I absolutely loved working with Sara! I had a limited budget to furnish my apartment which she honored. Sara picked out elegant pieces that were within my budget and worked with me to make sure I felt comfortable moving forward. Sara immediately captured my Sara, which made me feel like she was really listening to me :) If you are looking for an interior decorator, don't hesitate to hire Sara.

After looking for many months for someone to come out and design our home with a different look. My husband and I are very busy, We do not have time to do it. I found this wonderful young lady named Keri. I emailed her and received a response the same day. She did our master bedroom and bath, along with our 3 guest bedroom rooms . She was phenomenal. She is great with colors, materials, and ideas. Great ideas i must say.She listened to our ideas and understood our style helped us transform our home into something we thought was impossible. She went out her way to make sure the process was easy and to our budget. If you are in the Atlanta Area keep her in minds.

I am always happy to refer Kevyn Connelly!! I love having her in my home. She is a very talented artist!! She painted my foyer bath with a faux finish and a beautiful bird motif that she did freehand. She's done my entire dining room, and basement bathroom walls. She's refinished furniture and accessories for me including a french mirror. I currently have a list of projects that I am scheduling her to come back and do. She is always very timely. She left my home like she was never there—just more beautiful! I love her! She's become a friend. I can leave her alone in my home with no worries! She made sure I was completely satisfied before payment. You can’t go wrong with hiring Kevyn!

Lauren was just what we were looking for in terms of help selecting paint colors for our home’s interior. Even my husband said “now that was money well spent.” She gave us terrific suggestions and a direction we likely would never have gotten on our own. We can’t wait to start getting the colors on our walls.

Thomas Contractors Saved The Day. I hired another contractor to finish my basement and they did everything all wrong. Thomas Contractors re-did my electrical to Georgia Code Specs, aswell as removed and reinstalled my drywall correctly at half the price I paid the other guys. Thank God I found Thomas Contractors . I highly recommend using them for all your home improvement needs. They saved my basement. Thanks Bryant, you and your guys are the Bomb.

I worked with Bushra from Belegant Homes on a project earlier this year, to remodel my 3 bedroom home. Busha was very professional. Everything she did she explained clearly at the beginning, leaving no room for surprises or confusion, which allowed us to establish trust in our new relationship. She listened attentively to my needs (no matter how picky I was) and in the end she delivered a design package that I was overjoyed with. I really appreciated how transparent the process was. I highly recommend Belegant Homes and will definitely use them again for any future design needs. Malikah Stevens

Illustrious home decor is the best!! Where do I start?! Lashay has been instrumental in helping me decorate my apartment from my bedroom to living room and bathroom. She has an empaccable eye for design, and yet she is also super practical and budget conscious. She’s does an incredible job with combining reasonable basics with eye catching, special pieces. She made my tiny living room feel larger than life and I still don’t understand how she was able to do so! At this point, I would not undertake a design project without her help! If you are reading this, look no further! Illustrious home decor is all you need to make your home a better place!

I have worked as the general contractor on multiple projects with Cassie Farr at MC Designs both professionally and personally. She has been a huge benefit to my customers who have wanted remodeling of the home and business office build outs but had no idea where to being to tell me what they needed or wanted past that. Cassie is always available to help my clients or me for advice or full design concept and implementation. She always finds creative solutions to make my customers happy when surprises come up during remodels and she always communicates with me and my customers which is HUGE for customer satisfaction. I will continue to highly recommend Cassie at MC Designs to my customers or anyone I know needing design help for floor plans, material selection, or advice when it comes to their homes and offices. I look forward to our continued business relationship on our joint full home remodel for a new customer in the next few days.

Mackenzie and his partner did a fantastic job!! They did some trim work and painting inside my house. They actually started the project the same day I posted request to get a quote. Price was MUCH better than any others and the quality was top notch. They actually went above and beyond by fixing a door sill that was not even quoted. Looking at using them for the outside of my house now.

I worked with Candi during my home renovation last year and I was very pleased with her. I had several rooms completed-kitchen, master bathroom, spare bathroom as well as painting the entire house. She worked within my budget to produce a wonderful home for me. I appreciated the excellent coordination she had with all of the areas of the home.

Latoys's unique eye for color combinations allowed her to create awesome decor in both my living and dining space. I wanted to use burnt orange and brick red for my living room and she utilized some light blues and greens as well which highlighted my room. As for my dining room I painted in toasted almond and she paired it nicely with some light blues, creams and black which all turned out amazingly beautiful. She's a natural and I will be utilizing her skills for my new home as well.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
