Introduction: We have been offering counseling with a heart since 1988. We are specializing in life coaching, communication skills, relationship training, and parenting support for individuals and couples, in a casual relaxed environment. With over 25 years of experience, I know that by the time someone picks up a phone to call a counselor, the problems are usually serious and complex. In other words, there is a lot of discomfort and a lot to cover. Rather than take 6 weeks to cover the basics and get to work, in the traditional 50-minute "hour" once a week, by which time most relationships have deteriorated even further, if not totally collapsed, I offer open-ended initial appointments. I have found that this saves you money in the long run, and very often your relationship as well. There is a lot of background information that needs to change hands before we can really get to work. In short, once-a-week sessions, it is not possible to cover more than the tip of the iceberg, and by the following week, the iceberg has grown even larger. I find that by having open-ended, concentrated initial sessions, we can "get busy" and start resolving the issues that are causing difficulties very quickly. Not everyone needs these intensive sessions, but they are a great relief to those that do, and often lead to quick results.
