I decided I wanted to learn how to play guitar at the age of 54, and I knew I needed an experienced teacher. I heard Ryan play at a club in Roswell and he was fantastic. Then I submitted my request on thumbtack, and he was the first guitar teacher to contact me. I've been taking weekly lessons from him since August 2013 and I am very pleased with how it is going. I went from knowing nothing about the guitar to being able to play over 20 chords and two songs since we started. Ryan is an excellent teacher and has also become a friend. He is a great guy and I highly recommend him if you want to take guitar lessons.

I have been taking lessons from Ryan for about 10 months now and each week I see myself growing and sharpening my skill. I took guitar lessons when I was a teenager, but I wanted to get back at it and take my talents to the next level. We restarted my training and went from the building blocks of scales to the formation of modes. Now I am almost to a point where I can play any scale and mode horizontally and vertically up the neck of the guitar. He's a brilliant instructor who finds the best method of teaching for each student. Looking forward to taking more lessons with him. Ryan is a great teacher! He has been working with me for about 6 months now. He will help you learn whatever interests you on guitar. We've talked about theory, fretboard, chords, etc. He will tab out songs and listen to them with you to figure it out. Really great guy!

Ryan is truly the Sherpa that guides you on the journey of inspired learning and appreciation for the guitar, no matter what your starting point. Yes, he most definitely has been to the summit himself as demonstrated by a mastery of many genres, styles, techniques, and a natural improvisation voice, not to mention his gigs and the musician company he keeps. Regardless, he knows the path and is personally and genuinely invested in helping you get where you want to go. I began lessons with him in the summer of 2013 to learn Jazz and musical theory for improvisation. Ryan has demystified the modes and helped me feel comfortable with the notes and patterns up and down the neck. He has a knack for laying out a logical step-wise approach for building a foundation that makes successive concepts more understandable. Lessons are very relaxed and often include an exchange of ideas that run from guitar care, to latest rock or jazz artists, to dumb questions you were always embarrassed to ask about music theory, to how do you see the patterns on the neck, to asking his suggestions on how to improve on an original song, to a variety of ways to practice or think about lesson material, to..well you get it. Ryan has a depth of knowledge on so many aspects of playing music. He also has an uncanny ability to know where you are in the learning process and laser-like vision and ears as you play. Most often he understands your challenged moments intuitively and can offer a fix on the spot, or a practice suggestion, or a supplemental concept that puts things into perspective. Finally, I admire Ryan for his natural ability to balance the rigors of technique with inspired musical ideas. In short, you will discover that Ryan is the real deal, both personally and as your Sherpa instructor!

Lessons are paid a month at a time.

A student will come in and meet with their teacher, possibly play something for them, if they've already been playing and then the teacher will talk to them about the best way to move forward with their lessons.

All of our instructors have either received a degree in music or have been teaching, performing and recording for many years/decades.
