Jontel was always on time and did a really good job installing our dishwasher and garbage disposal. After the installation our Dishwasher got lossed from the braces that are attached to the countertop. We called Jontel about this and within an hour he arrived and fixed this for us. I Highly recommend him.

Chris did an excellent job diagnosing my furnace issue. He ran several tests to find out my furnace ignitor had gone out. He ran to get a part and installed it quickly. I was back up and running in no time. I especially appreciate him responding so quickly and getting the job done given that it is freezing right now.

Brian did a fantastic job. He kept in touch with me promptly throughout the entire process. My 19-year old furnace went out and I was looking for someone to fix it but after researching the avg. 20 year life of a furnace we decided to replace it instead. Brian helped us find an affordable new unit and was timely in installing it. Great value and great service. I would highly recommend him. Next time I have HVAC needs, I will definitely be using his service.

Angelo is a top notch professional. I had an older heating and ac unit that was not cutting off after getting my ducts cleaned. Other guys came out and told me I needed to replace it. Angelo took the time to inspected the furnace and found that the board was not working and limit switch needed to be replaced. He also installed a vent for my new kitchen. If you have heating and ac needs Angelo will provide you honest and reliable service.

I hired Fix It Fast,LLC (FIF) on a door installation. I worked directly with one of the owners, Mr. Chris. Smith. IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE! Things Gone Right: > Very Knowledgeable and Professional > Truly Fast Service > High Quality Repair > Very Responsive/Great Communication > Affordable/Budget Friendly > Honest > Integrity Above and Beyond: >Superior Customer Service --willing to work last minute near a holiday --handled all aspects of the repair including acquiring material (Note: other contractors required I get everything) --willingness/ability to listen to the customer needs/wants and provide cost-effective solutions --offered great suggestions/tips to ensure the best repair possible -- passion to achieve highest quality work possible and total customer satisfaction --willingness to correct any errors/address any issues >Ease to work with and good interpersonal skills >Willing to educate the client on all available options and allow the client to make the decision >Helped to return material to store that had nothing to do with his repair Suggested Areas of Improvement: > Prospect work in advance to ensure even smoother process >More payment methods and without the additional fees Summary: Overall GREAT EXPERIENCE with Mr. Chris Smith/FIF. He's especially suited for working with female homeowners who are always concerned with feeling safe around contractors and then being ripped off. Definitely was NOT my concern or experience with Mr. Smith. He was VERY RESPECTFUL and genuinely concerned about my safety. He ensured the door repair/install provided me with the maximum security possible. He also declined a prospective job as he couldn't provide the most cost-effective repair and then provided suggestions on who I should contact to ensure that could occur. How many contractors do you know will do that? Great Job Mr. Chris Smith and another high-quality experience using a Thumbtack "Pro". I will indeed use both services again and have already started referring others. Thanks much and Much Success! MRW

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. How much does it cost to have your furnace serviced?

When your furnace isn’t regularly serviced it can operate less efficiently. This increases your energy bills and also prevents your furnace from keeping your home as warm as you like. Keep your furnace properly maintained with regular service. The national average furnace service cost is between $60 and $80. Companies may offer tuneup specials that cover all the necessary testing, tightening, measuring and cleaning to keep your equipment running at top efficiency. If you have a newer system, furnace service costs may be covered by your warranty. Outside of warranty, a basic tuneup might start at $58 and a more advanced maintenance cleaning could be over $120. Here are some signs your furnace may need service:

    • The furnace has stopped functioning entirely.
    • The temperature cannot be regulated.
    • Rooms in the home are either too hot or too cold.
    • The heated air coming from the furnace smells like gas.
    • The thermostat isn’t working.
    • Strange noises are coming from the furnace.

How much will it cost me to replace my air conditioner?

If your AC system is in need of replacement, the national average air conditioner installation costs range from $2,930 to $3,670. Costs can vary greatly depending on whether you are replacing a wall or window unit or a central air system. A central air system is connected to ductwork that runs throughout your house and pumps cooled air into your various rooms via vents and registers. A central air conditioning system is far more costly than wall or window units. Selecting a central AC system that has a high seasonal energy-efficiency ratio (SEER) will likely lower both your carbon footprint and your utility bill. The type of AC system you select, where you live in the country, and the regional costs of HVAC work, duct removal and replacement, and ductwork repairs that are needed are some of the main factors that affect the cost of new air conditioner installation. Here are some examples of average costs for installing forced-air systems.

    • Install Lennox 16 SEER single-stage AC unit: $5,743
      • Removing and disposing of the old furnace, moving and reconnecting the water heater, and installing a 3.5-ton gas furnace. The job took 18 hours of labor.
    • Installation of a new 14 SEER single-range cooling system: $4,000-$6,000
    • Installation of a new 16 SEER two-range cooling system: $6,000-$8,000
    • Installation of a new 20 SEER variable capacity cooling system: $8,000-$12,000

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

How much does it cost to have your furnace cleaned?

To keep your furnace in good working order it’s important to have it regularly cleaned. The national average furnace cleaning cost ranges from $60 to $80, though prices can vary greatly based on where you live in the country and what your furnace maintenance includes. An HVAC company may have different rates for different levels of furnace maintenance. For example, one company may offer general furnace maintenance for $79 and advanced maintenance for $138. Another company may offer a 38-point maintenance check for $89 and a 64-point maintenance check for $178. According to Energy.gov, a standard furnace cleaning and maintenance visit can include:

    • Checking the vent connection pipe and chimney
    • Checking the physical integrity of the heat exchanger
    • Adjusting the controls to provide optimum air temperatures
    • Checking the combustion chamber for cracks
    • Testing for carbon monoxide (CO)
    • Adjusting the blower control and supply-air temperature
    • Cleaning and oiling the blower
    • Removing soot and corrosion from the furnace
    • Checking the fuel input and flame characteristics
    • Sealing the connections between the furnace and the main ducts
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
