Phil is a high quality contractor. He really knows construction and roofing in particular. He repaired a small leak in my roof at a very reasonable rate. The repaired area is not noticeable, even on close inspection. Other contractors wanted to replace an entire section of roof due to one small problem area, that no one but Phil could find. This would have left the roof with 2 different shades of shingles, and an obvious unsightly repair. This literally saved me thousands of dollars.

I sustained roof damage as a result of Hurricane Matthew. I found Statewide Roofing onThumbtack.com and inquired immediately. Alex Bello contacted me shortly thereafter and came to my house the next morning to assess the damage. He took before and after pictures as seen below. He gave me a very competitive price and secured the necessary materials that day. He completed the job the very next day to my complete satisfaction. I was leaving town and Alex recognized the immediacy with which I needed the job completed. He took the time to explain the intricacies of the job and how he would match the shingle colors...old with the new to make them blend as best possible. His patience and work ethic are second to none ! He truly wants to do everything to please his customers and certainly has gained my full support. If anyone ever needs any type of roofing work done, don"t hesitate to contact Statewide and Alex through Thumbtack.com.

Great service. I have had sophisticated issue, and several roofing companies simply couldn’t find the defect in the roof. Dave has decided to get to the bottom of the issue, he was able to find the leak in the roofing and was able to fix it. Once again, Dave is very professional and very honest person. I would definitely use this company in a future and I highly recommend his service to people with roofing problems.

Great experience. He and his wife were very nice and seemed very trustworthy. Would not hesitate to have them in my home again for any handyman service. They were also on time, prepared & detail oriented. They took time to prep the area below & did the clean up when done. Took pride in their work. We had storm damage & hired them to repair & paint sheetrock damage to our garage ceiling.

The Art of Home Improvement replaced the roof on our house in Rome. We are completely happy and very satisfied with our new roof, all the way around – quality of workmanship, materials, labor, value, communication, thoroughness, and care and clean-up of our property. Ray's bid was based on data that he used that is specific to our older home. His bid was accurate, thorough and fair. Very professional! When Ray and I met early on to first discuss the roof replacement, he offered many options concerning construction and shingle types. He explained up front what the entire job would entail from beginning to end. Our home is in the historic district, and is nearly 80 years old. Ray updated the old venting system with new ridge vents, which will lower heating and cooling bills, new drip edge and new flashing all around. Ray left shingle samples with us, and we were able to hold the sample up to our cedar shingle siding, in order to choose the right color shingle. We were considering a light color which would not have looked good on our home at all, but when we were able to compare a sample next to our siding, we realized how a darker, slate color was the perfect choice. It looks great! Ray kept in contact with us prior to beginning the job. If I had a question or concern, Ray returned my calls or emails promptly. He made it clear that he is available anytime if I have a concern following completion. All is good. The crew was great! All are very nice young people. I have done some roofing in my younger days, and I can they know what they are doing. Ray and his crew worked hard, non-stop, all day to complete the job. They covered the driveway, our plants and shrubs and our deck with tarps to protect them. No plant was damaged, and our deck looks as good as always. Clean up was extremely thorough. They cleaned the gutters, swept up and picked up any small shingle materials, and then they used magnets and a magnetic roller to pick up stray roofing nails that may have missed the tarps. We have had no nail issues. Ray even left a large magnet wand with us, so that when the dumpster was hauled away the following morning, I could use it to pick up nails and metal debris that may have been under the dumpster, or had fallen out when they winched the dumpster up to the truck. Ray is a nice man, and it was a pleasure to do business with The Art of Home Improvement. Ray was on time with each and every appointment, start time and completion time that he gave us. Ray returned each and every communication with us in a very timely manner. The Art of Home Improvement’s customer service is top notch! We love our new roof! Our house looks great!! The quality of construction, the warranties for construction and materials, and the pleasant experience we had working with Ray and The Art of Home Improvement are all 5 star!! If you are looking for a good roofing company, which is friendly, reliable, does great work at a great price, and keeps its commitments, then I would not hesitate to choose The Art of Home Improvement for the job. Thank you.

Hugo, from HG Roofing Services, is very competent & has years of industry experience. When a small portion of the roof above our back porch caved in I was anxious about how extensive the damage would be & how much it was going to cost to repair it. (Intentionally, I did not wish to contract with a large roofing contractor. I am of the opinion they have so much work that they dispense with projects quickly & it’s a training ground for those learning the trade). Hugo has a small team of workers. He explained our home builder had not used flashing on the side of the roof as it slopes upward under an overhang. Yes we encountered water damage in the eaves of the attic & above the porch celing. Much to my dismay, I learned our 14-year old roof has maybe another 3 years of life left in it. We’re not talking an inexpensive home. What is it about builder-quality workmanship (or lack of it)? I digress. Suffice it to say I was very impressed with the workmanship of HG Roofing Services & happy with the price. We’re talking trade knowledge bred from years in the business & true craftsmanship. I will be calling Hugo back in about 3 years to replace the roof😩! In the meantime, I’m hoping for a major hail & wind storm directly over my home (if you catch my drift)! You will not be disappointed in HG Roofing Services.

We are in the process of a total home renovation and recently used equality roofing for a brand new roof, as well as completely new windows and insulation. Out of the many contractors we've been dealing with throughout this process, antonio was the absolute best. From the beginning, he was extremely honest and upfront with us and we knew that he was not trying to take advantage of us in anyway - in fact, quite the opposite - he actually helped to save us quite a bit of money by telling us that our home's gutters were in excellent condition and then offering to eat the money on the extra materials he wound up having to buy (though we didn't let him). He was at our home the day after we closed and our new roof was installed within a matter of days - despite the extreme cold outside. Our new windows required new molding inside the home and for our home's exterior to be completely fixed afterwards, and antonio's guys, who were super nice and easy to communicate with, did it immaculately in a very short period of time. We felt that the money we paid equality roofing was worth every dime. Antonio was great on both email and on the phone, always getting back to us very quickly and sending us all of the quotes and info we requested. He was not only incredibly knowledgeable, but actually turned into a trusted advisor for us throughout the renovation. We'd use him again anytime we have a need for insulation, exterior or roofing repair. We whole-heartedly recommend antonio Thanks!!!

I contacted John via Thumbtack on Monday and he was able to fit me in the next day for what I originally thought was a small roofing repair. After taking an initial look and making the repair, John noticed there appeared to be additional damage. He took the time to fix the bigger issue at a very fair price that day going above and beyond what I could've imagined when I contacted him. I would highly recommend!

I've contacted a few contractors to address a roof leak around our chimney. One of them mentioned that my roof could be still under warranty since we had it redone 9 years ago. As another expert, Eric not only pointed that out as well but also took some good 15 mins of his busy schedule to give me a very detailed strategy to use when I face the original installer. To me it was totally positively shocking! If Eric treats a customer that he isn't having any business with such a compassion, I can only imagine how thorough and diligent his work would be with an engaged customer. Eventually, being very prepared (thanks to Eric) I was able to get the original installer to approve the warranty work and make all needed repairs. My gratitude goes to Eric for the exceptional values conducting his business.

We worked with Scott Burns with Progressive Remodeling and Roofing Company to replace our roof. With his previous experience as a claims adjuster, he was our advocate and was able to get 60 plus percent of the cost covered by our insurance company who had previously turned down weather damage. Scott was very upfront and trustworthy. We were able to get a attractive, high quality new roof for a minimal out of pocket cost. The roof was completed quickly with no mess left behind. I highly recommend Scott Burns and Progressive Remodeling & Roofing! Thanks Scott, Cindy Parks

My husband and I purchased a home built in 1997 and though it's 2015 this house looked like it hadn't been updated since 1997. We knew updating this house was at the top of our list upon move in. To start we hired CCK&B to help us bring our kitchen into the millenium. From start to finish the owner Mancel was nothing short of amazing to work with. I'm extremely picky and trying to design a kitchen that you will be happy with for years to come presents just a tad bit of anxiety. During the selection process, he exhibited a great deal of patience with us and executed a design that was simply beautiful. To top it all off, our project was completed on time and within our budget. Prior to hiring them, we obtained 2 other quotes and hands down CCK&B's pricing was the least expensive. We weren't necessarily looking for the least expensive contractor, but rather a contractor who was reputable, reliable, and reasonably priced. We got that and more with Mancel's team. We will definitely be hiring them again for our future bathroom project. Highly recommend!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
