ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE MEAL! If you read no more, note that I would hire Ed a million times more to cook for me. My experience: I scheduled a trip to Oahu, my first time to Hawaii, ever! I rented a house in Waialua so that I could be away from the crowds. I wanted to experience the local cuisine but did not want to do the tourist route lua with all the people. I stumbled across Ed's website and was immediately captured by his philanthropic nature...he does a lot for his community and the kids. I contacted Ed and told him I wanted someone to come to the house and cook for my family (just 3 of us) and he was very accommodating. The menu included Traditional Pork Laulau, Ahi Poki, Pulehu Chicken, Kauai Shrimp Scampi, En Papillote (Fresh Fish, baked), Traditional Haupia Squares. Ed cooked another 4-5 dishes that were off the menu and we were absolutely thrilled with the meal and the experience. I requested an interactive meal and Ed was very accommodating to allow us to participate in the preparation of the Laulau (pork rolled in Luau leaves). After that, Ed continued to prepare and cook and conversed with us the whole time as we picked his brain about the his culinary background, the local culture and tips on cooking. Ed was laid back and a very likable guy. I imagine he would have been just as happy preparing the meal while we entertained ourselves elsewhere so I was happy he allowed us to interact with him while he was cooking. He was completely self-sufficient with all his cooking utensils, pans, bakeware and even brought the plates, silverware, serving dishes, cloth napkins and table cloth. He cleaned up everything too. It was a perfect meal.
I am a personal cook and caterer. As a personal cook, I mainly do home-style cooking for my clients with their personal needs in mind. As a caterer, I will sit down or talk over the phone with you to plan the menu for your event and customize it to your preferences. I have catered for office parties, bridal showers and many different holiday gatherings. I have a small clientele that I cook for on a weekly basis and an office group that I cater for monthly. My pricing is reasonable and usually on the lower end. As I work with you, we will plan a menu to stay within your budget.
While visiting Oahu this Spring, we had a small family reunion plus belated birthdays for our two young granddaughters. Chef Jesse Dowling created a wonderful dinner for the occasion and helped make it a memorable evening for all of us. The presentation was lovely and the dinner was delicious. Not only is he a talented chef, he is personable and patiently answered all of our granddaughters' questions about food preparation, cooking, etc. We were delighted with his service and we certainly recommend him to anyone considering a personal chef. I do good food made with lots of love. My specialty is exhibition cooking. I can put out food for one to one hundred. It may be a sit-down service, buffet or even table side.
Chef Pedro planned, shopped, and cooked an excellent meal for our family while we were vacationing in Oahu. The food was fantastic and the family was involved in the meal prep. The kids loved him and he was fun and personable. We definitely recommend him and had a great time with wonderful food. thank you!
Having lived in NYC and traveling extensively all over the world, I know excellent food. This is incredible food. The balance of flavors on your pallet, tender textures of meat, crispy beautiful vegetables and flaky rice is some of the rare treats you will get from Ho'A'o Catering. Whatever your culinary preference be ethnically, you'll sure to be getting the best experience. Less or no meat? No problem. This and that free- no problem. To top it off, for the event planning side, imagine a planner that is on time, anticipates challenges and plans accordingly for them. All a win-win!

Normally you get "Chefs" that need certain ingredients. I try and teach to cook with what you have available. Beats running to the store every five minutes just to get something you forgot. I like to teach basic skills that teenagers or single people or parents can learn. I also like to teach in depth too.
As a recently single professional, I needed a great cook who delivered. One easy meeting and she understood what I was looking for - mostly savory and everything delivered in glass tupperware. She's definitely a great cook - the only way I can say it is you can tell she loves what she's doing and you can kind of taste that in the food. We were lucky enough to book Jason for a whole week while vacationing in Hawaii. It was worth every penny spent. Besides the amazing meals he also provided us with tips for traveling the islands and knowledge of cooking. He really made the wedding vacation worth it and we fully enjoyed spending our time with him. The food was delicious and carefully selected to meet all of our preferences. Cooking for 16 people all day is not an easy task but it is something he handled with ease. He was even able to take us on a kayak tour between meals. Not many chefs would be able to pull that off. We look forward to using him again in the future and we are even considering brining him to the mainland for future events. Thanks Jason.
Rod is very detail-oriented-from how vegetables are cut and safety guidelines too. He is so patient with me-answering all my questions and helping me with the steps in the cooking procedure that were challenging for me. He really empowers his students to take control of their learning and is so encouraging too! He has so much experience as a chef and is very passionate about culinary art too. It is so much fun working with Rod and I look forward to our next cooking class!!
David is probably one of the most talented chef's I have ever had the experience of working with. In my opinion, no one can cook like he does. I had the privilege of working with him at several restaurants in Chicago. He has this innate ability to mix classic with modern, savory with sweet, and even casual with elegance in every plate of food he prepares. There are a lot of talented chefs in the world, but there is something very special about the way David puts flavors together. I use to call him the super taster. He could taste any and every ingredient in a dish and then put his own spin on it. He would create flavor combinations that I would never have guessed would work, especially with wine pairings. As far as being a restauranteur goes, he was always friendly, organized, had a definite unique point-of-view and always ran a tight ship. I highly recommend him for anything: catering, consulting, managing, creating, cooking.
