Working with Vald was a pleasure; immediately he was honest and said that he hasn't had much experience with hair salons but confident he could do it. Throughout my experience with Sterling Rose Consulting, I found Vald to be easy to contact, very punctual on replying to via text, email, and or phone. On the other hand patience when I was delayed on time. Upon receiving my final draft I was able to go over and make any changes to "my business plan"that had Vald's own unique twist. Thanks you again, Sterling Rose Consulting Corp!

Cameron provided editing services for me on a number of short professional documents. I have an advanced degree and consider myself quite a good writer, but Cameron's edits were incredibly helpful. He was very thorough, made suggestions on how I could improve my language choice to better convey key messages, flagged grammar mistakes, and edited document structure to improve flow and effectiveness. Cameron was wonderful to work with and I would strongly recommend him.

I recently worked with Ingrid. She helped edit a novel I plan on publishing. When I first reached out to her, I got a quick response. That did not stop throughout the process. If I had questions, she responded quickly. Also, she kept me updated on where she was in the story. The editing was done way ahead of schedule, which leaves me plenty of time to review the notes. I have tried several editors and Ingrid has given me the best experience by far. I highly recommend her for your editing needs.

In addition, Charles took on the responsibility and give me feedback and suggestions how to improve the book. That information is helpful to what I wanted to accomplish. Thank you Charles Gerard for your expertise and knowledge in academics, I look forward to working with you again in the future.

I had the best experience using Holland Reid for my retouching. I was looking for someone with a detailed eye and an understanding for what casting directors, producers and directors were looking for. I got my photos back quickly and communication was a breeze. I recommend her to anyone who is looking for great photos-- she is extremely affordable, especially for the quality of work she delivers.

I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with Pauline over the last few months and she has been a pure inspiration. From the beginning she has exuded positivity and has been extremely easy to work and communicate with. I started a project several years ago and up until meeting Pauline, the progress had stopped. I had gathered a lot of information and done a rough draft but there was no direction. Pauline came along and gave me direction and also reignited my passion for what I set out to do. I am striving to tell the story of my ancestor and now that Pauline has come into my life, she has helped to cohesively piece the puzzle together. She helped to edit my existing story and then she also added additional content. Pauline was timely in providing these edits and she has done an excellent job. I love the way the story has turned out thus far. She is truly a gifted writer and makes it easy to understand the process of drafting, editing and completion. And she pours her heart into the job as if it were her own. I highly recommend Pauline’s creative services.

I fell in love with reading at a very young age which, naturally, led to a fondness for writing. It occurred to me in high school that a person may have great ideas yet not be the best at getting it all down correctly. Luckily, there are people such as myself who are more than happy to step in and help iron out any wrinkles grammar and punctuation may create.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

        • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
        • Strong writing skills.
        • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
        • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
        • Expertise in your target area.
        • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

        • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
        • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
        • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
        • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
