Kuma came out to do a treatment for bed bugs. They were through and professional. Granted they had to return to do another application, but they were ultimately successful getting rid of the bugs!

Mr. Darden was professional and on time. He described how to prepare for his visit to treat for bed bugs. He explained all about them and after treatment called to follow up on his treatment. I will say our problem wasn't a huge infestation but these bugs really disrupt your home life and SLEEP. I am confident AC pest control can solve your problem too!

We hired David to do a quarterly pest control service. I did a price comparison with other companies and feel like we got a good deal. He comes out once a quarter to treat for any kind of bugs and pests and if there are any issues in between he'll come out for free. So far we haven't seen any roaches that usually come out at night. Nothing we tried on our own worked before, and I just hate having to deal with them. He also took care of ground bees that took residence in our front yard although that is usually treated by yard maintenance crews. We just recently moved into this house and were looking to take preventative measures against termites. We knew how much our neighbors were paying, and David actually quoted us less. So again--a great deal and a great job. Highly recommend him for how thorough and fair he is. He goes out of his way to help his customers out.

If you're like me, and you prefer to trust someone who comes into your home regularly, Dennis is your guy. I recently contracted with him and have yet to see a bug in my home! This is incredible because I live in Atlanta-Midtown. He seemed to have my best interests in mind, did not try to upsell me, and even gave me tips how to treat other areas of my house such as fruit flies. Excellent impression.

Ray was extremely responsive and got me scheduled right away! He chose to do a targeted approach inside the home in the areas where we had seen pests and he spent about a half hour or so outside treating the perimeter of the home. He was extremely thorough and offered to come back out if we saw any pests between regular quarterly treatments. I would definitely recommend him for your pest control needs!

John was our bug man for several years. He accommodated our request for organic pesticide, and to my surprise, it worked. John was always timely, efficient and professional. The only reason he doesn't come here now is that he was moved to your area, you better grab him before he gets too busy. We live in deep woods and he was able to keep them out of my house without nuking my family or the beneficial bugs that eat other bugs outside my house.

I use Green Queen for quarterly bug spray and mosquito control. Love them!! They are always on time and professional. We can actually enjoy our yard this year (no mosquitoes at all). I feel great using them since I have small children and do not want to expose them to toxic chemicals. Highly recommend!

I only have great things to say about Pyramid. Ever since they have been treating my house I haven’t had any bug problems. In the past, I used a larger chain for my quarterly pest control and always had ants or roaches running around which drove me nuts. I called Pyramid one morning and they were at my house that afternoon. I signed up for their yearly service and am now officially "bug free”. What I really love is that I get better service and quality product in fewer visits.

I utilize Frazier Pest Management for my monthly pest control service. I first worked with Christopher when I first moved into my home. Our house sat and we had an issue with the large water bugs. I contacted Frazier Pest Management and they came out and cured the issue. I did not hire them at that time and then had to call them out for an issue we had with ants. They cured that issue as well. I then decided to go with their monthly treatment plan and I have not had any issues since. This company is very curteous and flexible when working with my schedule to come out to treat my home. I am thankful I founc a trustworthy company. The exceedrd my expectations and my experience with this Company is so much better than my past experiences with other pest control companies. Thank you so much for your awesome service.

I recently used Pure Defense Pest Solutions in Atlanta Georgia and would like for everyone out there to know that we have NEVER encountered such professional, friendly . in depth care and treatment of our problem. They are the only company we know of that guarantee Bed Bug Solutions. We recently used a well known moving company to transport some goods to the just one room in a three storey house. We noticed a strange bug and because I am OCD I called them to come and look at it straight away after seeing two bugs. They confirmed it was a new infestation of Bed Bugs just confined to the one room, thank goodness! Had it spread throughout a three storey large home the problem would have been horrendous. I, personally, have never dealt with such professional and kind treatment from a pest Control Company and I have used other well known companies in the past. In future I will only deal with Pure Defense Pest Solutions. They listened to all my questions, many of them I fired at them endlessly. They answered every question with patience and great reassuring knowledge. They went the extra mile to accommodate us, regarding times and service. They deserve to be become the top Pest Solution Company in the whole of the United States. For my own personal reason, being embarrassment, as I felt "dirty" which they reassured me I was not, I am signing my name as Christina, Marietta, GA, but you are welcome to call the company and ask them for my personal cell phone number which I will permit them give to an enquirer who would like to know more from me personally. Obviously I am going to discuss claiming damages and costs from the moving company I used. Thank you so much for all you have done, and for containing the problem Pure Defense Pest Solutions Team. Thank you Kyle and Tim. - Christina, Marietta GA

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you get bed bugs and how do you get rid of them?

The increase in bed bug infestations in the U.S. is a result of increased travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices, explains the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s easy to mistake bed bugs for carpet beetles or similar-looking bugs, so infestations are often not noticed when they first occur. Prevention tips include keeping areas free of clutter, regularly washing sheets and mattress covers in hot water (and don’t forget to wash the laundry bag, too), and vacuuming regularly and safely disposing of the sealed vacuum bag. Not everyone has reactions to bed bug bites, which also may be mistaken for the bites of other pests such as mosquitoes, so timely bed bug extermination depends on identification of bed bug activity. If you notice physical signs of an infestation, contact a bed bug extermination professional as soon as possible to learn about chemical and non-chemical (such as heat) treatment options. An integrated pest management plan may incorporate one or more methods.

How much does it cost to kill bed bugs?

The cost of bed bug extermination depends primarily on how widespread the pest infestation is and how many rooms need to be treated. Other factors that can affect bed bug extermination costs are the amount of clutter in the location, additional furniture that needs to be treated, and construction of the home. Pest management professionals often have rates for room treatments, which can vary based on these factors. As an example, a pest management company treating a 10-by-15-foot room with light infestation might charge clients about $250, while the same size room with a heavy infestation and large amounts of clutter might cost the clients $300-$400. Clutter and heavier bed bug populations mean more product and longer labor time for the workers. Rates will vary from company to company, and from region to region, but the national average bed bug extermination cost is $320-$400. Bed bug heat treatments are an alternative way to exterminate these pests. Heat treatments are typically charged per square foot and tend to cost more than chemical or non-chemical spray solutions. Although effective, they are not usually recommended for occupied spaces, as the extreme temperatures can damage televisions, window dressings and other home furnishings.

How long does a bed bug treatment last?

Bed bug extermination can last forever as long as the treatment killed all the bed bugs (and their eggs) and if new bed bugs are not transported into the location. Factors that can affect the outcome are how severe the infestation is and whether all bed bug sources were properly identified and treated. When working with a pest control professional, the EPA recommends you check and call references; ask if they offer both chemical and non-chemical treatment options, if they recommend both encasements and interceptors, and if they offer two or more service visits and follow-up. Bed bugs are tiny (adults are roughly the size of an apple seed) and can hide anywhere a credit card can slide into. They squeeze into cracks in walls, behind electrical outlet sockets, in bedding, and in other dark places. Learn how to prepare your home for a bed bug treatment for the best outcomes. Michigan State University shares some examples of possible reasons that a bed bug extermination is not 100 percent effective:

      • Not all sources (aka hiding places) of the bed bugs were identified during initial inspection.
      • Not all sources of bed bugs were treated.
      • The insecticides used were not effective or, in the case of heat treatment, there was insufficient contact time.
      • Infested items such as bedding or other materials were reintroduced into a cleaned area.

How do you check for bed bugs?

If you are concerned you have a bed bug infestation, look for physical signs of their presence. Bed bugs love to hide in small, dark spaces and typically come out to feed (generally on human blood) after dark — although they will come out in daylight if hungry enough. The Environmental Protection Agency states that indications of an infestation can include seeing shed exoskeletons of bed bugs, rusty spots on your bedding (which are either bug droppings or bloodstains), live bed bugs, bed bug egg casings, a sweet and musty odor (if the infestation is severe), and evidence of bites on your skin.

To spot bed bugs, look in and along mattress seams and bedding, in curtain and furniture folds, inside cracks or crevices in the walls, behind picture frames and mirrors, under loose wallpaper seams, on recently used luggage or backpacks, inside electronics, and inside clothing or cluttered areas such as closets. If you see signs of bed bugs, be careful not to disturb them too much as you don’t want them scattering to other parts of your house.

How do you get and get rid of bed bugs?

Bed bugs can travel into your home via luggage, secondhand furniture or clothing, and other items that have been exposed to the little pests. Bed bugs are tiny and flat (about the size of an apple seed and the height of a credit card), so they can easily hide in dark, small places and hitchhike into your home. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, most people don’t even know they’re transporting bed bugs as they travel from location to location, infecting areas as they travel. The sooner you notice a bed bug infestation in your home, the easier it is to get rid of it. The EPA suggests an integrated pest management plan to get rid of bed bug problems. This means a multi-pronged approach that takes the bug’s life cycle into account, uses chemical treatment where needed, and takes all necessary measures (use of encasements, high heat washing and drying of bedding, etc.) to stop current and future life cycles. Unless you feel confident about controlling a bed bug infestation, it can be wise to hire a pest management professional to prevent the problem from getting bigger.
