We got in touch with Keala at the very last minute, days before our wedding. We decided to hire a pro even though we initially just planned to set up a tripod to capture the moment. She was responsive but looking at her work we didn’t want to put high expectations. She showed up on time. She was professional. But we had shown her the one photo that we took with our tripod to show her the one shot we really wanted that would capture the landscape and the moment itself. We brief her on where she needed to stand to capture the photo we wanted. We told her no highly edited pics and ultra saturated photos. She got that part. But didn’t quite capture the moment how we wanted it captured. We wanted the beauty of the landscape to be captured, plus us. There was one picture out of the 60 she took, that we sorta liked. The most disappointing part is the fact that it took her six weeks to send us the photos :(

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m sorry you had a bad experience . Abbie shoot was super last minute. She called me and told me she just needed one shot for their immigration paperwork. The shot was a picture of her soon to be husband and the officiant and her . They agreed on a 15 minute shoot for 180. They wanted the picture right away by email so they could send it to the immigration office. I agreed and sent her the picture to the email provided. Also along with a bunch of other shots from the shoot . I believe the email that was provided was her husband’s email. He wrote back and told me thank you so much for sending the pictures. I added all their pictures from the photo session and sent them right away. I use shoot proof and it lets me know when my clients download the pictures. The pictures were instantly downloaded. In the package that they purchased was only 15 to 20 pictures. I gave them everything I shot that day. 60 + Six weeks later I get a call from Abbie saying she never received the photos. After the phone call she sent me several text angry text. and accuse me that the pictures took six weeks. But in reality she never communicated with her husband and didn’t check spam. On another note: They did tell me that they wanted a shot of the cliffs after the ceremony. By then it was pretty dark and the lighting wasn’t the greatest. I tried my best to get the perfect shot. I also took a bunch with her cell phone. But I guess it wasn’t good enough I spent over an hour and a half with them and they refused to pay for the extra time. To to receive a bad review from them is very sad.

Keala is one of the best photographers that I have ever encountered and overall, an incredible person. She is friendly, helpful, professional, punctual, flexible, and a joy to work with from the very start. I was skeptic at first due to the limited responses of Thumbtack offers on the island, but it was one of the best decisions that I made in planning our engagement/family photo shoot while vacationing in Kona. Keala was absolutely 100% professional through the entire experience. We were looking for a photographer to take pictures of us on our honeymoon in my wedding dress. She was the first to respond and made the process extremely simple and fun! We came to Hilo for a helicopter ride and it was two hours from our location in Kona, so she made it work on the day we were In the area so we wouldn't have to travel 2 hours back again. She brought her son with her as her assistant and he was just the cutest thing. Very sweet and great with direction. I think it's admirable that Keala brought her son and is instilling core values in him like work ethic at such a young age. My husband and I had very little time to take pictures at our wedding and this was our chance to make some more amazing memories to remember through these pictures. We aren't very good at posing and knowing where to go, but Keala suggested the Liliuokalani Park and Garden! It was just INCREDIBLE! She told us where to go, where to stand, how to pose. It all comes so naturally to her and it shows. She gave us such a fair price and amazing quality! She is the one to choose above all others. You won't be disappointed. Keala was fantastic! She answered all of my questions in detail and was always quick to respond. My husband and I needed a someone photographer within 4 days of me putting in my inquiry. Keala was able to make it happen the very same day!!! I put in my inquiry in the morning and by sunset, we were on the beach taking photos. She even went to the store and picked up flowers for me to use during the shoot. My husband and I didn’t know of any locations to take the photos, but Keala was able to recommend the best spots. She was also very helpful with instructing us on where to pose. We had no idea how to pose and would have looked very awkward if it wasn’t for her guidance. She even had photos with examples of poses to help us out! We really ended up having a lot of fun taking our photos together, which was surprising because my husband wasn’t overly excited about it, but he ended up having a great time. Keala was very professional and knowledgeable, but also friendly and fun. You can tell from working with her that she has passion for her job. If anyone is reading this while trying to decide whether or not to hire Keala, HIRE HER!!!! There is no doubt in my mind that you will be satisfied with her work. She is great at what she does and truly a pleasure to work with.

How did you get started doing this type of work?
I came from a family of 10 children( same parents) I was the oldest , which brought on lot of responsibility. I was mom, cook, sister, aunty, driver and photographer. I starter out taking our family portrait every year. I fell in love with photography. I practiced on my brothers and sisters over the years and now I have 4 boys of my own to photograph. I love it.
