If I could describe my coaching experience with Samantha Calonita Coaching in two words it would be life changing! I just finished up my fourth one-on-one coaching session with Samantha and I can not wait to continue! The experience has been so amazing and has changed me as an individual in so many positive ways. Before starting my coaching sessions with Samantha I felt like I had lost control of my life. I was aiming to please everyone else and had forgotten to take care of myself. I was so concerned about letting people down and how they would perceive me if I said no to something or even asked for help. I had stopped doing things for "me" and was just concerned about everyone else and it was not a good place to be in. However, with the help of Samantha, that is not the case anymore. Through my sessions, Samantha helped me learn how to identify my inner critic and how to deal with it using specific tools and even provided her own personal examples which made me feel extremely comfortable knowing she's been there she gets it! She also helped me learn how to overcome my fear of taking risks and changing the way I viewed risks and helped me look at risks in a positive light rather than the negative light I had always viewed them in. Samantha makes you feel very comfortable in situations that can be difficult. There are independent assignments between sessions that ask some really tough questions, but with Samantha's guidance you are able to answer them and really opens up your eyes and changes your outlook in a positive way. Since I have started my coaching sessions with Samantha Calonita Coaching I have regained control of my life. The stress and anxiety and pressure I felt to be perfect and to always please everyone else has disappeared. She has given me so many tools to help deal with difficult situations that I normally just gave into but now can navigate through and make the decision that is best for me and not them. I highly recommend Samantha Calonita Coaching to anyone who is looking to make a positive change in their life with a coach who is inspiring, motivational, and makes you feel comfortable doing something difficult, such as really looking at yourself as an individual and overcoming your obstacles. Thank you Samantha Calonita for changing my life for the better! I can't wait to continue this journey with you!

Rebekah began coaching me several weeks ago and her advice, organization, encouragement, and even her friendship have helped me to overcome a few obstacles I've been struggling with. She has helped me step back and see where I can make some necessary changes to my daily life in order to be more productive with the time I have been blessed with each day. We have a few more sessions together and I look forward to continuing to glean wisdom from her and implement the suggestions she sets before me. She is a GREAT coach!

Delvon is an outstanding trainer and coach. He has worked on Elevate leadership, management/supervisory skills, time management, facilities management, and other soft skills trainings. Our clients love him because he gets the lessons across to adult learners in a way that makes the techniques easy to learn. What he teaches is useful immediately. Delvon calls it edutainment. And I agree. He is extremely successful training and coaching adult learners. I would recommend Delvon to any company or individual needing to learn and RETAIN new skills and techniques to do their job better.

It’s impossible for me to overstate how valuable Lucinda’s advice and insights have been in my life. Through my 20s, 30s, and now deep into my 40s - she’s helped me navigate relationships , career and family with both objectivity and compassion. I’ll forever be grateful for her help in keeping my natural melancholy at bay and allowing me to enjoy both peace and contentment.

Kerilyn - what an amazing, well grounded woman! She virtually held my hand for well over a year as my life coach during one of the most confusing times of my life. Important decisions had to be made affecting me and my family and she helped me navigate the choices before me with well trained skill. She is empathetic, witty, wise, and real. Kerilyn intuitively knows when to help push you forward, when to hold still and listen - and boy, does she not only listen but truly hears every part of you - even to what you are not consciously saying. Kerilyn truly has a gift for what she does. She uses her strengths to help you find your gifts and use them, get "unstuck", live out your life on your own terms - and helps you discover what that means for you. At least she did all this for me, and for that, I will be forever grateful.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a career coach?

If you’re interested in furthering your career and want expert help, a career coach is a smart solution. A career coach is a professional you hire to guide you during a job search or a career transition, or to help you improve and advance in your current position. A career coach analyzes your work situation and learns what your professional goals are. They then create a strategy to help you achieve your targets. Throughout the process they should provide objective feedback and guide you in approaching the process strategically. Here are some of the tools and tasks a career coach may assist you with:

  • Helping you build a strong resume that reflects your work history, potential, and skills
  • Coaching for interviews and strategies for solid answers built around your resume and the target job
  • Defining your career goals
  • Creating a plan for job searching
  • Improving networking strategies and skills
  • Developing strategies for negotiating raises or promotions
  • Assessing why you’re not getting where you want to go
  • Identifying new positions or career opportunities that fit your skills

Why is career counseling important?

Career counseling can help you discover your career path, help you overcome challenges preventing you from finding happiness in your job, or help you learn more about career opportunities that are available to you. Career counselors are typically counselors who specialize in helping guide people into their best career choices. As professionals, they have typically completed a master’s degree in counseling with a focus on career counseling and bring a nuanced understanding of the emotional blocks that prevent someone from doing what they love or getting ahead in their current position. Here are some of the ways that career counseling can help:

  • Identify your skills and talents and how they correlate to different career paths
  • Educate you about the educational requirements for launching in various careers and what earnings can look like
  • Help you understand the kind of environment you want to work in, and which careers are best suited for that
  • See opportunities to transfer your existing skill set to other career areas
  • Help you identify causes of tension or unhappiness in your current career and how to overcome those difficulties
  • Help you create a game plan for moving forward
  • Provide a safe space for you to understand your feelings about career choices you’re making

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

A career coach provides one-on-one sessions to help you reach your career goals or overcome any challenges you’re having in your career path. The cost to have career coaching can vary based on factors such as the number of sessions you purchase at one time and the experience and rates of your counselor. Career counselors are typically professionals who have earned at least a master’s degree in their field. Based on their academic background, supplemental certifications they have received, and any postdoctoral work they have done, their rates may vary. Typically career counselors offer reduced rates when you sign on for their services on an ongoing basis. A typical price range for career counseling services (nationally) could be $75-$150 per session. Remember to always ask if the career counselor offers a complimentary introductory session. You want to make sure the relationship will be the right personality and counseling style fit to help launch your confidence and upcoming career changes.

How much does it cost to hire a career coach?

When it’s time to take your career to the next level, it’s time to hire a career coach. The cost to have a career coach help you with your professional journey will vary based on how many sessions you require, the level of coaching you desire, and the rates of the coach as determined by their experience, expertise, education and training. On average, career coaching sessions can range from 60 to 120 minutes, depending on the professional and what your needs are. Career coaches in smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living will also typically have lower rates than those residing in large metro areas like New York, although most do offer remote coaching. Many coaches also offer a free introductory consultation, which gives you the opportunity to determine if their personality and coaching style are the right fit. It’s helpful to ask the coach about their relevant experience and get references from former clients. Depending on the professional, session rates could range anywhere from under $60 to well over $250 per session. Package discounts are a good way to commit to the relationship as well as get savings on services.

What is a career counselor?

If you’re feeling lost in your career path, overwhelmed, in need of a job but confused as where to start, or ready for change but uncertain what you want, a career counselor is a good choice for you. A career counselor is typically a licensed professional who has earned a master’s degree in counseling — likely with an emphasis on career counseling. Each state has different licensing requirements for career counselors, so be sure to research before reaching out to a pro.

Due to their academic backgrounds, career counselors often have a more holistic and in-depth approach than a career coach. Career coaches are not regulated by states and also tend to be more business-focused — a good fit for those who know what they want but need help achieving it. On the other hand, a career counselor provides guidance and clarity around some of the more emotional aspects that job hunting and career movement entail. Career counselors meet with you in a series of one-on-one sessions. They assess your personality and learn what drives you. They get a detailed understanding of your work history and your hopes, and often work to help you discover any internal blocks preventing you from going where you want to go. Hiring a career counselor is appropriate at any time in your career, from recent graduate to executive-level management.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
