bass and not even thinking I could ever play an instrument. We started out from the very beginning and over the years got into the much harder things.I was extremely lucky to find Drew as my teacher. He has a gift for teaching and is extremely knowledgeable in music theory.I will use the different tools he taught me forever in my playing.I can honestly say that if it wasn't for Drew I wouldn't be playing today. He gave me confidence in my playing. He really cares about his students and goes out of the way in making sure you understand your instrument. Mikael.
I really enjoy my bass lessons a lot. Im learning so much more than I thought. I think he is great for any level of playing. Whether you are a beginner or advanced, you can tell that he knows how to teach all levels. He has amazing resources to teach you basically any genre. He is really amazing and worth it. I am a full-time working musician with many years of experience. My lesson curriculum utilizes music that you like in order to teach you the skills you need to fulfill your personal musical goals! Want to focus on improvement? Interested in becoming a studio musician? Whatever your goals are, I'll teach you the skills you need to accomplish them, while also sharing my personal experiences in these fields. As a successful self-employed bassist myself, I know and teach exactly what it takes to apply the bass guitar on any level, whether it be professionally or as a hobby. I also am well-versed in the electronics and inner workings of the guitar, and can repair nearly anything that is wrong with the guitar. Give me a call!
I give practical bass theory through application. Many teachers want to set a person down and dictate theory. Then, when all that theory is disseminated, one gets to apply the theory. Most people cannot fathom all the pure theory. Rather, most people learn a language, in this case a musical language, through its use with the applicable theory as appropriate. That is what I do.
I can teach aspiring musicians what they need to know. In order to reach they're personal goals.
I am a full-time jazz saxophonists and instructor. I author a series of educational jazz method books entitled, "Complete Jazz Styles."
I have been a professional musician for 51 years and have done numerous engagements, both in the performance and recording areas of this business. I can tailor my method of teaching to the students' expectations or give them a combination that meets their needs, along with reasonable explanations about theory. Ultimately, if the student is a beginner, intermediate, or an advanced player, I am sure that they will be happy with the results.
I have about 13 years of experience in guitar and bass. I'm big on learning the basics to techniques before tackling larger goals. I teach beginner students starting with basic chord structure, how to read tablature and notes, tuning by ear, scales, finger picking and eventually more advanced playing styles. I understand the composition to many different styles of music ranging from classic rock to modern pop music. Development of your own playing style is important, and I try and make sure to leave students with the proper tools and knowledge to grow in their art.
