Introduction: The Schola Saint George in Honolulu offers swordsmanship classes and sparring in the Western martial arts. Based on surviving fighting manuals of the fourteenth century Italian master Fiore dei Liberi, students learn the fundamentals of weapons handling in both modern and historical contexts. Dr. Brian R. Price has been teaching swordsmanship for twenty-five years and has been a competitive armoured combatant since 1981. Honolulu classes are held in Nu'uanu Valley Park on Sundays, 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Come join in the fun!

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I provide coaching and instruction for students of the Western martial arts. Some of these classes are held in Honolulu, while others are seminars I've given in places like Rome, Helsinki, Calgary, Toronto, Atlanta, Boston, Milwaukee, Chicago, Los Angeles, and in other cities across the United States.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

There are many martial arts schools. First, the potential student should check out the class. Is the learning philosophy compatible with how you like to learn? What is the school's objectives? What is the community of students and instructors like in the school? Students study for a wide variety of reasons. Within the Schola Saint George, students first work through our five core levels, internalizing the core principles of the historical treatises while they have fun competing. They then progress onto directed studies of some aspect of the Western martial arts of their choosing, later giving back to the Schola with what they've learned. We're very much a collegial and friendly bunch of combatants who enjoy equally research and competition.
