I had Carlos remove and install a OTR microwave; and hang a ceiling fan. He was punctual, pleasant, prepared to go up and down 3 flights of stairs for picking up the material and willing to drill holes for a window planter on brick siding. Highly recommend him.

I hired Felipe to fix my ceiling due to a pipe leak and tile/crow mold my half bath. The ceiling leak was pretty fixed...truth e told I don't think it was completely dried and that is why I am still seeing lighter stains. As for the half bath, the crown molding looks amazing. The floor looks pretty great, too. In the future, I would definitely hire Felipe again, but would verify that he has a wet saw for stone tile...faster install.

After lots of research for TV installers, I chose Telly Wall Install for these reasons: 1. The customer reviews. 2. The pictures on the website. 3. The price. 4. Flexible appointment. Lead Installer, Troy, was very professional and knowledgeable. He took his time and was very meticulous to make sure that everything was in place (he also cleaned up the debris afterwards). Troy offered skilled suggestions, as I was uncertain of the dynamics of the install and a little leery of the structure of the stone fireplace where the 60“ TV was being installed. The end results were beautiful and just what I wanted…with no wires showing. I would definitely insist that if you are looking for a quality, professional service, from a company that cares, please contact Telly Wall Install.

The brick facing that suppported the posts on our front porch had been failing for a number of years and we finally reached the point that we felt it could no longer be ignored. I did a Google search for brick masons in the Marietta area and found a listing for thumbtack.com I filled in the short questionnaire on the site an recieved three responses. I ended up meeting with two of the three. Steve impressed me with the manner he quoted the project, his explanation of the work that would be done, and with his follow through. The stellar reviews on thumbtack were also an important factor. The overall project took almost two days, and we did discover more damage than was initially expected or that could have been anticpated. Again we were given options and selected the one that best met our needs. We are quite pleased not only with the workmanship, but the way the timeline was met and the way the two men who did the work replaced everything that they had to disturb. We certainly recommend that you give Steve and his company a chance to earn your business.

Artistic Design Roofing, I had a good experience with this roofing company. They roofed my house and did a great job. I had them back this week to sheath and roof a backyard patio with the same roofing material so it matched my house. They sent two roofers for the two day job. The workers at Artistic Design Roofing in Stone Mountain GA were very professional and courteous. They clearly wanted to ensure I was happy with their work and explained things while they worked. I would recommend this company and would hire them again. My in laws had similar positive experiences with this company as well.

We used 360 for the installation of wood floors in our bedrooms. Dwayn from 360 was really exceptional. He scheduled the initial consult at my house within a few days of my initial call. He prepared the estimate for us immediately and sent an email version it out before he left that day. He was flexible with the install as we were having other work that was being completed. When his team arrived for the install and they noted a problem with the wood we had ordered. The 360 team was really flexible and we rescheduled for them to come back a week later. The thing that I would note that was the best about this experience as how responsive and accessible Dwayn was throughout the process. I called on weekends, middle of the day, and anytime I called he always picked up and worked with me to make sure the project was a success. Very good experience and reasonable prices for the work.

Wade is a young, entrepreneurial guy who will go out of his way to satisfy his customers. We had thin bricks installed on our foyer wall (making it an Accent Wall) and Wade quoted me a reasonable price. He patiently listened to us and our feedback and accordingly made changes to the installation process. He never once lost his cool while listening to a million things that we were throwing at him. At the end, he delivered a quality work product. I'd highly recommend him for future masonry jobs!

Cliff gave us an honest and fair price quote to clean the grout and polish our marble foyer and powder room floor. We waited a while until he was available to do the job and he was definitely worth waiting for. He was meticulous in prepping the entire area including taping off the walls as not to get them dirty and cleaned up. The grout, which we thought we might have to have replaced, came out amazingly clean. The polishing of the marble tile floor came out great as well. I just want to warn anyone who may have granite inserts like we do... don't expect the granite to keep the same shine as before. It is impossible to polish the marble tile without affecting the granite. I knew that upfront so was not surprised. I recommend Cliff highly to anyone looking to polish their worn down marble floor. He is a great communicator, experienced in his field, courteous and kind.

I called Jake and set up a time to meet at my house and he was polite and worked with my schedule. Jake showed me work he had done previously with stone tiles. He explained to me different features he could add to enhance the look as we talked about the way I wanted my bathroom to be. He provided suggestions on different patterns that would fit that look and minimize wasted tile pieces. After he reviewed the shower, I received the bid for installing large travertine stones tiles into a bathtub surround with a window and I was satisfied with the bid amount. I already had the tiles but he provided a price estimate on additional material needed. Before work began, we worked out a schedule where he was able to work at the house while I was not there. He provided proof of insurance for work and I felt comfortable enough to have him arrive and leave when needed. Jake completed the work in five days involving laying tile in a brick pattern, creating a niche with a self, adding accent tile around the walls, creating bullnose trim around the edges and tiling the window sill. The end result was great! I loved the pattern and trim work. Jake went beyond by adding an accent to my niche self and suggesting ways to enhance the look mid-work that made everything look great. If I had to give Colorado Tie something to improve on, it would be better organization of receipts for my records.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
