Overall good job, particularly with bathroom tubs, showers, and toilets. Bathrooms came out very clean. Spots in carpet were not removed as asked and fan dust still remained. Dusting seemed not a priority. Could have been more thorough with window and mirror cleaning as well. Overall would still recommend, but would set expectations up front.

Takai is a great guy. Great communication, very friendly, yet very professional as well. He knows what he is doing because he works for a tree service. I have a shrub that was never trimmed for over 52 years, consequently, it had become as big as a tree. It needed to be trimmed and shaped. Takai drove to my home to look at the shrub/tree and gave me an estimate. It seemed high at first, but I realized he is a professional tree cutter and if I wanted it done right, it was worth the cost. He arrived just before 8:30 on Saturday, asked me a few questions, then began to work. He completed the work at approximately 12:30. He cleaned the area of all the branches and leaves and took them to a dump site. He didn't damage one plant! There are plants all around the bottom of this shrub and not one was damaged! He did a fabulous job of trimming and shaping the shrub I couldn't be happier. If you need your shrubs trimmed, your dead tree branches cut, or need to down a tree, Takai is the person to hire. Stellar job!! Really pleased. A++++

I would like to give my highest recommendation for Andrew Calma. I met Andrew about ten years ago when he was working for Consolidated Painting and they were painting a dementia care facility that I was building. When I needed to have my house painted I contacted the manager of the painting company to see if they could help me. Because they did not do residential projects he referred me to Andrew to do the job as a side project. Since then, Andrew has painted the exterior of my house two times and painted the interior once. He also did quite a bit of extra work to remove a lot of rusty nails and such that have deteriorated over the last 14 years. Andrew is honest, dependable, knowledgeable and hard working. My wife and I have two young girls. I trust Andrew and his crew to be in my house with my family when I'm not home and I trust him to work in my house when nobody is home. I have also found the other painters that assist Andrew to be courteous and professional. I have found Andrews prices to be very reasonable for the quality of work that is provided. I plan to continue to use him as long as he is providing this service. Andrew is a great resource.

SUPER AWESOME WORK! This review is for landscaping services provided by J & B Painting and Drywall. Bronson was quick to reply to me, was always punctual, and definitely provided excellent customer service. He went over the scope of work with me and kept in constant contact with me throughout the process, which I greatly appreciated. The project involved a lot of work, including removal of ivy and a tree that was blocking the gate opener, trimming of several overgrown Bougainvillea bushes, trimming/pruning of nine coconut trees, general grass cutting and edging, and planting grass seed in areas of ivy removal. He provided me a competitive quote and finished the project in a timely manner, including cleanup and follow up to make sure everything was completed to my satisfaction. I definitely recommend him for your future landscaping needs!

My yard couldn't have been in a worser condition than when Rosa's Yard Service came to check it out. We're talking koa trees and ginormous weeds (that look like trees!!), throughout my whole yard!! Everywhere you looked there was more weed than grass!! My yard was in such bad condition that a couple companies (BEFORE Rosa's Yard Service), came to check it out and would not take the job on. :/ After continuing my search for a yard cleaner I found thumbtack, answered a few questions, and was recommended to Rosa's yard service & Home Repair. I contacted them figuring I have nothing to lose. Natisha Rosa responded right away and before I knew it, we were scheduled to meet so they could check out my yard. While showing her around I wasn't too hopeful but after talking with her and explaining my situation, Natisha tells me that she's "up for the challenge". I couldn't believe it! My yard didn't scare her away! I was soo excited! And a couple DAYS later my yard was cleaned out, the weeds were gone, and new plants were put in! If you're looking for yard cleaners who care about making you happy, give their ALL to their work, very reasonable with pricing, and take pride in what they do, then this is the company for you!!! Rosa's Yard Service and Home Repair are the best and if they can tackle my yard and change it from what it was to what it is now, then I know they can do the same for yours. :)

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
