I had a major clog in my shower drain. I called Scott and he gave me an eta. He was at my door promptly when he said and resolved the clog very efficiently. I was so thankful and relieved. I'll definitely use his services again for all my handyman needs.

A real pleasure to work with Jontell. He was on time the same day we requested service. He was knowledgeable in handling some problems that cropped up during installation of our faucets and drain. He price was more than fair. I would definitely use him again. He does electrical, HVAC and carpentry.

From day one Ben was a excellent communicator! He found my issue took pictures and kept me informed every step of the way... My situation involved the county sewer and he even called them to represent me as he learned that the failure was on their side!! .. And he didn't have to.. he could of said nothing and I'd be none the wiser !!! , Ben was a God send... And Im glad I found him !

I'm very satisfied with United States Sewer and Water. The sewage leak into the crawl space under the house was causing a bad odor and flying bugs. Keith came out and gave me an estimate that was really free. Other companies gave "free estimates" also, but charged a service fee for coming out. Keith was very thorough in explaining what needed to be done. His price wasn't the lowest but included installation of a studor vent and correcting the sewage flow design that existed. They did a couple of other things also that added to the value of their service. I highly recommend USSAW.

Hunter and his team did a great job. They cleared our very clogged main drain when everyone else’s solution was to “replace all the cast iron” after they couldn’t clear it. He and his team also installed a clean-out for easier access in the future. They didn’t leave until the job was done and for a very reasonable price. I would hire them again and would recommend.

My property had a main sewer line blockage that was backing up water into my home--Elmer responded quickly to my request and showed up at my property within the hour. Most importantly, he worked to efficiently remove the blockage in my lines (due to tree roots) that occurred a good 70 ft. from my foundation. Elmer was also quick to provide tips on prevention of additional blockages and general sewer line maintenance. I would not hesitate to again contact Elmer for any future plumbing projects. A very nice gentleman.

Kirby Brooks from Honest Care came on time and gave a reasonable estimate for installing a new garbage disposal and unclogging the shower. He did the work in a timely and professional manner. Also, cleaned up and gave advise on how to maintain a clear drain in my shower. I would call Honest Care again for any plumbing issues that might arise in the future.

Southern Sewer & Drain Plumbing did an outstanding job replacing my 18 year old gas water heater. They are honest, only recommend replacing parts that absolutely need it. No fast talking. They listen to your concerns and needs and address them specifically. Vincent, owner of the company didn’t hide any information and answered all my questions. Extremely professional, absolutely fair pricing and delivered outstanding workmanship. I have a new plumber. If you need one who is trustworthy and fully licensed and insured, this is who to call.

Although technically the plumbing job was not an emergency (sewerage was not pouring onto the floor), I could not use any toilets or take a shower until the job was done. Others were all saying they could not give me an estimate until they arrived. I have had this clogged toilet issued repeatedly and knew precisely what had to be done. Pipe DreamZ Water and Sewer delayed less urgent customers in order to come to my home at 7:00 pm to clear the line. The price matched the estimate given. Both of us were satisfied. Others who said "You never know what it could be" just irritated me. Further, Pipe Dreamz suggested 3 solutions that would prevent this from recurring. 1 - use CHEAP toilet paper that breaks up quicker and easier in the long pipe that runs horizonally the length of the house. That will SAVE me money. 2. Flush twice - Kind of defeating the purpose of the darned low-flow toilets. 3. If that does not work, since this problem started when I had to replace the original toilets with low-flow toilets, he suggested I upgrade to toilets that flush with more power. That would cost perhaps $800 but would put a end to these clogs. This guy is a true professional (and a really nice person)!

He did an excellent job installing our washer and dryer on the 2nd floor after moving. I bought a steel drain pan for the washer and he had to adjust the drainpipe a bit. He cleaned up after the job was done and waited for the washer and dryer to work properly. While doing this set up our in-sink disposer stopped working, which he also fixed. A screw from construction was lodged in the disposer. We already have another job lined for him!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

    • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
    • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
    • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.

Follow these additional tips for confidently hiring a plumber or other skilled professional.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
